Listening to the phone in after yesterday - if you dare phone up and have a go at Pulis or how the team played for that matter you always get someone else coming on having a go at you. Same as this message board really.
Pulis has done and is doing a fantastic job - 100 % fact. However this does not mean we should not be allowed to be critical when we feel the need arises. Against Man City and yesterday the two performances were binary. Absolute utter rubbish to watch, devoid of any attacking threat and down right negative.
Im sorry but that is true. Maybe I feel slightly less tolerant after paying £38 to watch the Man City game and then to be served up yesterday. I kind of tolerated the dross last Wednesday looking at the bigger picture of Villa and Wigan. However yesterday was awful making me feel even more cheated at Eastlands.
Again I maintain I would want no other man in charge of Stoke - however by the same token we are allowed to be critical if we want to be. The last 2 games merit such criticism so dont bore me with ...........We are 8th in the league and doing well in Europe.
The last 2 games have been pathetic, end of.

Hear, hear. Bloody shocking team selection last night, Woodgate, Jones, Delap and no Pennant. Gave away two points, Stoke must be the most inconsistent team in the Premiership.

I don't think it's that simple.
I understand there are the supporters that want to stick the boot into the bloke. That's football and thats the way it is. Each to their own. I understand there are those that will float from result to result - again, thats football. There are those that want to defend him and are grateful for what he's given us so far. I genuinely think it's those group of people that are very misunderstood.
Personally, I like the bloke, always have and probably always will. Sure, he makes mistakes and is not above criticism. I've often said that we should enjoy where we are because it won't last forever. I've also said that the bloke deserves our respect because of what he's done. He's not exactly a fly by night manager who has just walked into the club. He's given us the best days of our lives over the last 5 years. We couldn't have asked for any more than what we've had. We really are the luckiest supporters outside of the Top 6 in english football yet you listen to the phone-ins and read some on here and it's as if we've just been relegated to the Blue Square Premier at times. It's ridiculous.
That doesn't mean I don't want to progress further and it doesn't mean that I want to felch him if he plays a back 8 against Aston Villa and that I will be eternally grateful for whatever he dishes us up.
I just think some people go too far too soon with him at times and I really don't think he deserves it.

Good post Seddonstandviewer. I agree people do go way too far with the criticism - and no he does not deserve that at all. My point is a degree of levelled criticism is ok - football is all about opinion and debate.
I just feel that some people are so defensive of him its ridiculous - maybe its because of the idiots that are also too far the other way in their scathing criticsm that these groups have evolved (if you get my drift).
........and no we should not be dicking everyone Villa at home included. Its just the manner of the last 2 offerings that merit criticsm for me. I maintain the performances were poor and negative and I believe Pulis responsible for this.

its the difference between criticism and the repeated 'Pulis out' comments which always appear after a defeat or poor performance. theres obviously things to criticise about the last two games, however its the minority of idiots constantly repeating themselves who ruin any sensible attempts to criticise

Firstly, I agree with your post, I too hate how if you say one bad thing everyone turns on you, everyone should be open to criticism & praise. I don't believe in witch hunts & having it in for certain players, like a fair few seem to have it for KJ at the moment.
I will always support to the end whatever team TP puts on the pitch & even though I get frustrated, I still applaud them off at the end, like I did last night v Villa even though I was far from happy with the performance, but not too disappointed in taking a point although I felt all 3 were there for the taking. We had no gusto, we just didn't seem interested. We were too happy to let them sit in the middle knocking it about.
I don't blame Pulis last night, I blame the players themselves, we had enough on the pitch to cause them problems but we failed to give it a go for whatever reasons. I read today that Huth said it was the wind, well if the wind was so bad that you cannot make a pass through the air, ever thought about trying to pass it on the ground? Just seems at times we shoot ourselves in the foot with our one-way approach to every game.
We need a big improvement against Wigan on Saturday & yes I'll be there taking my seat as I do every home game & a lot of away games. I'll be standing applauding the players off whatever the outcome as my support for the club will never die no matter how we do.

Like it or not, TP's still learning. The trick is to learn without going down........seems to me he's doing a good job. Be happy with 8th and get behind the team. Nowt else ter say.

The thing that pisses me off more than anything about him is occasions like the Pennant situation right now. I don’t mind if he’s had the towel out and nutted him, I don’t mind if he’s been scrapping with another player with his flip flops on but for fucks sake treat me like a fucking adult and don’t fucking pretend he’s out of the side on merit.
That just makes you look like a lying cunt.

To be fair, some of the phone calls last night were absolutely excruciating, worse than the match. How about Kev, who gave about 100 reasons why it was the worst Stoke performance of all time, explained why every single player was no good and should be sold, said that the manager's tactics have never been up to much and then said that he hadn't even bothered to watch the game. There was the man (Phil?) who said he was refusing to attend another game where Pennant didn't play. Utterly incredible stuff, just a stream of mind numbing garbage.
Of course, the ridiculous hysterical drivel was then followed up by two phone calls saying that anybody who criticised anything related to the club should be burned alive. I have no idea why I listen to Radio Stoke after a game, especially when there aren't any Vale and Crewe supporters to make the whole thing much funnier.

There is a bottom line solution here - if the current regime is so offensive to you - DONT GO ! Then you are getting your views across in the most forceful way you possibly can and making a great stand for aesthetically pleasing football. The rest of us will get along watching the team. If the manager is as bad as some of you think he will get the sack sooner or later and then you can return! Its realtively simple and you have the power !

Unfortunately, particularly since we've managed to gain promotion to the premier league, even though we had a fair old slice of luck in doing so and could just as easily have stayed in the championship, anyone who even whispers criticism is outed as a pariah. Obviously we have done well in getting into and staying in the premier league. Where I would raise questions would be mainly in transfers in and out, our ability to adapt to a variety of footballing styles, and the beligerent and stubborn attitude often adopted by Tony Pulis. Our transfer dealings have been pretty hit and miss since promotion, with some exceptional signings in Huth, Ethers, Walters, Shawcross, and one or two others. We have also made some pretty dire signings that most posters on the oatie would have steered well clear of. The cost of this is a big hit on the wage bill and a club creaking with dead wood. As for Crouch, Jones, Palacios etc we don't know whether we have had good value from them as they came at a premium so for me the jury is still well and truly out, especially when you consider some we 'gave up' on (Demba Ba stands out there). Then there is our embarassingly helpful pitch size. Add to this our very narrow tactical skill set, our now worthless long throw routine, and our predictability and it's no wonder why we are not the media darlings (not as I'd want us to be). Then there is Tony, Supertone, The Big P, whatever you choose. He's our hero and anti hero all rolled into one (a bit like Coates in that respect if you're over 30). He seemingly has his favourites, his 'flavour of the month' players, and these are rarely the most skillfull, usually the most industrious. He has had 'problems' with quite a few who have mercilessly been shown the door. So it should not surprise people that although as fans we appreciate what TP has done for the club we also have the right to afford criticism where we think fit. As Tony has said himself .... No one person is bigger than the club. That goes for TP too.

I think its great where we are but after being in this league for four years some of the football surely has to be better than yesterday . We played to Villa's strengths all night long and no shots at goal at home come on its not good enough
