disagree mate, he was awful and the game changed when he went off! we were too slow with him in the side, we took him off and we went on and won the game diao is just a scapegoat to most fans, he was good in the first half and he only went off because the side needed balance as whitehead was on the wing! Let's hope TP does'nt 'read' players and matches like PickSCFC

Occasionally you come across a poster who you agree with virtually nothing they have to say You Stokelad 84 are my latest example ;D hes right though, people like you wouldnt know a good diao performance if it bit you on the arse *did you see his MOTM performance against fulham? Tuncay was MOTM. * I don't think you, stokelad84 or March4 would know a good Tuncay preformance even if it bit you on the arse ect'.

Tuncay was the sponcers MOTM yes.
Diao played well against Fulham, tackling and keeping posession well (despite everybody saying how shite he is)
Him and Delap are our best defensive midfielders at the club. So I will be very suprised if they both don't start there on Sunday.

i hope tp isn't thinking of playing whelan in place of whitehead, this youth must wake up and think it's christmas every day, to play premier league football and be a current international when he is the most talentless, bone player we have signed. for christ sake tone, think about wilson or tuncay to do that job as a one off, who knows we might beat united, and knock it abite a bit at the same time. fuck off have you ever even seen him play he's twice the player Whitehead is and Wilson clearly hasn't done enough to warrant a first team spot, Whelan is a great player he wins the ball and he finds a Stoke player much more frequently than Whitehead does, he fills his role perfectly and fires off the odd cracker, I don't know exactly what more people expect from him We desperately need a quality Midfield General in january, don't we?

On the interview on the Player thingy today TP says he's given Whelan a couple of days off this week because he's "tired". He also says that Wilson has trained well, but then Salif is available "if we want to go with experience". So I think it'll be 1.Salif 2. Wilson 3. Whelan Salif it is then That'll pop the atmosphere in double quick time

Spot on pick. If we won and he had a stormer, there will be threads such as:
"Diao's legs have gone" "Diao's a liability" "Why play Diao instead of Tuncay"

We couldn't get out of our own half at Newcastle with Diao in the side. God knows what it'll be like* against Man Utd.
*The Alamo, presumably.

Diao neutralised Newcastles best attacking threat (Carroll) which is why there only shots came from 35 yard free kicks.
We didn't get out of our half much due to every ball knocked forwards was miles away from Jones and Walters.

If Tuncay is near CM against the shit we will be crushed in the middle and be heavily beaten. Whelan has been atrocious for Ireland recently and I would play Salif or Wilson ahead of him but as is the general consensus, I would expect to see Salif starting Hmmm - how do you know? Is it tried? No it hasnt been tried but that reasoning doesn't mean it will work. Tunny isn't strong enough or good enough at tackling to play CM. Some people need to realise you can't just put a forward at CM and expect him to adjust his entire game in an instant, it's ridiculous.

How about because we play with two sitting midfielders, Tunny isn't that kind of player, and he's too lightweight by far to play in a Pulis midfield? I'm no great fan of Whelan's, but considering the opposition, I reckon he's probably about the best option to go with. More mobile than Salif, and it would be unfair to chuck Wilson in such a big game imo.

You gotta love how fickle football fans are... This time last year we were crying out for Whelan to play instead of Whitehead... Everyone was saying what a waste of money Whitehead was and that he's useful, it now appears to be Whelan's turn to be the blamed :/

Diao plays against Newcastle, as an attacking threat we are absolutely non existent, stink the place out and go into half time a goal down. He comes off, the bloke who replaces him turns the game around, we start to play a bit of football and win the game 2-1 and we're somehow expected to think that he played a part in us getting three points?

Please.....can we not just have a right old go at Man Utd at home for a change? If we give it 100% with our most attacking team, maybe we will lose 5-4 but it's better than losing 1-0 and not giving it a go!

I for one hope he plays.....the one centre midfield player who tries to play football......we need to see our tactics for what they are and have been at times?....lets see and hope if it continues in the similar vein that have seen recently....

Diao individually played well, but the team as a unit were utterly crap. That or we actually set out with no intention to get into Newcastle's half, just sitting back, cutting the supply to Carroll and killing the crowd until we brought Fuller on - which would obviously be a bit of a daft way to set up. Anyway, despite Whelan's poor start to the season, I'd probably put him alongside Delap in the middle. I think Whelan/Wilson/Diao doesn't matter too much, so long as we play Pennant, Etherington and Delap.
