This is my kind of thread! Being a player myself I love watching all kinds of guitar player, from the busker in the street to Yngwie Malmsteen. I love my metal and rock as well, so I love watching the guitarists in my favourite bands, i.e. Kirk Hammett, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Dimebag Darrell [RIP], etc etc. The list goes on... Basically, I love watching anyone who can play a tune!

Wow - Where did you see Hendrix - Isle of Wight? It was the Worcester Odeon. He was supporting either The Walker Bros, or Roy Orbison - can't remember which now.

Dave Swarbrick lives four doors down from me in a row of terraced houses. Yes, I know he is a fiddle player - but I like the feeling

Swarbrick's a legend mate, do you know him well? He's a fiddle player - probably the best ever folk fiddle player. Check him on the Wiki. I know him as well as I know anyone in my street. I used to be a huge fan of Fairport - been to a few of their concerts. Dave always had a fag in his mouth whilst playing the fiddle. As the Wiki will tell you - he actually read his own obituary in the Times. He had a lung transplant years ago.. He is doing fine now. You meet Dave - you meet his little dog Rosie - they are always together (whilst he is at home). I know his wife "to speak to". She is "artist in residence" at Coventry Cathedral.

I am an even bigger fan of Strawbs. Sandy Denny - oh what a tragic loss that was. Fairport, Strawbs and Sandy are all linked. Dave Cousins I have met a few times.

I had to google it. It was doing my head in!! Sandy Denny was booze and drugs. Shame. I loved some of the great female singer / songwriters like Janis Joplin and Judee Sill. Joni Mitchell is fantastic. Haunting.

I know hes not in the same league as some others mentioned on here but I thought Keith Scott who works with Bryan Adams was pretty decent when I saw Bryan Adams at The Brit a few years back.

Ahhh - the famous John Lee. Yes a great album. I have it. Hanged three times.
Don't start me on Janis! What a singer!
Sandy was more depression I suspect. She could never be convinced how good she really was - musically or appearance wise.
Janis was most certainly a drug driven death.
I went to a concert at Colstan Hall (Bristol) to see Fairport - and the crowd shouted out "Where is Sandy?" The reply came back "Getting her hair done".
Just all so sad.

Incredible String Band
Just me that liked them lol?
Oh God there were loads - Tonto's Expanding Head Band. I rather liked Jethro Tull at the time, but it all sounds a bit dated now when you listen again.
Sandy Denny will never date - it sounds as fresh now as it did then. She could have done another forty years of music ..... Who Knows Where The Time Goes?

Bloody hell - I really am shedding tears here ...
The songs are ringing around my head. Ghosts of the past. So much talent lost ...
I never thought that this would happen on a football board.

The last time I saw John Martyn was at Buxton Opera House 3/4 years ago. Tragic, in a wheelchair with his leg in a balloon thing. Bert Jansch was fabulous at the New Vic. Ashley Hutchings' son Blair Dunlop is extremely innovative, he's done some stuff re Warhorse {I think} since I saw him in a tiny room upstairs at the Black Lion in Chedd. Seen Fairport a few times but without Sandy I've always felt a bit let down. 'Matty Groves' rocks. Saw Jacqui McShee at The Swan in Leek, maybe 10 years ago now! {shit, who knows where the time goes?} The BBC Pentangle Live in Concert is ace, love Danny Thompson's double bass masterclass on that. Fiddly electric rock guitar w*nking irks the heck out of me. Would have liked to have seen Manitas Del Plata.

I feel that I have thrown this thread "off target" - or "OT"
We are supposed to be talking about guitarists.
Sorry, and I mean that.
Sandy was a "diamond". No doubts about that at all.
