Rafa wants trophies on his C.V. He won't think he can get them at Stoke. Ok so you know what TP thinks and now you know what Benitez wants? You are one special person. Very Special in fact H

If the article is accurate I see no reason why we would not be the perfect project for him. When he was out of work he was here on a number of occasions. We need to get rid if this "little old Stoke" mentality tha TP has brought to us and get back to the fact that we are a founder club with a long history, we beling in the top flight, well run, well supported and well financed. If Rafa is looking for a rebuild project we are a perfect fit.
We need him and he needs us, we ciuld get back to being a respected club.

sandbanks, Thought you wanted Sven. I do but it seems unlikely as there are no rumours whereas Rafa seems a remote possibility and I would be happy with it.

We need to move now. He'd be great for the club and a far more important signing than any player.

I'm also certain that if Sven was appointed it would have a very positive reaction amongst supporters, he also likes "projects".

I don't think Rafa Benitez is out of our reach. He is definitely a AAA target but unobtainable for a club like ours?
PROS: - Has connections at the club (directors, staff, players) - Extremely similar tactical beliefs to Tony Pulis/Peter Coates (just obviously a lot more effective) - Massive influence on junior coaching and youth recruitment (everyone knows our intentions for the academy) - Has already been living in and around 'north west' - Stoke is virtually there and extremely easy to commute to. - Has a huge number of upcoming talent to pick & choose from for regular football (most of Liverpool youth and reserve are Rafa players + been involved with Chelsea who have a sickening amount of kids on their books) - Looking for a club that wants to progress. Looking for a club that can progress. Looking for a club that can ultimately bankroll success (whether through cash or facilities)
CONS: - Is a widely respected manager and may feel that he can sink his teeth into a competitive club abroad that plays in Europe - May feel Stoke City is just a step below what he is - Could feel uneasy about any 'long-term' relationship with the current Chairman (our chairman is old to be honest) - Would be in a position, say 12-18 months down the line, where say a 'big club' comes and takes him from us. - Unable to relate to fans and much like TP doesn't give a hoot what you think (see Chelsea)
There are more on each side but in general it's a lot harder to come up with good CONS than good PROS and turning the whole 'is he too big for Stoke?' argument on its head, I would say we are very much in a position to take Rafa as boss.

Not really sure why the excitement over the possibility of Rafa?
I'm not sure if I would want him.
Did ok at Liverpool but wasted a lot of money and the team was in decline towards the end of his reign.
Failed miserably at Inter.
Has done incredibly well to stay dignified at Chelsea under all the fan pressure, although he hasn't really done anything that any other manager couldn't have done with the same group of players.
I just can't see him as manager of our club in all honesty

Thousands of Stoke fans deny their expectation levels have gone too high, yet many believe Rafa Benitez is a genuine candidate for the Stoke job.
David Moyes will have a huge task in following Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, the eventual successor to Tony Pulis will find it a massive task too.
I would be amazed if the really top managers would be interested in any future Stoke vacancy.
Time for a dose of reality guys.

Find myself agreeing with Geoff for the first time ever. Whoever follows TP will indeed have a massive task ... in getting us back playing decent football and at least attempting to win games.

Which is true mind considering all that he's done for the club over the last 10 years. That's not to say that he shouldn't go, rather that he needs to be replaced by someone younger and fresher, and I'm not sure that Rafa fits the bill

I recently told some people down south that Stoke supporters are seriously discussing how Benitez would want to be Stoke's manager. There was much laughter and merriment at Stoke's expense at this point...the idea entertained them enormously (although not as much as QPR being relegated). Fuck me we're coming over like the most stupid arrogant twats in the Premiership these days. Pride comes before a fall (ask any Geordie).

With the squad they have? I wouldn't say gaining a top four place for Chelsea is something that any other manager couldn't have done to be honest It can still go wrong, nothing's certain in football. Chelsea have made managerial mistakes before with managers who had a team to die for yet didn't perform.

Before we signed Crouch, you'd have said yeah right a player with Crouch's pedigree will come to little old Stoke from Spurs. Same goes with Owen, bet he wishes he didn't now though. Before we got to the Prem, you'd have said, yeah right little old Stoke in the Prem. If Rafa wants time to build a team his way, then we are ideal, he'll have no pressure to win trophies, after the football if you can call it that, he's only got to sign a contract to get fans excited again. We are now heading into our 6th season, a lot of our squad it seems will be moving on, now is the time for a fresh approach. It's more of an appeal than you think.

But with the players at his disposal, and considering that they weren't doing too bad under Di Matteo, I wouldn't say that what Rafa has done with Chelsea is a major accomplishment. It's more of a Pass, than a Merit or Distinction

You need to understand what the expectation is Geoff, it is not to become champions league contenders or a top 6 club, but to play a decent brand of football with specialist players in specialist positions and play. Footbal isn't only about where you stand in the league, it's about entertainment & watching your team attack the opposistion with intent. Supporters just want quality football played by quality footballers, football is an entertainments business, people want to be entertained wether we finish 16th or 6th. SCFC have shown great ambition so far with the money they have ploughed into the club it's a pitty the manager doesn't share that same positive ambition and be positive, afterall he has spent £100Million to achieve the confidence to be positive and has been afforded the tools to produce a decent brand of football aswell as stay up, don't you think?

Can't agree with this. I think we possess some good footballers, it's the mid week coaching/training, tactics & managers mentality that is our biggest hindrance. We are all about positioning and set plays and little else, that is because of training/coaching.
