So the constand press links, him seemingly to be an ideal player and the CEO going to Spain aren't enough? It all adds to us being after him in some form for at least 12 months and maybe into January this year. Now we obviously think we can sign better. I won't hold my breath. Are you serious?' Constant press links and him seemingly to be an ideal player'..........................is that really the best you can do? It adds up to nothing................you believe every you read in the tabloids do you? Ever think he's been linked with us and a dozen or so other clubs due to previous interest. There is NO concrete proof to show we ever followed up our interest apart from idle gossip in papers etc. Great examples FFS ................I see you failed to quote me again. Pull me up on things but try and make them things I ACTUALLY say eh. That's twice in two days you've made up things I apparently said.

I never wanted him to sign anyway, lanky steak of piss thank Christ for that Serps, you're here. I'll retract my 'missing person presumed severely depressed' statement now....oh and my sob story to the Sun The depression will probably set in when we unveil Rob Hulse on september 1st

Seeing as we tried so bloody hard to sign him in the first and then the constant rumours-yes. And we followed the interest by sending the CEO to Spain. You imply them FFS!

Altidore/Piquionne?
Count Beckford and Fryatt out as they've never played in the Prem!!
On a positive note at least Daryl Murphy is safely tucked away at Ipswich!!

I am extremely disappointed that Zigic has left Valencia and has not signed for Stoke City. The only plus point being that I won't have to sit through hours upon hours of Spanish football in the hope of catching a glimpse of the big man, from now on he'll be on our screens more regularly. Zigic on MOTD and the opportunity to see him live in the flesh next season will be exciting! Best of luck Mr Zigic im sure a few more of their potential signings are thinking the same too, hmmm brum are going places, picking up zigic and that n'zogbia (if and when he goes). brum are showing us how to develop a club. well done alex mccleish. a high profile signing leads to another, the snowball effect. Remember though pasa you have to be in the Prem 3 to 4 seasons before you push on! but Brum said fuck that why wait??? They sign Zigic £6m maybe N'zogbia for £8m thats £14m....we have wasted 3.25m Arismendi 3m Collins 2.5m Sonko 1.5 Tonge 1.8 Soares 1.5 Davies 5.5m Kitson Thats the best part of 19m FFS!!! And only one has been used out of those (kitson) but i know what two players i would swap for the other 6!

I haven't bothered reading through all the posts from the wrist slashers.
But I would just like to pint out that for the sake of Brum he better be able to prove himself in the prem. He would be a great signing on loan for the season but a 4 year contract on 50,000+ a week is big money if he flops. Being stuck with a 33 year old on that kind of money could potentially be devastating to brum.
I honestly wish him luck though and hope he does ok. We will make some decent signings I'm certain. No point in slashing your wrists at the end of May. Most business will only start after the Worl Cup and Pulis himself has confirmed this to be the case.
Personally, I think Piquionne on half the wages and transfer fee could be a good option for a year or two. Thought he did well in a shit pompey team.

yeah, we've only been after him (allegedly) for 2 seasons Have we? We apparently made a loan move 18 months ago but absolutely nothing to prove we ever followed it up 'Well this shows how small time we really are in the midlands and prem' Garbage...............surely the same can be said of Villa by your amazing theory as they obviously weren't interested either? I know its hard to swallow bud but, We Are Small Time In The Midlands / Prem! All the others can attract proven quality

4 year deal on 50-60k a week for a 29 year old?
Christ on a bike! Its that type of lunacy that gets you where Pompey are now!
Ridiculous gamble and one you will never get your money back on if it doesn't work out.

How do we know he's on 50-60K a week? He's gone for a longer deal so maybe it's less.
Piquionne would be a good signing for us.

Here's a couple we'd forgotten about - Marc Antoine Fortune and Diamansy Kamara. Both at Celtic, both probably surplus post Mowbray, both probably not really what we want but affordable and experienced at Prem level. Pulis is known to like Kamara. Stray dogs looking for a home!!

Personally I hope Zigic is shite for Brum.
The thought of Marc Antoine Fortune for Stoke is not a comforting one. I'd have Richard Creswell back any day over the failed Brazil and Celtic "hitman".

You won't get your money back on either player, but Heskey is proven in this league and we know that he could come in and play exactly how this manager would want him to. He does it for England every time he plays. It's a crucial difference.

I'm absolutely gutted.
really thought that this bloke would fit into Tone's system like a hand into a glove.
Considering that we were pursuing him twelve months ago you have to wonder what the problem was.
Wages?
I actually think that Tone has got to offload Kitson and Beattie before any more strikers arrive at the Brit.

Proven as what? A donkey? He's proven over time that he can play the withdrawn target man role that Tony Pulis plays in his system. He's proven it at club level and International level time and again. He's proven that he is better than the current incumbent, and all of the "risky" failures we've since tried by quite some distance. If that denotes a donkey then yes, fill your boots. Some people on here need a serious reality check.

seems brum want to move on more than stoke do, never mind there might be some shit left for us on the final day of transfers. Doesn't at all. Just proves that we're not interested in Zigic and are looking elsewhere. I hope you're right.

I don't think he has though. He has proven that he can play a withdrawn striker that wants the ball at his feet and chest. He won't get that here.
He probably won't score more than Mama. He's not as good as Mama in the air. And he falls over a lot looking for fouls not using his strength and then whining to the ref when he doesn't get the foul.
I really don't think he suits the role unless we changed the way we play slightly. Which we've shown we won't.
That and I hate him (as a footballer) and have done for years. ;D

If we sign a 33 year old player, when we have many approaching that age bracket who are clearly not as agile as say 2 seasons ago then we're fucking mental

Make no mistake, Heskey would be a great signing for us. He could play a key part for England in this world cup because of his power and unselfishness which will create goal scoring opportunities for others. Is he a better player than Jermaine Defoe? No of course he isn't but he will probably get the nod to start for England because he fits in the system and is the best player in the country in that position. That is why he has consistently been picked for England by various managers.
It just so happens that the player we most need to replace in our team plays in that position which Heskey fills. He's good enough to play in that position for England so people thinking he is not good enough to play in that position for Stoke are on cloud cuckoo land.
The likes of Ian Wright say they would drop Heskey and start with Defoe. But that go's to show why that numpty is a presenter on a shit radio show and a columnist in a shit paper rather than an international manager.
So all in all I would be delighted to sign Heskey for a couple of years for 2m (Especially if we can off load Beattie for 1m or so). But as it go's I don't think we will manage to sign him anyway.

That and I hate him (as a footballer) and have done for years. ;D There we go... I knew we'd get there in the end! ;D I hate footballers for 2 reasons-they're a knobhead or they're shit. Heskey falls into the latter. And all the stuff I wrote before stands. We've seen it with Parkin, Pericard, Kitson, GNW, Ameobi etc Tone trying to players in the role for Mama and it not working. He's just not suited to our game ie long balls in the air within 20 yards of him and not directly and accurately aimed. That's what he gets with England and Villa, he won't get it here.

I'm just glad that will shut people the fuck up about us signing Zigic. I suppose sending Scholes last year to negotiate a deal for his signature was what put him off.
