How come we are suddenly in a nightmare situation because of an injury to one person. No plan B. Now there's a surprise.

First off, same here gutted for Higgy and thanks for what you've done these past few weeks Danny. Second up, TONY DONT PLAY DANNY FECKIN PUGH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THE EXPERIMENT FAILED AND IS OVER! Thirdly, Danny Collins has to step up and prove why he was once a Captain and why he was so highly regarded in the North East. Now's not the time for juggling players around all over the place. Lets keep it as settled as possible. Hopefully Collins can settle in aswell and some of the confidence may rub off on him. We must stay focused and together and get behind the lads. We're talking like we've been defeated already...we most certainly HAVE NOT!

We are not deflated at all. It just annoys us that the current settled team has been disrupted. Danny Collins will do a great job for us and score the winner in the semi final with a great free kick.

The bottom line is that Danny Collins is a player we've spent £3M on.
Time for him to step up to the plate and prove he's worth it.

I hope to Christ that danny Collins doesn't read this message board He does read the board thats why he has lost all his confidence; would have been a belter that lad. Destined now for Accrington Stanley - who are they; exactly

Quite like the idea of Wilson (l) and wilko (r), wilko tends to do well in big games.
Still, if we play Collins or Pugh then we just have to hope they play well or we get away with any mistakes they do make. Holden is a much bigger loss for them than higgy is for us.
With big KD and elmander up front for them we need to limit the number of balls going into the box, huth and shawcross might be great in the air but no defence can cope with endless balls in against those two. However much anyone rates collins, stopping crosses going in is not his forte.

I'm gutted for Danny, he is just hitting his best form for ages, those two goals were great and I can't believe his bad luck, what with missing Wembley and the rest of the games in the run in. I'm gutted for the team. We have at long last had a settled team, which almost picks itself, and now this Regarding his replacement, there is Pugh, Collins and Wilko who can play left back. At this time I would go for a straight replacement and use Collins. GET WELL AND FIT SOON HIGGY, WE NEEDYA

bad news we have looked solid with danny back in, and the free kick goals are a bonus collins cost us points at Bolton with that tackle (and elsewhere) they'll see him as a weak link and go at him Pugh or wilko not good enough for that position either

That isn't true though is it potterlog. Danny Collins has played almost all of his career at left back with the occasional outing at centre half. Higgy on the other hand only played a small number of games at left back for Southampton, which he cited as a reason for his choosing to join us first time around, and until his return to us, has played centre half at every other club he has been at, including us. Higgy is a centre half who can play at left back and since joining us in the premiership is primarily a left back. Collins, however, is most definitely a left back by trade, and a very poor one at that. You're maybe right, although I'd say that Higgy has played at least half his career at full back. My main point really was that DC is a centre half. The Cardiff game was enough to show me that.

Some Sunderland fans' comments on DC when he got their Player of the Season in 2008:
Well done Collins, you have improved alot this season. For Brazil he should play Danny collins For Brazil he should play up front
For Brazil he should play Danny collins Danny collins is a skillful ****
Well done
Do we stick with him next season? yes! why not? he has done a great job in the division we will be in next season. we haven't been promoted so we dont need to ask the question can he step up we already know he is a good prem left back well done collins well deserved. i think we shud stick with him safc_1973 but maybe buy some cover for him,wot ya rek?
Congratulations Danny Collins.
The competition for the LB spot will be much harder next season I'm sure, but his name
Never has a more deserving player been voted "player of the season" at SAFC..
Really delighted for the lad - Definitely stick with him next season but you've got to push on for the next level - If there's someone better that's available then sign him but if not then we've got a pretty solid left back...
Very well deserved.
For all I know the world might be full of better left backs but in this country, except for Evra, Clichy and (maybe) Cole, I can't think of one. Also, I am comfortable having Higgi as back up if required.
There are much more obvious positions to improve rather than wasting money fixing the LB position that isn't broken.
Hear hear! Well done Danny. Has tried his guts out this season and if you think back to the first day of the season, he wasn't even starting. He's proved a lot of people wrong, long may it continue!
Personally I think he'd be even better at centre half!
Agreed with Marcusblackcat.
Congratulations DC
As sheikh said earlier, there must be a good LB in there somewhere... ???

I can't see tony doing this but i think it would make sense in stead of playing bloody Collins just move Wilson left back and bring Wilko back in at right back.
We all can see that Wilson can use both feet so cant see it been so much of a problem.

Thats a sensible option mate, but we will really miss Danny H. It`s no coincidence that our upturn in form has come from his return to the side.

Many people have already suggested this on another thread so I'm guessing you're headed for the bin. However, if you want a response I'd say it was bonkers to mess around with a settled side any more than we have to. Keep Wilson where he is and where he's been playing well I do feel we're making too big a thing out of Higgy missing, sad though it is.

As so many others I'm gutted for the poor guy. He puts so much heart into it and he has that great big fuckoff grin when he scores. Life goes on and so will Stoke but he was one of the guys who most deserved to go all the way.

Massive loss for us but the idea of wilson at left back is more frightening than collins!! these people will then moan about us playing square pegs etc! get collins in their and hope his season starts now!!

It is a devastating blow for Higgy. Having fought his way back into the team to suffer a freak injury like that was very cruel. At his age he is unlikely to get another opportunity to play in a match of this magnitude at Wembley again. However, as Davef said, it is time for Danny C to step up to the plate. It would be nice to see Danny & Mama limping round Wembley with The Cup in May.
