I understand that. What I don't understand is the argument that the althernative to how we play at the moment is to try to play like Barcelona. It's ridiculous.

There are 2 extremes, Pulisball & Hollywood Holloway ball.
Pulisball is sinking to new depths of extreme Pulisball, it's abrasive, horrible and predictable, it's lacks invention, skill, witt, guile, class and more importantly self respect. To lose playing like this is just too hard to accept, to win is bearable. Unless it's a last minute winner it's far from enjoyable because it's always the same old same old repetitive crap.
Hollywood Hollowayball, Blackpool supporters must be having the ride of there life, Ups, Downs, edge of your seat football, good attractive football at that, Holloway has created this on peanuts that shows Tony Pulis that you can be successful if your willing to take the game to these so called "top teams", you can play football in it's purist form and walk away with your head held high with a positive result.
Now I'm in no way suggesting that I want A holloway type Stoke City team because I agree that Blackpool could be a flash in the pan and they could be relegated next season after the honeymoon period is over.
A bit of middle ground wouldn't be half nice though, midfielders that get stuck in but can also play a defence cutting ball and are allowed to get forward to support attack and play "football" , full backs that are allowed to over lap more often, a bit more variety.
David Vaughan and Charlie Adam for a combined total of £700'000 is current proof that you can find footballers to compete at this level in the centre of the park effectivley and offer creativity.
The thing with Pulisball is it is all about playing for set-pieces and keeping it tight, put it this way, in short it's fucking boring. No imagination at all, they are programmed to not think for themselves but to hoof, hoof, hoof and if that fails, hoof some more.
For a Premier League team extreme Pulisball is just making us a laughing stock,
what is the harm in a bit of middle ground? It isn't like we will automatically get relegated because we started to play a bit of freedom football is it? ( giving the players the freedom to be clever with the ball). Also, it's not like we are playing strictly Pulisball to get us into Europe, because it won't get us there, so what are we gaining out of watching shit, negative pulisball, I just don't get it, why can't we play more "football" and be mid-table?
Some of the players we have are more than capable of playing some very good football if they are on the pitch at the same time and are allowed to play some good football, these are established premier league footballers FFS, not division 4 players!

I understand that. What I don't understand is the argument that the althernative to how we play at the moment is to try to play like Barcelona. It's ridiculous. Exactly, it has to be a slow progression that happens over many seasons to slowly start playing more expansively. We have often played with 2 wingers this season, we have not done that before for example.

I tend to agree with that assessment oggy with the exception that merely avoiding relegation wouldn't be a good season. It would be a disappointing one for me because we are so much better than that. Having avoided relegation easily to date, accepting that for this season is Pulisesque in its negativity. The rest I agree with. Improving on last season would be great. Finishing 9th would be magnificent and to drop like a stone but stay up and to win the FA Cup would be the most preferable of all remaining options for this season for me. It would be exciting if nothing else!

No. He's a good player, but he's more of the same. We have replaced a creative player with another target man. I like Carew - he's an excellent player, but we need more creators and the transfer window has left us with fewer. Carew isn't going to be able to score a bagful of goals without service. Instead of adding more strings to our bow, we've got less - we've dropped Ric, sold Tuncay, and seem to be having second thoughts about playing both wingers. We have got rid of a creative misfit. Yes, we should have kept him until a replacement was found, but we didn't and Carew looks a class act. The Carew/KJ partnership looks promising to me, especially with Ric as backup. Ethers was injured yesterday and JP had a pulled back muscle a few weeks ago. I think TP will play both when he gets the chance with the two big guys up front. Wilson at full back was the main interest for me. I think he can make that position his own. In what way is Carew and KJ promising? KJ is currently a waste of a shirt and we have created virtually nothing from open play. If Pennant wasn't fit then why was he on the bench? Without Ethers we look like half the side. Without Ric in the team we're far less potent. We played KJ, Carew and the wingers last week and corners and free kicks were the only way we were ever going to score - we need the unpredictablility that comes with either a creative type or a pacey type up front ahead of the target man. All it takes at the moment is to double mark the wingers and have a big lad head away the big punts upfield and we've got no chance. The mighty Fulham showed that. Twice.

Teams are NOT getting used to us. We are higher than our last finish in the Prem and still in the FA Cup. Look over our 147 year history. This is one of our best seasons ever. thank you....finally. ive kept my mouth shut on here, but so many people are pissing me off. some fans need to get a grip. so fickle its untrue. after every loss nob heads on here post negative tosh, and they all disappear after a win. stoke have been for most of this season in the top half of the table and we are two games away from wembley. Some will think of something to moan about even if we win. At the moment its TPs interviews or lack of it.Theres always something wrong with Tone in some peoples eyes. Some simply have it in for him. I said on another thread that would complain about him having odd socks on, or wearing an awful tie.its simply unbelievable.

Football is an entertainment industry.....I gurantee we wont sell as many Season tickets next year. Seriously, I think that's the Litmus test. If...and it's a big IF... we nosedived in the season ticket sales, I reckon PC would have some serious concerns. If not.... I reckon TP's here for another four years at least.

didnt we play nicer football under Boskamp? how many season ticket holders did we have then? Is there really no happy medium between the two? Personally I'd settle for us playing how we did in November/December as opposed to the timid, ineffective dross we've seen in the last month.

didnt we play nicer football under Boskamp? how many season ticket holders did we have then? What the hell has that got to do with it? And the answer in reality is no we didn't. But that doesn't mean TP does. I think when we play with wingers and balanced front 2 we play some decent stuff but this past 6 weeks has been bloody awful.

Whether you are with him or not the title of this thread is a fucking joke surely not really a lot of people don't like the style of football that we playing Tony Pulis has got a very distinct style that has got us promoted and kept us here for three years The question is ... would you prefer to be bored out of your skull every week and stop in the Premiership or have a go at a more adventurous type of exciting football and run the risk of being relegated.
