I think Steven Kinnock always sounds like a decent voice of reason and may make a good Labour leader Steven Kinnock has about as much personality as a paper bag. Rebecca Long Bailey has absolutely no grasp of policy. Just listen to Andrew Neil eviscorate her. I'd go for Gloria de Piero.. Every fucking day of the week π Me, too.

Rebecca Long-Bailey would get my vote. She seems to talk less nonsense than the rest and less baggage. Wrong Daily the female Burgon a walking talking soundbite machine pick her and 2024 is done already. Looking at the list it says something that Lisa I could vote for a brexit deal but just not this one Nandy looks like a leading candidate. I wonder if her about turn coincides with her job being safe now?

Thornberry is the one who took the piss out of working class people putting England flags up outside their home. If Labour wanted a true representation of what they stand for, then she'd be perfect. Not sure they'd get many votes though. Also, she's thick as pigshit and the perfect example of female privilege. That is - there's no way she would have got the job if she were a bloke. She's dreadful and everything I dislike about some parts of labour at the minute. If you're saying there's some sort of 'female privilege' where she's only got a job because she's female, in the same nation that Boris Johnson can become the actual PM then I'm not really sure how to react to that. Ah, Boris Johnson who has completely outmanoeuvred Labour in the election? He's shown himself a far superior politician than Thornberry. He's won working class voters, whereas she's lost them.

Lots of reasons for Labour's disastrous result but at the top of the list was Corbyn himself. My very tribal Labour relatives were canvassing in the Derbyshire North East, Chesterfield and Bolsover constituencies and he was so unpopular on the doorstep that they were resorting to a 'forget the leadership, focus on the policies' strategy. The party's Brexit policy was also a huge mistake - they either needed to sell a customs union style plan strongly or back remaining full heartedly. The middle ground scenario pleased noone and just looked weak. The manifesto was way too scattergun as well. They'd have been better off focusing on some core issues like the NHS, Social Care, Low pay etc. Do we really need a mass of nationalisations right now? It felt like a distraction and something that could be looked at in a second term. Moving forward, the concern now is that Labour pick a female Corbyn clone and carry on like nothing has happened. If they don't connect with the traditional working class, it's game over from the start. Also, the party and it's supporters needs to stop treating Tory voters with absolute disdain. People are entitled to vote however they like, it's down to the Labour Party to convince them they're wrong - ranting and raving is more likely to result in a vote being lost permanently. Spot on.

It would be political suicide not to. They haven't given two sacks of cum about places like Stoke for the past 9 years. What changes now? They hold the seats. They won't keep them if they don't do anything for the people in those seats. Self preservation.

Why any fucker thinks Johnson and his right wing agenda of poor hating cuts will work for Stoke still baffles me to be honest. I think you'll see a very different Boris Johnson in the next 5 years to the evil right wing dictator that the Guardian and the BBC portrays. Love him or loathe him, he's a pretty intelligent bloke who knows that with the right investment and attention, he will keep the North on side for many years to come. It would be political suicide not to.

Ms Nandy made a number of proposals - including moving the party's headquarters out of London - to help "rebuild that coalition" between "the Lewishams and the Leighs", and to regain a Labour Party that "speaks for both". I agree. If kids want to come out of uni straight into party headquarters surely being based in Leeds would open up their eyes instead of the south bubble I thought she spoke well. Of course, Anvil Face prefers idiots like Burgon and Butler, because they are from the preferred "wing" of the party. Even she virtue signals a bit too much for me, but she's leagues above those two.

Not sure about that, mate. There certainly wont be another Corbyn type figure on the ballot, they wont get the 21 MP's required. I think a lot of people are overcomplicating it. They just need to elect a credible LEADER who can speak well, coherently and OPPOSE with no major skeletons in the closet. That in itself will be a vast improvement. The centre ground wins elections so you need to get as close to that as possible while still maintaining some left wing policies and ideals. I think certain things such as immigration and security require a right wing stance while social issues require a left wing stance in order to appeal to the masses. Spot on, especially the last line.

The Future of the Left is a continuation of Corbynism because Momentum have established total control of Labourβs structures. A Corbyn acolyte will be elected leader, the policies will be unchanged. Whether that gains traction with the electorate is a different question. That's the problem isn't it. What should be Labour's great strength, the largest political party membership in Europe, is in fact their great weakness. So what happens next is the MP's put up 4 or 5 candidates for leader ensuring there is a range from the left/centre and right of the party and the members and trade unions choose one. That's how Corbyn got in, the MP's only realised there was no one from the left of the party at the last minute and stuck Corbyn on the ticket and, guess what, the momentum purists only went and chose him! Must be a good chance the same kind of thing will happen again one would imagine. If it does then the danger is they become like the socialists in France, little more than a well intentioned debating club. The only way I can see it getting fixed is if the rules change so the MP's have more influence in the actual choice rather than just putting up the options. It is after all they and not the members who face off to the electorate. That's why McDonnell couldn't bring himself to acknowledge Nandy as a viable choice on the Andrew Marr show.

Genuine question now that I've just seen the breakdown of what the elected constituencies would look like by age. Remarkable disparity. I'm currently 30 years of age, voted several times, a lot more than I should have done at my age given the state of the country in the past 10 years. Voted Lib Dem, Labour, Labour, Labour. I've not won a single election. Didn't win the referendum either. Never seen my football team win anything, nor my national team. Jesus I'm so fucking used to failure it's depressing yet has become expected π Anyway... 1. Has there always been this sort of a distinction between the generations in voting patterns and namely, the lack of representation of the younger generations in Westminster? By younger generations I guess I'm talking millennials and below (under 35ish). 2. When you were my age, did you feel the same way in that you were unrepresented and didn't really have a voice, and it was the older generations that held the cards? As I say, democracy is democracy and not undermining that whatsoever, just curious to hear from you older folk whether what we are currently seeing re: the levels of antagonism of the youth of today is unusual or not. It's nothing new, GH.

I to suffer from mental health and will be on medication for the rest of my life, when I joined the civil service in 2000 I was punching above my weight academically, my common sense and life experience carried me through to been one of the areas top performers, I was offered the opportunity to advance which was a massive mistake on my part the pressure almost caused a full blown mental breakdown, thankfully I managed to arrange an exit strategy before it went full blown. I worked under both Labour and the Tory's there was not a fag paper between either expectation under both were unrealistic, I can tell you neither gives a flying fuck about us minions, they are all privately educated Rupert's the only difference the Tory's don't try to hide it, I detest champagne socialism with a passion along with the jackbooted mongmentum bully boy's. Good luck with your mental health at least I was older in life when it struck me
Thank you. Yes, all the best, from a fellow sufferer.

Perhaps you should be asking why? And if you think that every Tory vote in SOT was made by white people, you're incredibly naive. For the record I've voted for Labour before (War-Marshall Blair in 97) but I would never vote for a Maomentum Quisling like Corbyn. I know why. 1. Brexit and Labour's policy on Brexit 2. Jeremy Corbyn Had there been any other leader in, they wouldn't have won with their Brexit policy, so that was the predominant reason. We also know this because Corbyn gained seats in 2017 when he campaigned to leave. However, even with a different Brexit policy, they still wouldn't have won. Corbyn seems to be disliked by many, and there is a feeling he is a poor leader. I agree with the latter and his failings in that respect with regard to anti-semitism and his Brexit stance hurt him massively. However, the former is largely driven by media vitriol and propaganda in my opinion. He's a decent man. I agree with most of that. The last two lines let it down. He's a fraud. Live and die by your principles, don't ditch them for power.
