Almost none. People in other cities refer to Tel-Aviv as "The state of Tel-Aviv" in an attempt to mock its citizens.. It's very different than other cities in Israel. Pretty 'disconnected' from the rest of Israel. Take restaurants for example - Most here are not Kosher. You can pretty much eat anything here. The Homosexual Parade is held here every year, which cannot be done in Jerusalem for example (they tried, by the way ) I do not have statistics, but I can tell you that if you walk in Jerusalem you will mostly see people in religious clothing, while in Tel Aviv you wouldn't even know you're in Israel.

I'm really looking forward to going, Thank you Very much for taking the time to register on our forum Maccabi, I had a few fears and reservations about going to Israel but I have to say you alone have put my mind at ease and I am looking forward to having a few beers with your fans over here and there.

I didn't want to say anything that might offend you but from your comments about great beaches, bars and girls it doesn't sound like there is a very strict religious code in your country any more... Right, party time it is then... ;D

EuropaLeagueStokie, you are more than welcome and if you do end up in Tel Aviv, I hope to see you I will enter this board now and then, especially before our matches, and I can try helping out if you'll need any assistance. ruts66, well... Israel isn't strictly religious, which is a very good thing. Not many are religious fanatics here. Sure, we do have people who go to synagogue on a Sabbath, but most aren't those people who you see on the television wearing the black clothing and the hats. We are a liberal and advanced country in that aspect. On Sabbath for example, when no man is supposed to be working, more and more malls and stores are opening. We are progressing more and more

They dress very traditionally in the hats and curls and are probably a million miles away now (culturally speaking) from where they originally descended. The Jewish community largely keep themselves to themselves apart from the typical retail stores, tailors and jewellers (Hatton Garden). Strange that the ones who moved away seem to maintain the traditions whilst the people of Israel modernise. A few of my mates are Tottenham fans and call themselves 'Yid Army'. Does this word still cause offense to your people?

Another Maccabi's fan here. For us the game on Britania stadium is the most attractive one so be expected for at least 500 fans. Few words about Tel-Aviv, its one of the most tourist places in the world, been ranked 3 on lonely planet top 10 cities to visit in 2011 and thats what they wrote: "Tel Aviv is the total flipside of Jerusalem, a modern Sin City on the sea rather than an ancient Holy City on a hill. Hedonism is the one religion that unites its inhabitants. There are more bars than synagogues, God is a DJ and everyone’s body is a temple. Yet, scratch underneath the surface and Tel Aviv, or TLV, reveals itself as a truly diverse 21st-century Mediterranean hub. By far the most international city in Israel, Tel Aviv is also home to a large gay community, a kind of San Francisco in the Middle East. Thanks to its university and museums, it is also the greenhouse for Israel’s growing art, film and music scenes." more here: www.askmen.com/specials/2011_top_29/13-tel-aviv.html The pubs here are endless, so if you need rrecommendations just ask. If it's a trip for more than 2-3 days i would check the dead sea and maybe the holy places in jerusalem. BTW I remember large group of stokies who were here during Israel-England match on 2007, you can ask them how it was Oh and about football, each club is favourite on his home court, just tell Shawcross not to kill our players.

Strange that the ones who moved away seem to maintain the traditions whilst the people of Israel modernise. A few of my mates are Tottenham fans and call themselves 'Yid Army'. Does this word still cause offense to your people? As I said in my first post in this thread, I lived in North London for almost 6 years. I lived in Barnet, really close to Golders Green. I remember shopping there for Israeli food products (Cottage cheese - your cheese was so bad!) Anyway yes, there was a big Jewish community just like you described, but there were also families like mine - who relocated temporarily in England for work matters. By the way, the same people you described also live in large quantities in New York for example. In Israel you won't find many. If you do, its in Bnei-Brak or Jerusalem, cities who are considered religious. About the Tottenham fans - yeah, I know of that. I think the origin of Yids is from the word Yehudim which is Jews in Hebrew? Not sure. Anyway no I don't think it has any sort of offensive matter, but I believe it did back then, because I read somewhere that other teams called Tottenham supports Yids as a derogatory name, and after a while the Tottenham fans adopted it. I am going to bed, I will log on tomorrow to carry on and answer further questions if there are any. Good night, had a great time here

Hi Haris, welcome to Stoke, it's good to have you guys on here... Tell your friends that you will receive a warm welcome from 99% of the good people of Stoke if you travel to The Britannia Stadium. The other 1% are stupid and ignorant like every football club has but they pose little or no threat to you near the stadium. Just be sensible and keep your eyes open away from the ground. Normal common sense, that's all. We can't offer beaches, bars and girls I'm afraid but we will buy you a beer in The Harvester pub next to the stadium. The stadium is on the edge of a recently developed former open-cast coal mine - lovely. We are surrounded by big, shiny car dealerships so if you fancy test driving an Audi R8 or something you could make your own fun. I'd bring a ball and have a kickabout if I were you. And, finally, if you are straight you are safe - we don't have a 'little San Francisco' anywhere near the stadium... Goodnight, catch you later...

I don't think it is a lie that Israel is the most xenophobic, racist country on earth. A country who thinks nothing of practicing genocide over its indigenous population for fifty years. The only democratic country un the middle east? Try telling that to a Palestinian.
You know the news repeatedly tells us that paedophiles were often abused themselves as children and as though that is some sort of defence. Israel have managed to conduct statehood in a similar way, excusing their own horrific crimes aganst humanity with the horrors endured by the Jews in Nazi Germany. But just as a paedophile is paedophile so genocide is genocide. I wouldn't spend a penny in an economy that supports a regime that makes apartheid look like name calling. Just some food for thought.
