Other than the time you saw Wayne Thomas in Greggs? If so I'd be interested to know the details. Where was it? What happened? Was it positive? Negative? What did you talk about? I'm considering penning an article on those awkward fan meets player moments and would welcome any input from those willing to share a story. (It doesn't have to be a Stoke player- any footballer would do) PM me if you're embarrassed to post the gory details here, and I'll make sure you keep your anonymity (unless you really demand otherwise). Obviously don't post anything libelous when broadcasting the details of any exchange that was less than pleasant. Thanks- this could be interesting. Or perhaps not. ;D What a cliched ,boring and tedious thread.Consign to the shit bin. Playground level.

Met Peter Beagrie and Cliff Carr at the Trumpet in Stafford years ago both bought a round of drinks, talking with them all evening, both top lads. Bet it didn't take many drinks for Cliff to get hammered. I saw Cliff Carr playing in a celebrities cricket match at Cheadle once. He fielded the ball on the boundary and threw it in underarm style so it pea-rolled along the floor all the way back to the wicketkeeper.

I've met quite a few on a sort of casual basis, but the best was when I was on noons down the pit at Florence. Friday, we came up pit, showered, had a pie in the canteen, and went to the club to have a few bevvies before going home. Huddy and his sidekick, Geoff Salmons, came in and sat with us colliers. They didn't get treated like heroes in them days (he wouldn't have dared try to sell us his books!), but because most of us were Stokies, we enjoyed the craic with them. They were good lads, and stayed with us until about 3 the next morning. The next time I saw them was at the match in the afternoon. I forget who we were playing, but they both had a blinder, and my mate Billy couldn't believe that they'd been drinking in Florence Club until three.
I've met Bluto on a couple of occasions in Longton Park. He's a lovely, quietly spoken lad. Lots of common sense even though he does like a bet on the gee-gees. Lost his wife a while back and is struggling a bit without her.
OS.
PS: I've met Huddy a few times since, and I did once remind him of that night. He laughed and said it was one of the very rare occasions he drank on the night before a game. He signed and gave me one of his books for free. That's a rarity! LOL.

I used to work with Noel Blake's wife (after he'd retired) so met him quite a few times at work Christmas parties and the like. He always seemed genuinely pleased to see me at the bar because he knew I was a big Stokie and we had something to chat about for the evening (you know what work do's are like )...

I met Foghorn at a house in Sale a few times, his daughter used to have violin lessons off a friend of mine who's daughter I taught trumpet. He was a really friendly bloke, totally at ease talking about the Potters,he inferred Lou was a bit of a lazy bugger not really into training the lads but more into the horses. He says it was him and Vinny who rallied the troops during that infamous training session when it was all going a bit tits up,inferring "if Lou isn't bothered then we are d so let's sort it out"... It was the year of our missing out against Leicester, who my mate supported ironically!

I met O'Neill Donaldson in Crete whilst on holiday about 10 years ago. We had gone on a 'cultural' holiday in Malia with some friends and there was a group of about 10 mates from the Birmingham area staying in our hotel at the same time. I can't say that I actually recognised him when I first saw him but we ended up chatting one afternoon by the pool. It went a bit like......'ayup mate where are you from/ what do you do' etc. etc. Obviously my ears pricked up when he said he was a professional footballer and I was quite shocked when he said his name. I admitted to him that I was a Stoke fan and that pretty much all Stoke fans thought he was shit. He kind of agreed that he had been whilst at Stoke but it was a real bad atmosphere and Chrissy Kamara hadn't got a clue. He also said that there were a number of bad characters in the dressing room there, with one of the worst/most arrogant being Kevin Keen which surprised me.
So all in all, shit footballer, thoroughly nice chap to talk to over a beer by a swimming pool!

I've met Pennant, Fuller, Shawcross, Wilko, Higgy and Leon Cort - they've all come into where I work. All nice enough blokes other than Pennant who was an arsehole.
I also used to see Len Bathurst, who played for Crewe in the 80s, in the pub all the time. He was a lovely fella who was right pissed off that he's been pretty much forgotten about.

This is a real random one.
I was out on my Scooter a couple of years ago. it was about early June 2009. I was in Chester and the scooter broke down, no chance of a road side fix so I called for the recovery trunk.
In no time the truck had arrived and the scooter was loaded onto the back. The driver looked at my address and asked if I was a stoke fan, I replied I was and he said he was also a Stoke fan. As he didn't have a stoke accent I asked him how come he supported Stoke if he was from Chester. He said he supported Stoke because his som played for them. It was Ryan Shawcross's dad.
We had a great drive back to my house, very random day.

Had a few sherbets with Lee Sandford a few years back and top lad(and shagger) was Lee. Spoke to Inchy a few weeks ago in Blakeys and was very chatty about Orlando City. I told him i was over in a week or two and he gave me his card and said drop in anytime or call him and he would sort me some tickets out. Also spoke to Kevin Keegan in Orlando when he was england boss and was really pleasant and Brian Robson has a villa a couple of streets away from mine in Kissimmee. The funniest was Georgie Berry in Blakeys in castle.. i was having a piss when George swooped in with a Hey up fellas before going in the cubicle to piss. When i looked round i was greeted with his bare arse as his keks were round his ankles ... Zip fucked was his retort.. legend.

Met a few players at last seasons End of Year Awards Night at Kings Hall in Stoke. Nothing out of the ordinary, just “well done Jermaine, great season” etc and plenty of pics and so on. I’d ticked most of the players off the list that I’d wanted but I’d still not got to meet Wilko and with him being a local lad I was a bit gutted. End of the night we were just getting ready to leave and I popped off to the toilets for a Jimmy Riddle. I’d just finished up and tucked away the baguette and turned away from the urinal and right next to me was Andy Wilkinson, just finishing up himself!! I didn’t even give him chance to wash his hands “You’re a top bloke Andy, can I have a picture please?”. To his credit, he didn’t tell me to “fuck off, I’m in the toilet, I haven’t even washed my friggin’ hands yet”, he was more than happy to pose for a pic. I then realised I had to grab one of the other lads at the urinals, tell him to put his cock away and ask him to take a picture of me and Andy. All a bit bizarre but I left happy enough that I’d met all the players I wanted

Late 90's and Wayne Biggins walked into our workplace. It was during his time at Leek Town and he was in business with Peter Ward,Leek boss at the time. They were running a pallett company and collected a lorry load of them from us.Very weird seeing him in our work when only a few years before i was watching him play for us. Also Xmas 1996 we had a works xmas party at The Moat House,on the same night the Norwich City squad were staying there before a game at Vale. The players were all sitting in the lobby area reading papers whilst Mike Walker the boss was at the bar drinking. We bought him a beer in return for them beating Vale the next day. They lost 6-1

I farted next to Ronaldo's table in Nandos in Parrs Wood. I'd had Extra Hot chicken wings too so there's no doubting he felt it.
My only brush with greatness was when I let Kitson cut in front of me at the roundabout next to the gym. He waved and I got unfathomably giddy.

Over the years... When I was at Keele Uni I worked behind the bar at The Place...Huddy was a regular on a sat night. My niece used to baby sit for Terry Conroy's kids so met TC many time. Thanks for the many free tickets TC. Gudjon had a son in the same year as my daughter at Edenhurst Prep school. Met him often at social events. He even came and pciked his son up from my place after a kids party. Top bloke great company socially. Got all starry eyed when I saw Bertie Biggins in Flannagans Apple on Mathew St in Liverpool. I was on my own and he invited me to join him and his mates getting pissed and chatting up the rough arsed scouse girls...great night. On a sadder note sat next to Mike Sheron on the shuttle from Manc to London who was on his way down for talks with QPR.

One I completely forgot about was I time that I was out in Nantwich and had a talk with Fuller in a takeaway. Me and a mate caught him buying 2 kebabs and gave him a telling off, but he told us not to worry about it.
He was right; he scored against Hull a few days later!

whilst i was the restaurant manager of the Bells of Peover in Cheshire Sir Stanley came in for a meal and to plan the arrangements for his 80th birthday celebrations. was a real honour although i did get a little carried away and got him to sign my arm just below my stoke city crest tattoo and rushed off to get the tattooist go over it, the owner of the restaurant (a shit fan) wasnt impressed with this also ran the restaurant at Stanley casino and Lou was one of the regulars most saturday nights when he was the gaffer usually with Mike Potts and their wives, most saturday nights i ended up with Lou's table at one end of the restaurant and Rudgies table at the other end (just in case) this would have been 1995/6 Rudgie's entourage always seemed to end up near the door, Lou somehow always managed to get the nice table in the corner while i was growing up i used to live in Alsager and was 3 doors down from Jimmy Greenhoff and was in the same class at school as his son (whos name escapes me) cant say i really liked his son but would often invite myself round for tea HAHA there are many more from working in the hospitality industry but these are my fondest

My claims to fame are
Gordon Banks...When I was a young lad I went to the Victoria ground and saw the great GB training with the reserves. Gareth Crooks was a reservist. They were taking penalties against Gordon. At the end of the training session GB signed my rosette. This was just after my first ever game. Stoke 5- Chelsea 3
Peter Fox.....I helped my Dad lay a carpet in his bedroom
Mick Mills...used to see him often in a pub near weston Nr stafford
Neil Adams...I live near him.
