Fair enough. I'll clarify that not all coppers are cowards. Some are brave and believe in the job they are doing. Others are frauds, and cowards and just want to hurt fairly innocent people. Unfortunately and fortunately mate coppers are representative of society. They display to best and worst of human traits and everything in between as well. I've seen em all. Spot on!! You get good and bad in every walk of life, and every occupation. My wife is a copper ( I'm not!), and she's the most caring individual I have ever met, as she wants to help people. I'd also extend that to all of her friends in the force too. Alas there are colleagues that they dislike as they are either lazy, bad at there job, or arrogant and unpleasant. And they give them all a bad name!! She particularly mentions traffic cops!!! Not all mind!!

You should post more andyp. Much missed. Berahino had a shockingly decent run out I thought, but dropping Bojan was both depressing and predictable. Toxic Avenger - Thanks for those very kind words. I was genuinely touched. I have kept my eye on the Oatcake Messageboard over the last few years but have been reluctant to post. There's a few reasons for this. I always thought that in order to have a valid opinion, or be able to analyse a situation properly, I needed first-hand experience of what had occurred. In other words to have been at a game. Due to personal circumstances I went about 5 years without actually attending a game, although I did attempt to watch as many as possible on live streams. I did attend a couple of games at the tail end of last season. I don't think the TV always gives a true picture of what has gone on because it focuses on a small area of the pitch, and being at a game you can see what players are doing off the ball / their positional sense (or lack of) etc. So I didn't feel I had the authority to comment. Secondly I became put off by the way this messageboard has changed over the years, frankly sometimes descending into little more than a stream of insults. I've always attempted to be balanced and put forward views that take into consideration empirical evidence / facts. I accept that not everyone will agree with one another, we all have opinions and that is perfectly fine. But I just found it depressing / discouraging to think I might post a lengthy analytical piece which while criticising Mark Hughes would also reflect on the positive aspects of his management tenure at Stoke (e.g. 3 finishes in 9th spot, highest number of points), only to risk someone basically respond with a one liner akin to "Hughes is a c*nt, you're a c*nt". So it didn't seem worth the effort, nor would it be helpful for my state of mind. I can take reasoned arguments against a position, I can't accept the slinging of personal insults. The messageboard also hasn't been the same for me since we tragically lost Winger. This season I went to the Leeds Utd game, I went to the Brentford home game, and yesterday I watched the Preston NE game via a webstream. I intend to be at the Hull game, all being well. So I feel a little bit more qualified to post on the messageboard at the moment. Because I live in walking distance of Elland Road, and it was just £15 to get in, I went with my adult step-son to watch Leeds v Bolton in the League Cup game last week. So I've seen Bojan first-hand, and I've seen how Samu Saiz ran the show for Leeds until he was subbed at which point Leeds looked more ordinary. The movement, link-up play, vision, clever passing, and creativity Saiz gives Leeds is exactly what I could foresee Bojan giving us. I thought the only area that Bojan was lacking was a willingness to shoot in good positions rather than looking for a too clever a ball to bring in a team-mate. Saiz is willing to have a go, and indeed scored against Bolton. If the coaches can work on that element of the game with Bojan I think we saw something already to suggest he could work well with Afobe. I was surprised and disappointed that Berahino replaced Bojan yesterday, but in fairness I thought he played pretty decently, and I haven't written him off completely. He could do well at this level if he keeps his mind / attitude right. I think it's a confidence thing. What is depressing is that Rowett is making comments that suggest starting with Crouch in the next game. For me Crouch can come on as an impact player if we need to change something and give a different option, but for him to be starting really tells a story about the squad we have and the poor, confidence-lacking, start to the season. I think we should be using a talent like Bojan and giving him a run in the team, and if he's knackered on 60-70 minutes then look to bring on Berahino or Crouch depending on what sort of attacking option we need. Excellent post mate.

If you think the website is shit try buying the actual newspaper. Compare the 70p Sentinel to the MEN which is given away for free in Manchester city centre and the Sentinel looks what it is, a tired and past it rag. Sadly I can't see the Sentinel being around in the not too distant future. I'm going back at least 25 years ago, but there was an old fella that sold the paper copy of the Sentinel around the Albion / bus station area of hanley, that would shout something incomprehensible every thirty seconds or so at the top of his voice. I believe what was said was " city final " as in the latest and last print of the day of the paper. Yet he made it sound like a bjork experimental piece....

I seem to remember a stoke player ( think it was pericard ? ) Had a tattoo of Chinese symbols ( when that was the fashion ) Only to find out it wasn't what he was trying to say in English ??? Forgot the details , completely !! My ex wife had a Chinese tattoo that translated into English read " free spirit of the night "! Only there was a slight spelling mistake and it actually translated as " free spirits all night ". She would often get followed around by drunk Chinese folk.....

I just gave my ex wife a mouthful because she rang me right at the end (before the goal) and got arsey because I told her that I’m watching the football... Haha, similarly my wife went to bed as she's not well and feeling quite sorry for herself, and came over to me to say good night looking for some sympathy. Unfortunately for her it was right when Kroos was lining up that free kick, and as I'd got all of my £14.20 on a Germany win with coral, I was like " yeah yeah niiiiight " thinking shift out of the way of the tele will you shug.... They deserved the win though from the second half performance. Well done. Pleased for you German Stokie, and me, and fuck you Coral!!!

I love the faux hope around this team Been watching world cups since 82 and this is the feeblest England team I've seen. No strong CB (Butcher/Adams/Terry etc), no Robson/Ince in centre midfield, no guile of Scholes/Beckham. Rashford looks lively, but we know he won't do it on the big stage. Kane will be hapless and Ali ineffectual as an AM against decent teams Verdict:- Last 16, at best. Trying to declutter the brain from Southgate's picks, its hard to know what team you could have picked that said (i find im putting those players back in there).... Think our comparative strengths are faster wide players.. Butland Alex-Arnold MacGuire Smalling Rose Henderson Ali Loftus Cheek Millner Sterling Kane Rashford Pickford, Shawcross/Lascelles, Trippier, Delph, Vardy, Sessegnon, D.GrayThat's 12 players yoth

She said : a divorce I said : I wasn't thinking of spending that much money Badda Bing

Stewart Lee is brilliant and I think Al Murray is a lovely chap but not as big a fan of his comedy. Where did it all go wrong, Leese? My only claim to very slight fame is that Martin Fry did English with me at Sheffield and Phil Oakey stayed in my student house when it was vacant over the Summer. So, a musical connection Stewart Lee is absolutely brilliant. Genius even. Al Murray too seems a lovely fella , but not as funny as Stewart Lee. I went to school in stoke with India Fisher , the voice of MasterChef . If that's any claim to fame I don't know ? 😀. He brother Ryhd and dad Mark the former Stoke MP are Stoke fans !! , And her half brother Crispin Hunt from 90's band the longpigs !!

Its been great while its lasted in the top division. But I'm not disheartened in the slightest. We're Stoke fans, not premier league fans. In fact the premier league has bored me to death for a while. If you're not a top six side, then nobody gives a monkeys. One sided refereeing decisions, meaningless claptrap from the "pundits" ( who used to play for a top six club). Hysterical about decisions that don't favour the big clubs, silent about ones that did and shouldn't have. Its complete bollocks. Can't wait for next season. The macari years were my favourite, as a Stokie, and we were in division 3!!

PC is a good man and felt Sparky deserved more time. I was also in that category and now see what a disaster it was not getting rid last May. Hughes unfortunately let us down badly and too much damage has been done for us to recover from. I’m sure PC and others inc me thought we could pull out of this hence his comment... ‘ I don’t know what all the fuss is about’ which I’m sure he now regrets. I wish their were more chairman with the intestinal fortitude of PC. Yes he has made mistakes but who hasn’t? It’s been 10 great years and hopefully we can complete the great escape but if we don’t it’s been one hell of a ride and we owe a lot to PC. I'm sure he does love the club, and yes through slightly gritted teeth, we do owe him our thanks. BUT, let's not forget that he's done fantasticly well out of the club, TWICE. And used it as a vehicle to promote his MAIN businesses. To my mind I think this mess were in unfortunately leads to him. The buck stops with him and his decisions.

I can't see how your table ended up pyrus unfortunately it won't let me open it. But having just done the calculator, we end up 16th on 37 points. With baggies, Southampton and Brighton going down. I was very strict on us, however I had us beating Burnley, palace and Swansea on the last day ( big ask), and a draw with Everton. All the rest were tonkings. Maybe we can just make it?

[quote author=" smallthorner" source="/post/5891485/thread" Think that's a good summary. Nobody knows how this is going to turn out.... nobody. We all spout sh*t on here as if we've got the slightest inkling of what goes in the management of a prima donna premiership football club. I'd luuuv Lambo to be our saviour and uniter and bring some spirit and bollocks to our team and supporters. Macari like ..... Daft dream? Maybe. But it would be lovely for him to get our show back on the road. Cheap appointment? Easy appointment? Maybe, but let's give the guy a chance. Sparky did a great job and went off the rails.. as most managers do eventually, step up Lamboner.[/quote] Exactly mate. Still feel the board are tight arses , but that's not lambo's fault . If he's half as good as Macari , that'd be great !!!

He probably wouldn't have appeared on many peoples list if they were honest Dave, but he's here now and we most hope/pray that it turns out to be an inspired choice!!!. He's talking a good game thus far and let's hope it transmits to the pitch. I am cautiously optimistic. Same here ginger, was feeling distinctly underwhelmed at the outset. Then our marvelous supporters at old Trafford have shown the way and given me a bit of belief. Now the dust has settled , I'm quite optimistic and certainly excited by it. Who knows ? They may be just a chemistry , and something clicks ! Of course it could equally also be quite foreboding ? I dunno , I've got a good feeling about it . Welcome Stafylidis by the way . Goarn stoke.

It is Lambert apparently. I give up with this shit now. Absolutely wank. I’d rather potter got a chance at it than this cunt. Major problems at boardroom level, coates senior is losing the plot. Phew !! That's a relief. It's definitely not going to be Lambert then.

Let’s just be patient. There is a lot of water still to flow under the bridge. It's nice to see that you're on board with this potential appointment March. That's why it simply MUST happen as it'll galvanize 99.9 % of the supporters. Something that hasn't been the case since the Macari era perhaps ?
