23 senior pros.
So that's the base Hughes starts from. I've included the U-21 squad because it seems that will be part of his remit to get some of them through.
Good luck Sparky!

Our goalkeeping strength is also a source of weakness.
Sorensen will leave, you cannot waste Begovic and Butland in the same matchday squad so the former will leave or the latter will be loaned out again, therefore we will need two keepers before all the other surgery starts.

I think we're in a real state.
I don't buy this 'we only need minor surgery' thing.

I think we will, as you say, let Bego leave and loan Butland out. Shay Given will come in.

Unless you bought eve in as a third choice keeper may be slightly risky but we had Nash last season, then we would only need one keeper

I'd cash in on Begovic while his stock is high, get 12+ for him and bring in Robert green who will sit on the bench all season and let Butland flourish

If Bego stays and Butland is loaned out I think we'll only need one. Bachmann and Eve between them are good for third choice, how many times has Nash played in the past three years? We don't need someone like him there. And if one of Bego or the new gets injured Butland can be recalled because he won't need to be named in the squad. And if Bego goes, I think Tommy will stay.

I can't see him leaving Wilson at LB either.
Possibly RB - or (heaven forbid) a look at him in midfield?

Squad needs a overhaul to say the least, we have alot of aging players who are not worth alot but on massive wages. Would like us to go down a similar route to Villa with younger and hungry players.

Should Hughes persuade Pennant to stay?

With the best will in the world, I can't see Bego staying.
It's all set up for him to go this summer. He's one of the most sought after keepers in the world, and he'll be eyeing Champs League appearances and a doubling of the wages.
And Hughes will be eyeing the £12m fee for his rebuilding.

Should Hughes persuade Pennant to stay? No. Pennant wouldn't need persuading one bit, he'd jump at the chance if anyone was stupid enough to offer him a new contract.

We need 2 CB's for a starters. The games where Huth and Shawcross didn't play we looked all over the place and probably cost us a top 10 finish.

It'd be interesting to see how the purchasing policy works?
When Cartwright shows him his dossier of value-for-money continental players, is Hughes obliged to say 'okay then'.
Or can he say 'Not on your nelly, boyo. I want Bobby Zamora'?
Who resolves any disputes, Papa Scholes who asks them to run along and play nicely?
Presumably if Cartwright has been championing Hughes, it's because they've established some ground rules

Should Hughes persuade Pennant to stay? Think we have nothing to loose and everything to gain by asking Pennant to stay , we need him badly , he has alot to offer a Prem team ,

Makes me laugh that its a matter of us asking him, as if he'd say no!

Ouch when you see the full list it has a distinct lack of quality, we are in need of a overhaul of mammoth proportions.

He may have had his own technical guy in previous roles but Bowen is the head coach in a Hughes team, Hughes firmly a manager. It's that bit of the appointment I just don't get.

The matchday squad is clearly in vital need of rebuilding, I didnt realise the scale of it until the list in the OP was put up.
Fuckin 'ell Pulis!.
First things first, I reckon Hughes will permit the sale of Bego for around £12m hopefully, therefore allowing that money to go on players we desperately need. I dont want Bego to go but its clear it's inevitable.
Maybe use Tommy for half a season and then slowly bring in Butland to replace him?.
