It may be a bit early but I'm bored so it's time to get the ball rolling on this annual thread all about the goings on in the academy and now the new development squad. I'll add to this main post when more details of players, friendlies and EPPP come along. The AcademyThey had a half decent season last year and finished solidly in mid-table playing some nice football along the way. From that group of second years, 7/8 were given pro deals, 5 from being with us since they were first years and 3/4 from within the deals they signed with the club last season. Along with that Dale Eve the second year this time around, signed a two year pro deal and Ryan Brunt who was a third year signed a one year deal. Now on to the lads who will be playing for the academy this year. We'll know more in the next few weeks I'd imagine about the new intake of first years for the academy. But I do know of a few of them but past their names I don't know anything about them. First YearsCurtis Strong-left back, Welsh Under 17 international. From memory he's been with us for a few years now. Callum Pilkington- a striker signed/released from Liverpool. Jake Cook- not a clue Derice Richards-same Peter Makrillos- an Aussie. That's all I know. There will be a load more too as there will only be 6 second years (from last season anyway) in the squad. When there names are released I'll add that on here. Second YearsIf none of them have been released the second years will be Dale Eve- 17 year old Bermudan goalkeeper who has already signed a professional deal with us. He has big potential imo and hopefully will continue to improve. Ryan O'Reilly- Irish U-18 left footed centre back. Whenever I've seen him he has impressed me with his displays. Decent in the air and a good tackler. Joseph Debayo- a centre half who didn't feature much last season. I presume he's still at the club. Kris Scott- an American U-18 international attacking midfielder. Good at passing, decent engine and highly thought off. Jack Nardiello- a winger who we signed last season, I think he'll be a second year scholar but I'm not sure. From what I saw of him he looked very good. Very direct and has an eye for goal. Marcel Barrington-striker who works his bollocks off. Full SquadGK - Dale EveDF - Curtis Strong DF - Ryan O'Reilly DF - Joseph DebayoDF - Ed Sanders DF - Sam Coulson DF - Joseph Hulme DF - Joel Taylor MF - Kris ScottMF - Eddy Lecygne MF - Peter Makrillos MF - Jack NardielloMF - Jake Cook MF - Kieran Monlouis MF - Ryan Shields FW - Marcel BarringtonFW - Callum Pilkington FW - Derice Richards FW - Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson FW - James AlabiFirst Year Second YearsDevelopment Squad
The development squad will be a under 21 squad that is needed for category 1 status which is what the club want to achieve. It's why so many of last years squad were given pro deals and why we'll sign more young pros in the 18-21 age range. The eight who were already at the club and have been given pro deals are; Lucas Dawson Jordan Richardson Michael Clarkson Andrew Musungu Andy Hall Karim Rossi Daniel Bachmann I aren't sure Immanuel Parry had one within his contract but I presume he did. On top of those six (as far as I know) have been offered pro terms with us. They are; Ben Glasgow (Arsenal) Jaden Hall (Blackburn) George Rigg (Bristol City) Adam Thomas (Everton) Ben Heneghan (Everton) Jordan Keane (Wolves) Daniel Bachmann-Goalkeeper- Austrian U-18 international, injury plagued last season. Could be the third choice 'keeper this season. George Rigg- Right back Ben Glasgow- Right back- signed from Arsenal on a two year professional deal. He has had his injury problems too last season and turned down a deal at Arsenal. arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/benglasgow/Ben Heneghan- Centre back "Ben Heneghan was the biggest surprise of them all, perhaps the most improved player of the season. Ben was a very competent centre-back who was very strong in the air and even wore the captains armband a few times. Since his release Ben had trials at Stoke City and Burnley and like Adam Thomas was offered a 1-year pro deal with the Potteries club."Taken from- www.toffeeweb.com/season/11-12/news/21533.htmlwww.evertonfc.com/academy/ben-heneghanImmanuel Parry-centre back who was a near enough ever present in last years academy and reserve side. He's massive and uses that to his advantage. Jordan Keane-centre back. More can be read about him in the link below. ssm.uk.com/news/keane-completes-move-to-stoke-city/Andy Hall- I'll leave this one for now. Lucas Dawson- Central midfielder. Captain of the U-18's last season and very highly thought of at the club and by other clubs too. He can sit in and dictate play, mix it up, pass and generally has a very good all round central midfielders game. Hopefully he can push on this season. Michael Clarkson-Central midfielder- he's similar to Dawson but probably not as good. A decent player who has also filled in at left and right back I think. Jordan Richardson-Central midfielder- he's an attacking midfielder who plays higher than Clarkson and Dawson. He got 12 goals last season from midfield and has a very decent long throw too. Signed a 2 year deal. Adam Thomas-Winger- "Adam Thomas had two good years with the U-18s and could play on the left or right of midfield as well as a forward. His pace was always a problem for his marker and before Christmas Everton's goal tally was 23 with Adam assisting in 16 of them. Since being released Adam had a successful trial at Stoke City and was rewarded with a 1-year pro deal."www.toffeeweb.com/season/11-12/news/21533.htmlwww.evertonfc.com/academy/adam-thomasJaden Hall- Winger- A pacy wide-man equally comfortable on the right or left of midfield, likes to use his trickery and quick feet to take on his man apparently. Andy Musungu- left winger- I really like this lad. He's all left footed, has pace and at his best he can take on a man, skin him and cross it accurately. He's a bit inconsistent but he's a decent player and one I'd like to see do well. Karim Rossi- Striker- Swiss U-17 international who has a decent touch and started to score quite regularly in the latter half of last season. He'll hope to continue with that this season. Full SquadGK - Daniel Bachmann GK - Matt Sandiford DF - George Rigg DF - Ben Glasgow DF - Ben Heneghan DF - Immanuel Parry DF - Jordan Keane DF - Tom King DF - Andy Hall DF - James Campbell MF - Lucas Dawson MF - Michael Clarkson MF - Jordan Richardson MF - Adam Thomas MF - Jaden Hall MF - Andy Musungu FW - Karim Rossi And on top of those that have just come out of the academy or other academies there will be Flo Cuvelier and Ryan Brunt who are eligible to play too. Hopefully though both of these will be out on loan again next season, Flo to the Championship I hope and Brunt hopefully again to League One. I don't think there's anyone else who falls into the U-21 group. Maybe Lund, who will probably end up in League One/Two again on loan. So stick all new and whatever about the sides in here! Good luck to them all! NB- I'll add a full squad list and stuff like that when we know it. Cheers. oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=132872oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Potters&action=display&thread=167777&page=1

Suljevic has left apparently, Bayern
"It's been okay, but there were some problems between me and the coach" explains Suljevic
"He did not like me and I did not like him"
It is Miro Jaganjac's job now to find him a new club.
"There are clubs interested. Smajl is a very interesting player"

Ah, makes sense, I've just done his little bit too. The tart! Delete. Smajl Suljevic-Central midfielder- but he can play anywhere apparently. For the academy he played in an attacking midfield role when he was here. For some reason he he left and then came back after 2/3 months away. It was strange.
For posterity and the very bored.

I haven't watched any of the academy's games so i will have to take your word when you say they play nice football. But surely with TP in charge for the foreseeable future it would raise the chances of them being given a chance in the first team if they were to play a similar style to the first team.

But surely with TP in charge for the foreseeable future it would raise the chances of them being given a chance in the first team if they were to play a similar style to the first team. It probably would but in development terms it would be a nightmare for the actual players. And people point out glaring errors, bad grammar, missing words etc so I can tart it up and make it better. Ta!

I know, it's why I didn't add him! ;D I get the feeling he'll go from central midfield to some other position though. Or to the Championship on loan.

I aren't arsed what happens with him I'll be honest. It looks a decent signing on paper and we'll see what happens and then judge. I just don't like how the Sentinel keep mentioning he's left footed. It rings bells in my cynical head.

Bayern, is it true that you originally wanted two threads, one for the Academy and the other for the Development squad - but Admin threatened to merge them if you didn't just have the one thread? ;D

Bayern, how much of the youth team do you get to see?
I've been pleasantly surprised at how many youngsters we've actually signed, including a few from other Prem clubs. This does show a committment to moving it forward and really making an effort to move it forward.

Peter makrillos is a very skilful midfielder who will hopefully score a few goals this season and stay injury free. There's a few clips of him on YouTube showcasing his talents a few years ago, his sisters got some tricks too! Ness has definitely been signed for the 1st team, he's a Philips signing ;-)

Bayern, is it true that you originally wanted two threads, one for the Academy and the other for the Development squad - but Admin threatened to merge them if you didn't just have the one thread? ;D ;D Something like that! I just thought it would be best to have the two together as they're kind of linked and it would be easier to follow. What happened to Tunji Agbaje? He was released. This does show a committment to moving it forward and really making an effort to move it forward. I try to go when I can. Anyone can watch them. If it stays the same as last season they play on a Saturday morning. It is and it's down to trying to get the category one status. It can't be a bad thing to have more young pros around. It gives them more time to impress and we may actually see more coming through. I can only think it will help like that.

Bayern do you know an average wage for these 'kiddies'? I only ask to wonder what the outlay of the facilities, coaching staff costs, player costs are when we can pretty safely say most, if not all, won't be used. If we reduced the first team squad to say 18 senior players and then made up another 7 or so with these lads it would make sense, in my opinion.

You could be forced to play a kiddies for a long period of games when he's still way off from championship standard...

Anybody remember James Alabi? We had him on trial about 18months ago; he scored a brace against Man Utd u-18's and celebrated like an absolute maniac for both goals. A real beast of a forward who seemed a bit raw. Anyway, he left us for a pro-deal at Celtic after a few weeks. Not sure how he's been doing up there. Anyone know what exactly an Academy "scholarship" means? Does it just mean they have joined the top level of the academy squad? Is there any money involved for most of them or just for the few - like Cuvelier who had a pro deal when we first signed him into the academy? What happens with those players who join the academy from abroad - they must get their expenses paid - but what about their parents - do they get any help with relocation expenses or at least the costs of regular visits. What changes will the new style level 1 academies bring to the club - assuming we get level 1 status - again, if we draw more players from further afield there must be more expenses to pay those players and their families. How about the development squad - I assume they will all be offered pro contracts (albeit not huge contracts by the standards of the senior pros - again - what about their families or is the pro contra t large enough for them to get to see their families regularly even if they are from abroad. Any help to get my head around this would be greatly appreciated? Where's Mark W when you really need him.
