I think Glastonbury has turned into everything a festival shouldnt be. Remember the good old days when everything was either free or very inexpensive, where the bands played for fun, where you shared with your neighbour and they shared with you ? A festival was a place to chill out with like minded people and leave the world and its conformity for a few days and enjoy each other and good music. Look at the festival scene now. Tarquin and Jemimah have Glasto tickets cus mummy and daddy paid 500 quid cus its so `cool`. These modern day festival folk wouldnt normally go near a bloody field for fear of breaking a nail or getting their boots muddy. Once your in there you get fleeced 6 quid for a can of carling and a fiver for three chips and thats assuming youve still got any cash after the tent theives have slashed the side of your tent and stolen your belongings. Nah,not for me. Theres still a few festivals off the beaten track that cling to the values set by the Stonehenge free festival and try to maintain that vibe as much as possible and thats where I`ll be heading. Peace and love brothers and sisters Peace and Love ?? couldnt have said that on the GDB ;D ;D

Peace and love brothers and sisters Peace and Love ?? couldnt have said that on the GDB ;D ;D Don't agree at all. Glasto has a different vibe from all the other big festivals. They have no problem with you tasking in your own booze to the arena areas, there's no gratuitous advertising (other than charities) they don't ban campfires (in fact, there's free wood provided), the little programme things that they flog you at other fesitvals for £8 are free, and there's plenty of places in there you can get cheap grub. I've never had problems with theft and al;ways seems to be a happy friendly atmosphere about. Yes, there's things that are done differently to a small festival, but to operate something of this size you have to make a few concessions. And definitely a lot of peace and love to be had ;D

Totally agree tubes! Heading down tomorrow. For me Glastonbury is about switching off the real world the weekend. Fantastic atmosphere, so many things going on it's hard to comprehend. Really dont give a toss about the main headliners - so much else to see!

Watched some of last years Glastonbury...... Zzzzz ... It's come to something when I find myself missing those masters of middle aged mediocrity U2 and wishing Bongo hadn't hurt his back. God knows how this has happened but festivals have become the squarest, most tedious things imaginable. 'Ooh ! Let's all wave our arms around to Dizzee Rascal to show how we're not too white and middle class !' You think I sound like an old man? Old ? I'm too YOUNG for flippin' Glastonbury these days !

Wow, just looked at the line up. Over the whole weekend there are 4 bands i would consider watching and two of those are jimmy eat world and OK GO (yeah, the band who make music so great, they are remembered for the treadmill ideo) The ipod of festivals. All hype for trendy 'look at me' scene kids.

No but wish I was. Been a few times before and it is a superb weekend away. The mud does get on your tits though regardless of what anyone says. At first its ok but after three days it does your fucking head in.
Leave Bono alone. His polotics might be more annoying than Joe Pasquale but as a frontman and singer he's up there with the best over the last 30 odd years. Can't stand him offstage but when he's on it-give credit where credits due he's very good.
The lineup this year away from the main stage and headliners is absolutely superb.
I'll stay at home and watch it on the telly. Get my magic mushroom pizza out the freezer and my super strength Somerset cider going to get in the true Glasto' spirit. Yeeaahhh maaaaaannn-groooovy!!!!!!

Went to see The Creatures (99?). Got there about 20 minutes before they came on then went home - only there about an hour and a half.
Place looked shit - just fields full of hippies and students.

i went in 94 and 95 and it was fucking brilliant. blistering sunshine every day.
but to return to the topic, bono is a utter cunt. i can't believe anyone is defending him. U2 are the most overrated band in the history of popular music.
