That was in the 60s. He changed his name from Carlos Babington to Keith Bebbington , got his clearance and played for us, Oldham and Rochdale .

To answer Tony's original question. International clearance isn't an issue - we'll get that with no problem. It is a Work Permit which could be a problem. Because of injury he hasn't played the required percentage of international games - but the previous American coach, Bob Bradley and also the current one, Jurgen Klinsmann are going to confirm that, but for injury, he would have played the correct number of international games - so we should win the appeal in early August.

My concern with this is that I'm not sure he would have played the 75% of games - he's not necessarily a regular starter for the US of A, is he? Having said that, there are hundreds of players who have come to this country and got round that particular regulation...

Babington went on to play for Wattensheid 09 of Germany after his work permit application for England and Stoke was turned down. He ended his career at Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USA. He never played for Rangers.

I think werrington and lakeland have got the Prytz( who was Swiss) and Babington( think this was just after 1974 World Cup) mix up pretty much correct.

Has it been confirmed he has passed his medical? Which was meant to be a few days ago, I have not read anywhere if he passed or failed it.
Just await a work permit I presume with the hearing on 3 Aug.

Can't we bend the rules and play him as a trialist or something?

Just heard a bit on Talksport (sorry for listening, I know) with a reporter from the New York Times. He reckons Cameron covers loads of ground, turns defence into "offense" very quickly and is ideally suited to English football....hope he's right.

Listened to that myself. He sounded very positive about Cameron. As you say lets hope he's right. I don't usually listen to Talksport but it was on when I was in the car earlier. I have to say that the reporter from the New York Times couldn't have been more positive and he also seemed quite realistic. He said that when he was younger, he wasn't considered to be one of the very best but that he has worked and worked at his game and has become a very good player. I had to stifle a laugh when he said that one of his main attributes was how hard he worked! ;D He also said that he believed that he was coming to Stoke as a defensive midfielder rather than a Centre-half, where he has been playing for the last two years. He commented on his ability in breaking up play and as stated above, the ground he covers and his ability to turn defence into attack very quickly. Sorry, but I simply cannot use the word Offense for attack, even when spelt the American way!

I wonder if we plan to let him have a break at any point in the season? He's already played 16 games for Houston this season so burnout has to be a real issue. It'll be interesting to see how we play it. Especially if he is our new right back.

He should be the fittest player we have at the moment. Tiredness and fatigue probably coming up to Christmas has to be a worry though. I still think he'll get thrown straight in at right back mind!
