Met a few of the 70's players, 1975 I was school captain of the football team, was presented the trophy by Jimmy Robertson. I was already going Stoke, so we had a chat afterwards.
Use to be a member of Wolstanton golf club before coming too Cyprus, played a few rounds with John Ritchie, what a gent.
When I first came too Cyprus In the summer of '85' who was the top striker in Cyprus at the time, Ian Moores, he was bangin them in from everywhere. He played for a team in Nicosia, but in '86'saw this man walk into our snooker club we had opened. It was David Cross who use to play for West Ham. Well he got Ian to come down, good night.

I've met one or two down the years and have always acted like a starstuck teenager when I have...
Hoekstra in Trent Vale tesco (and Edwards's in castle) Lee Sandford brought a PC from me Terry Conroy at The Brit (and at Lloyds TSB in castle) Gordon Banks in the multistory carpark in castle (The Vue) And Vince Oversons wife (Alison) dropped a signed picture of Vince off at my house :-O
All were very pleasant to speak too and a credit to the club and their celebrity status...
Only miserable fooker I ever met was John Halls... Think he was on the 'Angel Dust' though in The Blues Bar in castle.... W@nker!!!!

Met Hoekstra late one night outside a kebab shop whilst pissed. The closest I've been to hero worshipping a Stoke player. Ritchie as a kid when he came to our school in 72. Lived opposite Eric Skeels when I was growing up, though he was just the bloke across the road. John Marsh and Adrian Heath as well. Think that's about it

Met Brynjar Gunnarsson in Fluid nightclub up Hanley. I was with a mate at the time and as we approached him at the bar, my mate just chirped up " Hey up Brynjar, my mate Joey here fucking loves you mate and hes got pictures of you all over his bedroom wall" I really didnt have piccys of him (honestly) and i nearly died of embarrassment as i tried to explain to Brynjar that my mate was bullshitting him. Dont think he was having any of it as he just looked at me very oddly as i crawled away.

I was doing some bank nursing in London in 1998 and worked a shift at St Thomas'. I thought I saw Alan Hudson on the adjoining ward and the staff confirmed that it was him. He was recovering from his car accident I think. They said, 'go and say hello, he would really get a kick out of someone remembering who he is'. So I saw him later in the corridor and told him that he had been one of my heroes. He was really touched and I swear he had a tear in his eye.

Afraid my 'contacts' were with players of long ago - Franklin, Ormston, McAlinden, McCue and. later, Denis Wilshaw (PE teacher) and Ken Thomson. These, as far as I remember, were those I spoke to for longer than a few minutes. There were many others I spoke to as a schoolboy autograph hunter.

Met Gordon Banks at Keele Services.
Told him I was the first person to get a photo with his statue. He asked if I'd been to the game the day before and what I thought etc.
He was really pleasant.
My girlfriend(at the time) said "Is that one of your Grandads mates?"
"No Charlotte. World cup winning goal keeper Gordon Banks."
Met James O'Connor at a petrol station a few year ago on his way to training for SWFC. Nice bloke!
Top thread by the way.

I met Robbie Savage on my stag do in Vilamoura a few years ago - he was a great guy, really friendly and happily posed for pictures - even though I was dressed in a fat suit and bikini at the time...
His wife on the other hand (stunner) had a face like a slapped arse - I was obviously the 37th person to say hello to him during their stroll around tha marine ;D

Had a piss next to Steve Bruce once. Lets just say the head on his cock is not in the same league as the head on his shoulders.
PS I wasn't staring.

I was presented with a £5 WH Smith voucher by Toddy Orlygsson at a school presentation in about 1994. Met Andy Griffin at his house in Barlaston when my Dad did a bit of work for him a few years ago. Think he'd just signed for Derby. His mum made us a brew. Forgot to put my sugar in. Fucking bang out of order that SGS

Other than the time you saw Wayne Thomas in Greggs? If so I'd be interested to know the details. Where was it? What happened? Was it positive? Negative? What did you talk about? I'm considering penning an article on those awkward fan meets player moments and would welcome any input from those willing to share a story. (It doesn't have to be a Stoke player- any footballer would do) PM me if you're embarrassed to post the gory details here, and I'll make sure you keep your anonymity (unless you really demand otherwise). Obviously don't post anything libelous when broadcasting the details of any exchange that was less than pleasant. Thanks- this could be interesting. Or perhaps not. ;D What a cliched ,boring and tedious thread.Consign to the shit bin. Playground level. Yet you comment on it. What a sad little man SGS

I saw Pericard walking out of the stadium after Leeds at home one season, the crowds had cleared and in my infinite wisdom I decided to sing if "Vince can play for Juve so can I to him". He just smiled and carried on walking. ;D

I was at me Mums house in Stone and the doorbell rang and it was a guy delivering a parcel from Grattan's catalogue for next door - who were out. It was only IAN CRANSON an absolute legend and hero of mine. His playing days were over but I think he may have still been at the club in a coaching capacity. I shook his hand and told him that he was a top man. I also met Gudjon in the boardroom at Oldham - nice guy but we lost and Wayne Thomas got sent off and I've never seen him in Greggs.

Met Jermaine pennant today at keel driving range at about 1:30pm. He was pretty poor at golf to be honest and didn't seem in a good mood. I just said alright Jermaine and he just looked up and knoded his head and then hit another shot. Looked like he didn't want to be bothered so I just kept walking past.

around 90/91 i met one coming out of the cubicle in the toilets of the shamrock in longton at 1pm saturday dinner. he was accompanied in said cubicle by a plastic gangster type from the meir area. i assumed he wasnt going to be in the team that afternoon and was on a bender with the lads but low and behold 2 hours later he turned up on the pitch and played the full 90 mins. (please dont ask me for his name, although i bet a few on here will know anyway)
