When you consider how the Oatcake was conceived, born and all it came to represent, I find some of the preceding comments as depressing as the late eighties itself. Sheikhy, It came about as a result of chronic under-investment and a lack of ambition in the club. It's primary role was to provide a voice for supporters who otherwise had no way of genuinely having a say. Well, we can hardly complain about any under investment these days can we, so what battles are there to fight there. It still remains a voice for supporters (hence this message board which you use). As for the printed version, we have not yet received even one email or letter complaining about the Platinum Scheme. Thus if we went flying off the handle about it, we'd be in just as much danger as misrepresenting majority opinion as we could be by not sticking the boot into it. I get the feeling you'd prefer a lie you agree with than an honest opinion you don't?

I'd prefer some honesty and professionalism from the club Smudge, not a half baked scheme cobbled together on the back of a fag packet, wrapped in marketing babble buried under a host of other news on the same day it was released. I'd prefer a scheme by which loyalty is rewarded, not taxed. I'd like the club to stop treating its supporters like idiots.
I obviously trust what you say about your mailbag, smudge but you can't say that the scheme and the way it has been implemented hasn't left a fair few maybe even a majority of fans with a bad taste at what you rightly point out are glorious times.
I accept your honest opinion but I feel that these fantastic times to be a stokie have blinded you to some fairly obvious breaches of equity, trust and basic honesty by the club on this issue.

Sheikhy, If you've read my other posts you'll see that I'm not saying I agree with the scheme, and I certainly think it's been implemented in a slip-shod and amateurish way that does the club no great credit at all. In the greater scheme of things though, and against a backdrop of all that this club has done over the past four years I'm just saying I can let this one thing slide without getting too worked up about it. Just as you (rightly IMHO) berate those who're on the manager's back for for any slip-up on the field, I'll accept this thing as a one -off. If it's the thin end of a wedge that's coming in then I'd have to think again. There is simply no system that is going to be totally fair and so we have to do get on with what we have. That's just how I feel about this particular scheme in the current situation we find ourselves in. The fanzine remains there though for anyone who disagrees. All views are welcome. I'd rather not have the Platinum Scheme but if the club want £30 or £50 for me to join a membership scheme for away games then I'll go along with it. It's not the first thing they've got me to join, money-making or otherwise.

For what it's worth Momo (and I know that very often we don't see eye to eye on all things Scholes) I think that's an absolutely cracking post ... it pretty much covers every point in just a few well constructed sentences.

The impact the Platiplus is going to have on most away games is negligble. I can't believe people are still griping about this one! I'd rather still be moaning about how Man City robbed us of 2 points.
