I feel that I have thrown this thread "off target" - or "OT" We are supposed to be talking about guitarists. Sorry, and I mean that. Sandy was a "diamond". No doubts about that at all. not sure if you're a fan RD but Clive Gregson plays Biddulph Arms on weds 22nd I think.

Past .... Clapton, Page, Rory Gallagher, Kossof.
Present .... Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Clapton, Page. ( has to be said tho Erics last 2 albums have been bloody poor imo!)
Special mention to a young Gary Moore who I saw at the Torch rock night who was just beginning to show the potential that would bloom into the prodigous talent in later years!
Also respect Ronnie Wood and Mick Ronson ( not quite greats, but bloody good! )

I would like to mention Wilko Johnson Of Dr Feelgood. (not long for this world) A truly unique guitarist.
Also in the same genre Mick Green of the Pirates. RIP. He made it all seem so effortless and still got the rhythm racing.

Best guitarist I have seen live is Gordon Giltrap. Has been held up among his peers ( Clapton, Gilmore, Harrison to name a few ) as the greatest technical guitarist around. Lucky enough to have seen him at a couple of rural events over the last ten years. If you like the guitar then you need to see this guy play live. Incredible.

The only guitarist I have seen that can play the bass, rhythm, lead and vocal melody on one guitar and it sounds like a whole band playing. His ' prog ' stuff wouldn't be to eveyone's taste but his shows are great fun.
