Firstly I'm not advocating that Stoke have been unlucky all season, and that we haven't deserved to be down here. But let's look at a few recent games
Everton - Disallowed goal wrongly ruled offside Villa - 2 penalty decisions missed United - Arguably another penalty decision missed
It's possible that we could have had those 4 points we desire already.
So honestly, regardless of performance, have we been a little unlucky?

West Brom game? Defo didn't deserve to win that.
Villa were unlucky not to be 3 up at half time.
It works both ways.

To be fair we were incredibly lucky against Villa. We should have been 4 down by half time. The Jones shout was never a penalty and the goal was rightly disallowed at Everton.

Everton - Goal was correctly disallowed. Poor finishing and poor defending cost us the match. Aston Villa - 2nd minute penalty (if scored) could've led to a different type of match. Villa had more chances and could've dented our GD even further. Man Utd - Very Poor defending cost us (again).
In summary - we have been conceding soft goals at vital moments, and creating very few chances and have no clinical finisher in the staring 11.
So no - I don't believe we have been unlucky

Been lucky not to have more players banned. Huth did stamp on Suarez. NZonzi has probably escaped a few times.
I don't think we've been particularly unlucky this season, our second season in the PL we did have some genuine bad luck, I remember we had that really bad spell before Christmas.

Every team can point to a few decisions, but this 'luck' narrative that Pulis is running with is pissing me off, big-time.
It's utter bollocks.
We just aren't working the opposition keeper. Nothing to do with luck.
When you think back to some of the genuine bad luck we've had (Fuller's disallowed goal v Everton in the first season, Cattermole handball on the line at Sunderland, Shawcross' last minute winner against Man City being disallowed).........

Couldn't agree more. If TP picked the right team and let them play we wouldn't need luck.

We have the same "luck" every season, as does every other team. You notice it more when you're in the shit, though.

The luck thing is utter dirge.
We've been consistently poor, don't score goals and the table doesn't lie.
I think it's been a pretty even handed season for us, luck wise.
We've had previous campaigns that we've had far worse luck and comfortably stayed clear of trouble.
We're just reaping what little we've sown this year.

Some might say you make your own luck, the way we have been setting up and Team selection does not put our players in position to make their luck. For the ball to fall luckily at the feet of a player in the penalty area, he needs to be there to take advantage

I don't think we're a particularly lucky side but with heads as down as far as they are its not surprising we're making none of our own luck. I think it's fair to say that some of handball decisions we've had (or more accurately haven't!) this season have been utterly ridiculous but our position has nothing at all to do with luck.
Luck exists though. Newcastle scored in 93rd and 94th minutes in two of their last three home games. The ball dropped perfectly for them on both occasions and to their best striker and they took an extra 4 points they simply didn't deserve without which they would be deep in the mire now.

Ah but having a 'best striker' is that luck? Which one of our clinical finishers would you like such a chance to fall to? Would he even be on the pitch at 93/94 odd minutes?

We have shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times though. Reading away, we seemed to be in control till Kightly was taken off for Deano Wigan at home, 2 nil would have flattered us but poor subs messed it up again. Also we've been lucky a few times, our only win this year could easily have been snatched from us if ref had rightly awarded reading a peno at the death. The mess we find ourselves is all our own making unfortunately, or at least Pulis'

Forst three years in the prem i think a lot of things went against us.
Can't say the same the last two years. Which is what makes it all the more annoying when the manager keeps piping up about luck.
If anything i think this season we are VERY LUCKY that we aren't already adrift. We've only played well for one full game and maybe 20 minutes in 5 or 6 more.

For us, it would fall to super Jon. Remember the bit of luck we had at Everton when their keeper dropped it onto SJW's toe 2 yards from an open goal? It took real skill to get it over the bar from there......

At the risk of getting abuse, I do think that we haven't had many " breaks " in the second half of the season in as much as nothing has really fallen our way, be it decisions or whatever. Stupid goals conceded from set pieces etc that just didn't happen in the first half of the season. Saying that I think alot of it is down to confidence and momentum, it always happens in sport in the same way as things do tend to fall your way when you are on a high, again that's a confidence thing. We have also fluffed a number of chances in front of goal which doesn't help. The one thing that gives me hope is that at some point we simply must buck the trend, if it happens at QPR and we get maybe a lucky early goal or a penalty and the players actually have some kind of lift then I honestly think we'll be ok. We desperately need to get some confidence into the squad and a positive start at Loftus Road with an early goal, or a goal at any stage that means we go into the lead first, will bolster our hopes. There is a case for " you make your own luck " but at the moment I'd take anything!

Of course most sides in a run of bad form have luck go against them more. Confidence is a huge factor and when that is low luck is something that seems to desert you. A good positive result could change all that.

I take all that on board Rob but you can't deny they were exceptionally fortunate (not just the time of the goals the nature of them) to get 6 points out of us and Fulham and if they hadn't, Pardew would probably be getting the same stick now as Pulis. If we go down, I think anyone who blames luck is deluded but at the same time I think even Oulare's magic ringpiece would hit the post right now.

Sounds like they're starting to get titsed off with Pardew as well now from a few things I've read. At least it's entirely in our own hands still.

Hate to agree with Tone atm, he's wrong about almost everything else but actually yes I think we have been, I thought you could feel the luck leave us after Boxing Day (but then did we deserve the luck?), but if there was one moment I felt like oh shit we're cursed it was the Newcastle away game - that really was like the gods leaving us to the vultures.

it strikes me that some of the posters saying we haven't been unlucky recently are the same ones saying we were being lucky before... that's a bit odd I don't see how, it's a fairly consistent viewpoint. I don't think we've been particularly lucky or unlucky this season. Last season we got a fair bit of luck on that good run that kept us well out of danger. This season all we're seeing is chicken coming home to roost. How have we been unlucky exactly this season?

it strikes me that some of the posters saying we haven't been unlucky recently are the same ones saying we were being lucky before... that's a bit odd During the season a couple of years ago when every refereeing decision was going against us until Pulis went on a full-on rant (and rightly so), everyone agreed that we were unlucky, because everyone could see that it was true. Now, I don't really see us being unlucky this season, and I don't think too many others do either. We're just calling it as we see it.
