The very fact the paramedics have managed to get him to hospital and onto ICU is incredible and they have given him a fighting chance. My thoughts are with him and his family. The treatment he has received really is wonderful and everyone involved should be very proud. My young son has a corrected cardiac condition and suffered a cardiac arrest. He has (touch wood) made a full recovery thanks to the heroes who treated him. I sincerely hope Fabrice can follow the same path. x brilliant, uplifting post. Nice one

I'd be interested to know what causes young, perfectly fit athletes to just drop down like that...had it not have been for the immediate proximity of well qualified medics, it may not be such reassuring news. I'm contemplating cmc89's post and wonder how much truth there could be in that...it sounds rather plausible It'll all be purely speculation at this time but the most likely causes for an athlete at his age are 1) HOCM 2) blood clot HOCM (Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy) is where the heart muscle is enlarged to a point where it actually blocks blood flow out to the body. It's a (relatively) common cause of sudden death in young athletic lads and most don't know they have the condition until a massive incident (such as this) happens. I hope fabrice recovers quickly but if it is HOCM it may be his playing days are over. Needless to say, football isn't exactly a priority for anyone right now and everyone just wishes him a speedy recovery I guess time will tell, and i'm just glad that the lad is stable....nothing else really matters tonight x It is more likely due to an undiagnosed right ventricular dysplasia or viral myocarditis causing an exercise induced arhytmia Really hope the medical team got him back in time and they are just ventilating him as a precaution.

Well done, I expect every team should do this... Should he come round to a stable condition, imagine how amazing it will be for him to see the support for him! Wonderful to see the football community in cohesion over it

If he pulls through, It should be the end of his career right? due to health reasons If he wasn't breathing for 10 minutes+ isn't that enough to cause permanent brain damage? Breathing is not the most important thing it's to keep his heart pumping modern first aid now does not include breaths for a stricken person just chest compressions so god willing he should pull through. Franklin.

Franklin. Thought brain damage was caused by a lack of oxygen? It can be, but for a certain amount of time there will be no damage because there will still be oxygen already in the blood system and going round the body. I think? ??? It's been a long time since I did GCSE science!

Franklin. I actullay teach First Aid and from what I'm told and heard the staff at the game have done outstanding well. Supplying oxyenated blood to the brain is the main aim of CPR, weather it be hands only or full CPR. The defib kit that was brought on would be to start the gents heart. Thought go out to him and his family at this awful time. Hang on in there fella.

Franklin. Thought brain damage was caused by a lack of oxygen? It can be after a time but as stated blood does have oxygen so keeping blood pumping can save any damage, I am a trained first aid guy and as per Vinny Jones add on TV chest compressions are vital, I did not see what went on but it sounds as though they were quick to act and did a very good job.

We all love football and anyone that doesn't feel upset by this shouldn't even be involved with football.

Muamba is 23, the same age as me, and in a much much much better physical condition than I'm ever likely to be.. so with that in mind it just goes to show how scary life is. Thoughts with him after this shocking turn of events. Fingers crossed for a recovery!

To be fair to ESPN, I think like everyone else , they were in a state of shock, felt a bit sorry for them as although shocked they had up carry on talking to the cameras and couldn't just sit there thinking bout it.
Keenan looked visably distraught, because of the Marc vivan foe episode of whom he was manager.

we shouldn't do it to give ourselves some credit, we should be doing it to show our support for muamba. I have a funny feeling the game will be called off though I think what the op was getting at was that it was a chance to show the world our hearts go out to muamba and his family, life is bigger than football, and that peoples pereception that we are all a bunch of knuckle draggaing hooligans with no brains (and believe me they do) is wrong.
