So sad for Higgy, best wishes to him, I cant understand why he hasn't been playing all season, god knows why TP ever put Pugh or Collins there. For me I would put Deano in there. I remember him playing at right back last season against Man City and he was outstanding, and i think he has enough about him to switch to the left without getting caught out like Collins or Pugh might.

This is really bad news. Just as I was starting to dream of glory this happens. Every time he has played this season the defence just looks more solid. Suspect TP will go withreplacement Collins as replacement - can't see him moving Wilson, Pugh has probably blown his chance and Shotton is a mere youth. He shouldn't mess with Huth/Ryan as that would weaken the whole defence.

Get well soon Higgy. This is clearly not idea and Higginbotham is our only left back at the club but we've got to rally together, get behind the lads and whoever is playing in his position, go to Spurs and Wembley and give it all we've got. It's bad but it's not the end of the world.

how many goals had collins been at fault for this season though? teams KNOW to attack down the right if he's playing, and chun yong lee will dick him down there.
if higgy is out, at least we've got the spurs game to sort it out. woody or pugh is what i'm hoping for

Anybody but Collins or Pugh, please. It's a tricky one though. Wilko rarely performs away from home, Shotton is too young to play in such a big match, Whitehead seems the best option imo. But we all know it's gonna be Collins that plays.

Argh, this is terrible news! Higgy has done really well after he came back into the starting 11, and then this happens. As many of you suspect, I too believe that Pulis wants to give Collins a shot at LB. But it's a good shout to throw Wilson over at the left, as he can use both feet. Wilko is probably rearing to go, and I would much rather see Shotton at RB than Pugh or Collins no the left to be honest. Get well soon, Higgy! You're my favorite Danny of the lot! It's a bit of a coincidence that we have got three left backs at the club, and all three are called Danny?

Wilko or Collins? I know who I'd pick every single day of the week and it's not the gormless looking Welsh bloke. It should be a no brainer. Wilko at left back - really? ABC, Jen, ABC.

Just trying to recall the games Wilko has played at LB.
A quick google shows he played there at Man City in the cup last season, although he got injured and seemed to be getting a bit of a pasting by Wright-Phillips - and was switched back to RB after half an hour.
And he also apparently played well there in the win at Hull in our first season up.
Wigan at home last year?
Any others?

I am truly devastated about this one!! I think our 'regain' in form has actually been largely due to Higgy helping to sure up our LB slot and his free kicks have helped immensely!
It is a massive loss for us and I think we will suffer because of it... because Pugh or Collins just don't measure up!!
BUT it is a huge testament to Higgy that the tried to play on with a torn cruciate ligament!! I love the man and he will be sorely missed.

It’s a pretty sad indictment of Collins time at Stoke that you have absolutely no confidence in him filling Higgy’s boots in the high profile games ahead. As a full international and a couple of hundred top flight appearences, there shouldn’t be the slightest worry of him slotting in but all previous evidence suggests that he’s a conceded goal just waiting to happen.
That said, the mad Mackem in my office said (in contradiction of Fishpaste) that he would have Collins back tomorrow and would happily have carried Higgy to the Brit on his back so there must be a vaguely competent defender in there somewhere…… musn’t there?

Whoever comes in to replace Higgy for the weekend, and indeed for the semi against Bolton, has some pretty big boots to fill. Replacing an in-form fans' favourite is never going to be easy, so it's imperative that we give Collins/Pugh or whoever our FULL backing, just like we'd give Higgy.
We all know that left back is probably our weakest position in terms of decent cover, but that's not the fault of Collins or Pugh so let's just get behind them like we would any other player.

Holden missing for them is a bigger blow. Let's move on guys and put our faith in Collins (for it will be him) justifying his price tag and having a decent game. He offers us more going forward but doesn't possess the set-piece danger of Higgy, both in the air and from free kicks. Disrupting the team by moving other people around isn't the answer. Collins needs to view this as an opportunity to impress or else his future with us will look even less rosy than it is.

He won't play Wilko there, it's going to be Pugh or DC.
From his displays recently I'd go with Pugh.

As we've seen for a few seasons now, it is quite easy to get behind Danny Collins.

A defender and a centre back, yes. He isn't a left back though and as much as I like the guy he's got the turning circle of a 1960's Russian car and his positioning is woeful but if he plays in the left back slot yet again he'll get my full support.

That leaves three options: 1. Pugh at left back - not ideal 2. Collins at left back - no thanks! 3. Wilko at left back - he's played there before and had a couple of decent games and at least one 'mare. Put Wilson at left back, good two feet, wilko right back

I agree, we need to get behind and support WHO EVER is occupying the left back slot, clearly Higgy being injured is a major blow to our chances but in all honesty we cannot afford to slate the left back who does come in for him. If it's Danny Collins, Danny Pugh or anyone else who Pulis thinks will do a good job in the position then they will get my full support.

Can't see anyone else but Collins fitting in as the natural replacement. He does have decent games and some are getting a bit carried away but can see why to a certain extent as does get caught out. Wilkinson there is a complete non starter for me and Pugh is capable and versatile but it's not like we can't beat Bolton without Higgy although a real blow for him and the team.

The biggest thing we will miss about Higgy is his leadership. The defence always seems more secure with him around. He's very vocal and I'm sure Ryan, for one, benefits from it.
I think it's got to be Collins at left back, sadly. The other options just seem like a bit of a punt and I don't think Pulis is brave enough to try them - and rightly so, with so much to play for.
