you could have phrased that differently Joe.... my boss at my old job (a Norwich fan) insisted the entire 1981 Norwich team & manager was gay Townsend?

If you profess to be a profesional footballer then verbal abuse goes with the territory. A ribald dig at his sexual orientation, nationality, colour, race etc. is ok at a footy match if you feel the need to verbally abuse a player. However, I do not think this kind of abuse (or any abuse) is acceptable if you were to meet the same player in public. Does this make me a hypocrite? </td></tr></tbody></table>
thats my only problem with that paragraph , i dont agree with racism anywhereSCFC2010 How is abusing someone for their race any different to abusing them because they are gay? Someone can't change their sexuality any more than they can change the colour of their skin. Arguably while neither are right, many would count racism as worse than homophobic abuse.

Lost, that is very true. Does it make it right though? I don't think it does.... personally I think it's partly down to the fact that homophobia seems to be the last 'acceptable' form of prejudice in the media. Although to be I don't believe most people who make homophobic comments are actually homophobic, I'm fairly sure I've shouted things at a football match that could be considered anti gay and I'm about as far from that as it's possible to be!

Wouldn't bother me. I work alongside many gay people in my profession. Seeing them at the footy wouldn't make much difference. which one are u, the red indian or the construction worker?

I would not care one bit if any Stoke player came out as gay. As long as they give their all for the club then nothing else should matter. if an opposition player was gay then I would not stand for them getting any homophobic abuse and I would report anyone who did, just like I would report anyone for being racist. You are what you are and should be proud to be so.

thats my only problem with that paragraph , i dont agree with racism anywhere So you're drawing a distinction between what is okay to take the piss out of and what isn't? My views on that are well known on here, I'm a firm believer that either everything is okay to take the piss out of, or nothing is. Nobody is perfect enough in humour or views to draw an objective distinction between fair targets and taboos. Having said that, I hold no prejudices. I'm aware there is genuine hatred out there but there's normally a very distinguished boundary between pisstakery and vitriol.
