With my Vagrant following neighbour. Thought I would offer a little bit of financial support to our poorer neighbours. Wont be doing that again in a hurry. Saw a new white Mercedes convertible enter the players car park. Thought it may be royalty visiting to lend a hand. No out gets Mark Richards according to my neighbour. Poor Vale? I dont think so.

So on that basis you're assuming that Vale have millions stashed away somewhere? Pfft. Marc (not Mark) Richards has been around a bit and has previously had much better paid jobs at Blackburn, Northampton and Barnsley, amongst others. He took quite a cut to sign for the Vale and he's never been flash with his money in the past. So he's got a nice car (if it is his) - so what? Good lad is Marc.

OK I admit it. Like some of the older posters on here I used to go to both Stoke AND Vale on alternating Saturdays. Stoke because they were my team and the Vale? Well for a bit of a laugh and a lads day out TBH when there wasn't much else to do on Saturdays in the 70's.

I was listening to radio stoke last night and it was a love in for the vale fans, talking about the atmosphere and the fact that over 5,000 turned up to support their club. On top of that you had fans ringing in patting themselves on the back about how good their support was last night and the pride they showed. The ironic thing is that those fans that stayed away for the last 18 months are in part responsible for the huge loss in earnings for the club. Ultimately those 2 campaigns, starve them out and black and gold have contributed to them going into administration and probably cost them a good chance of getting promoted. Idiots.

I think the two campaigns you talk about may have had a small effect on the club financially but there's no way they would amount to the £4m being bandied about as Vale's total debt liabilities. If anything I'm surprised they managed to hold out this long without additional investment or some kind of financial restructuring.

If the Vale cease to exist then who would everyone hate instead?
I have been a Stokie all my life & have no particular love for the Vale but i think it is a sad day when any clubs teeters on the brink of extinction, after all, it could have been us a few years ago.
I would hate for us to turn into a bunch of " don't give a shit about the rest of the leagues, only the bigger clubs matter " brigade like the bin dippers for example.
You don't have to love or even like the Vale to see that its football in general that is suffering when clubs go down the pipe. i no they probably wouldn't give us the shit from there shoes, but come on lads, we are better than that.
We have a local rival, a derby game ( as rare as it is ) & that is part of what makes our sport great, i for one would be sad to see them go & don't feel the need to direct hatred to a club that are not even on the same planet as us both sportingly & financially.
We should also ask ourselves, would Sir Stan want the Vale to fold?

Very true but clubs like Vale rely on fans turing up to keep cashflow going, and a shortfall of say 1000 fans off every home game at £20 a pop would of at least kept the wolf from the door for a while longer had those fans turned up and supported their team. Especially at a time when it seems as though on the pitch they werent doing too badly.

Possibly - but in this area and in this economic climate I think your estimate of an additional 1000 through the gate might be pushing it. It might have just delayed the inevitable but how the hell did a club with their turnover manage to incur £4m of debt without the alarm bells sounding ages ago?

We should also ask ourselves, would Sir Stan want the Vale to fold? Pretty neutral towards the Vale to be honest, despite any close experience of most of them being negative. But then again, we have some tools ourselves, as does any club. What you have to think is - Stoke-on-Trent is the smallest English city to support 2 professional football clubs - and those clubs have been round for a long time between them. If one dies, it leaves a hole in the area and the lives of the fans that support it. There's probably some snappy Zen one-liner for this, but sometimes, instead of taking the same attitude as your enemy ("F*ck em they wouldn't help us"), it's better to actually rise above it and prove you are a better person by helping them. Yes, they have some idiots I know, but empty vessels and all that. What about the many normal fans who just want to watch their team on a Saturday and get on with life - like most of us? It's down to them now anyway - the stay away campaigns have backfired in some respects and only by turning up and putting cash in the coffers can they keep their heads above water. From the outside, it's a shame that a 10 point deduction will put them mid-table - outside the play-offs and outside any chance of maybe getting promoted to a division with some bigger clubs and bigger paydays. No wonder Micky Adams sounded so down about the whole thing.

It might have just delayed the inevitable but how the hell did a club with their turnover manage to incur £4m of debt without the alarm bells sounding ages ago? I base that purely on the fact 5000 turned up last night and previously gates were 4000 or below. But thats exactly all it would of done, just delay the inevitable. But at least installments on loans could have been repaid and players wages for a little longer. But its a poor state to be in and that 4m is the total sum of their loans and the other outstanding bills, it only becomes a problem once they cant make the installment payments on them. On another note it just shows the huge gulf between the prem and clubs like vale. The prize money for finishing another 2 or 3 places higher in the premier league could probably buy the Vale outright!

I haven't seen any actual breakdown of the figures but when £4m was mentioned my first reaction was disbelief. Some decent Championship clubs trading on an even keel might be struggling to carry that debt burden. We'll have to see what comes out in the wash - if it ever does!

Can you actually imagine being a Vale fan? Well first of all it is bad enough being a Vale fan. Then your rivals, who are from the same city are in the Prem. When only a few years ago (more than 12 years where did that go?) you were in a higher division! Now you're £4 million pound in debt and Stoke had probably £20 million worth of players on the Bench on Satdee! You can't even watch Match of the Day anymore for that bit of escapism but when you do your only comfort is commenting "I bet Stoke are on last...cuz they're wank" Oh and you're local derby match is against Crwho!

It's a shame we didn't don our colours and pack their ground out as the publicity and revenue generated would prove what a wonderful bunch the people of the potteries truly are. As apposed to the backward knuckle dragging mongoloids that the rest of the country accuse us of being.
