I can't say that I will be sheding too many tears until we panic and sign Rob Hulse on August 13th and davesviews tells his resident **** crewe that that's what he said would happen all along. I think you've transposed the figures on your estimated date of Hulse's arrival.

How many possibles in England do you see, Jamo? Can you see anybody outside Heskey at this point? I don't really mate. I can see ones that TP would be interested in (Hulse, Heskey and KJ) but apart from Kenwynne (who I would still have serious concerns about) I can only see us getting someone from overseas, which would be a complete change in approach from TP and therefore quite unlikely. Im just hoping he does dip his toe into the foreign market as our options for a player to fulfill the role that TP would want aren't great if we stick to these shores. so we cant afford the players we want from the premiership but we refuse to shop abroad to find players that will fit us who earn wages we can afford, but we don't, we continue to make do with third or fourth choice or in reality, players we didnt really want, but hey we had may aswell spend money on these than to find a player more suited to our style from overseas..... am i missing somthing here? i think i may have the answer but if tp can't see it i must be wrong...

Well i'm fucking gutted we haven't got him- i just TRULY hope he doesn't set the premier league on fire next season- because most stoke fans and especially pulis will be devastated, particularly if our form drops because of our signings- or lack of them :-(

I am extremely disappointed that Zigic has left Valencia and has not signed for Stoke City. The only plus point being that I won't have to sit through hours upon hours of Spanish football in the hope of catching a glimpse of the big man, from now on he'll be on our screens more regularly. Zigic on MOTD and the opportunity to see him live in the flesh next season will be exciting! Best of luck Mr Zigic im sure a few more of their potential signings are thinking the same too, hmmm brum are going places, picking up zigic and that n'zogbia (if and when he goes). brum are showing us how to develop a club. well done alex mccleish. a high profile signing leads to another, the snowball effect.

I'm gonna reserve judgement until I've seen how he goes on. In most of the Liga games that I've seen he's been far from impressive. Just the opposite, in fact. He never looks terribly mobile, doesn't seem to put himself about much, is 6' 8" tall but doesn't seem to win too many headers unless you're prcise enough to put them slap, bang on his bonce. Against that, when he's had good playing time at Santander his scoring record was good, even if his performances (the couple I saw) still weren't up to much. Jury's out for me. It will be interesting to see.

The most depressing thing about this thread is that we've seen it all before. It's like Waiting for Godot, or in this case Waiting for Zigic/Jones/ etc.
TP is good at many things but not at buying forwards or creative midfielders. Fact.
If the so-called mama role is the key then he needs to go all out to get the best available for it. Home or abroad. It's not as if it's fashionable with many clubs. If we want to be a niche player then lets be serious about it. Otherwise let's change it!!
As for mountains and Chief Execs, TP does need to be visible now and sort out the mess behind the scenes that he left at the bottom of Kilimanjaro. TS needs to do his job. Whoever said on here that he must earn more than £80K is hugely underestimating his salary.
Finally, what do Kemp/Parsons/Rudge do?. The first two actually spend most of their time travelling the world. What recommendations has Terry Robinson made about this in his "root and branch" review? Too many chiefs not enough output in my opinion.

Where does this leave us in the target man stakes though?
£10m+ , £50k-a-week+ and probably out of reach Crouch Jones Cole
Ridiculously overpriced but potentially available at big, big money Santa Cruz
£6-8m, £40k-a-week and probably not available Carroll Zamora
Too important to sell? K.Davies
Available? Heskey Hulse Fletcher (but only at ridiculous price)
Not suited to role and expensive? Yakubu Rodallega Jerome
Abroad?
Zigic ?

Agreed- we REALLY need someone at the club who can hustle and make some deals- it seems like it's an obvious weakness at our club, despite our strengths with peter Reid and Gerry Francis (if you will).

Why? cause we are conducting business on a sound footing and its not transfer deadline yet so i don't think it's panic time! yeah, we've only been after him (allegedly) for 2 seasons Have we? We apparently made a loan move 18 months ago but absolutely nothing to prove we ever followed it up 'Well this shows how small time we really are in the midlands and prem' Garbage...............surely the same can be said of Villa by your amazing theory as they obviously weren't interested either?

Tony Scholes went to Spain to try and sort a deal. Surely that shows how interested we were?

Villa made an enquiry as well previously, Bayern. My point was that our alleged interest was 18 months ago on loan so for someone to say that we've been chasing him for two years is based on what?
Where did I say we weren't interested previously? Again................please quote me on that

Either :
Stoke are too unknown to him Stoke won't pay his 60k weekly wage. We are aiming ur targets higher. We have to sell before we can buy. Valencia are still miffed we beat them 1-0 a few seasons ago in pre season. Tony Scholes is a utter, utter tosser. He's unhappy with the way Stoke go about playing their football.
Take your pick, but i'm more than certain Stoke have done everything in their powers to sign him up.

So the constand press links, him seemingly to be an ideal player and the CEO going to Spain aren't enough?
It all adds to us being after him in some form for at least 12 months and maybe into January this year. Now we obviously think we can sign better. I won't hold my breath.
