We've signed a lad from Blackpool called Jamie Menagh. fansonline.net/blackpool/mb/view.php?id=1450033Looks like he's fed up with young players not been given a chance at Blackpool so he's come to Stoke...... I can't find his age anywhere, I think he might be 20ish. Seems an odd one.

George Waring is very good, runs the channels, strong and direct, yes he was released but we picked up Coulson who was released last season and he's played for England this season, not too shabby really, there's a great team working at the academy that are not getting the respect they deserve.

Same old, same old then! Waring looked good against Liverpool, one for the 21's next season I guess.

I don't really post on this thread but I keep an eye on it because it is interesting. The lad who scored 2 against Liverpool on Monday night has joined us from Everton but he is in on a trial basis at the moment. He hasn't signed to the best of my knowledge.
Also, as an indication as to how seriously our club view young players, I heard something that completely astounded me yesterday and that is that when Flo went to Peterborough, he had to pay the petrol money to get there and then to get his girlfriend down there the following week himself even though he went down in club transport.
If that isn't bad enough, Peterborough paid for his accommodation for the first 2 weeks of his loan move and since then, he has had to pay for his own hotel bill. It hasn't been covered by Stoke and because it was costing him a fortune, he is now renting a room in a house that another Posh loanee is living in. A young kid from Spurs by all accounts.
I thought it was a little strange given that the reason he has gone there is surely to offer him the fastest route into our first team, should he be good enough. Doesn't really strike you of a club looking after its younger players does it. I was amazed to be honest.

Cheers Dave! He's scored 3 in 2 so he's doing everything right from that perspective to win a deal! I don't know how other clubs work it but that seems shoddy at best to me. And for those that might have thought about popping down the Brit tomorrow for the West Ham game it's been moved to the training ground. The stewards on Wednesday said it might and were whinging about the club!

I've been reading up on Waring, why in God's name was he released from Everton? He seems pretty highly rated.

It's seems strange but maybe the thinking is to make the young players realise that all things they take for granted by being with a premier league club don't exist if you end up in the lower leagues and make them realise they have to work ard to stay in the premier league. I was listening to talksport drivetime on the way home from work and Matt Holland was on and he said that this was one of the things that Harry Redknapp had always done was to send his best young players out into the lower leagues so they know how lucky they are and they work even harder to succeed, he quoted himself Rio and Jermaine Defoe as examples.

Fair point tailgunner.
I just thought it a little odd that Flo was taken to Peterboro in club transport and had to pay the petrol money and then had to pay for his own hotel and subsequent lodgings, when he is on loan.
I suppose he would pay his own fuel if he were in Stoke, assuming he can drive, and I presume he pays his own mortgage/rent on the house he lives in. At the end of the day, that is what his wages are for.
Players do get too much too soon and he will be on a wage higher than almost all 20 year old kids so maybe he should pay for himself in such circumstances.

Just got back from the WHU v Stoke academy game. No outstanding players apart from Stoke's number 6 midfielder who the lads were calling Charlie. Very busy and good at carrying the ball forwards.

Former England U16 international Charlie Ward has already made a big impression at club and international level. He began 2011-12 with a flourish by scoring in Villa's 2-1 win over Newcastle in the second game of the Barclays Premier Academy League campaign. The midfielder was on target again in a 3-2 defeat by Charlton Athletic and in a 3-2 success over Watford. As well as being a regular in the U18 team, he made on substitute appearance in the NextGen Series in the defeat to Rosenborg in Trondheim. Ward was a key member of Villa's talented U16 squad during the 2010-11 campaign. He also earned international honours by earning a call-up to represent England U16s at the Nordic Tournament in July 2011. Ward's passing and link-up play are seen as his key qualities. His footballing hero is Barcelona and Spain midfield maestro Xavi.

I guess the first team have been in for training so he could take in the 18's too.

Apparently the most successful team this season in the Academy has a win rate of 70% in its age group (which is quite good)
The worst has a negative rate (losses exceed wins)

All were released between then and completing their scholarships. The results really do mean feck all I can assure you. Oh except if they dont win as the senior youth team and then it does apparently. Just a personal anecdote.

You are right Mark - though it keeps the parents happy In the games I watch you can pick out one or two outstanding players and even they might not even make it in the lower leagues. On the way up players develop at different ages and even with skill they have to have the desire to really want it. I'm sure that all the boys are told this but you can't put in what isn't there I wonder what Jon Walters was like as a youngster

Our solid defence in the 21's come to the fore again! Sounds like a cracking game though. The 21's finished bottom of the bottom league. The 18's finished 4th of the middle league. .......................P W D L F A GD PTS 1 (1) Sunderland U18 12 7 2 3 27 23 4 23 2 (2) Tottenham U18 12 6 3 3 28 14 14 21 3 (5) West Ham U18 12 5 2 5 16 16 0 17 4 (3) Stoke U18 12 4 3 5 17 16 1 15 5 (4) Liverpool U18 12 4 3 5 17 19 -2 15 6 (6) Wolverhampton U18 12 4 2 6 16 25 -9 14 7 (7) West Brom U18 12 3 3 6 11 19 -8 12

From looking on their Twatter accounts, Jordan Keane and Adam Thomas have signed new contracts.
Marcel Barrington has been offered a pro contract.
And Matt Gledhill and Jaden Hall have been released.
May the 8th seems to be the day they were told but those 5 are the only ones I can tell from Twatter.

We were after him years ago and he has played an U-21 game for us this season. I think Portsmouth have already released him too. I'm starting to question this whole development squad idea. On paper it's pretty decent but I just think the standard of players we sign for it make it pretty redundant. Hopefully as players come through the ranks this will change.

On paper it's pretty decent but I just think the standard of players we sign for it make it pretty redundant. Hopefully as players come through the ranks this will change. It's a strange one. But I suppose you just need one to emerge and it's done the job. The problem is producing one that's up to standard. Presumably the whole of last season's U-21 intake are not up to standard? I suppose, long-term, there'll just be a more natural progression from the u-18s into the u-21s as our recruitment at younger age groups gets more refined - and we see the fruits of this as they hit their late teens and early 20s, with the odd one potentially making it. But as we had no young professionals in the system, we had to take punts on 10-15 released players last summer just to fill the development squad. And we're still chasing our tails a bit. What are the chances of someone of real potential being released at 18 by another club and still going on to forge a Prem career? Presumably it happens - but the odds can't be great these days. But the u-18s seem to contain more potential than the u-21s, which is a good start.

At least they're getting regularish games at that level which can only be a good thing. But still the best U-21 talent gets farmed out on loan by all clubs not just us. And that wasn't one of the ideas for this U-21 league but I always thought that was a pipe dream by the Premier League/FA. We do need to give it time though.

Again going from their Twatter accounts, George Rigg is leaving and Ben Heneghan (probably/maybe ) has been offered another year. And a tweet from Eddy Lecygne that made me chuckle. It's poorly translated mind. Match morning to 6 vs 6 vs foreign English ... Unsurprisingly they were smoked # @ K_Rossi9GK - Daniel Bachmann GK - Matt Sandiford DF - George Rigg DF - Ben Glasgow DF - Ben Heneghan DF - Immanuel ParryDF - Jordan Keane DF - James Campbell DF - Sam Westley MF - Lucas Dawson MF - Michael Clarkson MF - Jordan Richardson MF - Adam Thomas MF - Jaden HallMF - Andy Musungu FW - Karim Rossi FW - John Marsden And add for next season GK- Dale Eve DF - Ryan O'Reilly (hopefully) DF - Alex Grant MF - Jamie Menagh MF - Charlie Ward MF - Kris Scott ST - James Alabi ST - Marcel Barrington ST - George Waring And maybe Jack Nardiello, I aren't sure though. It's looking congested for all positions bar the wings and full backs....shock horror.
