Absolutely gutted - but loads of positives between the penalty boxes. Sadly that's not where games are won and lost.
There's nothing to build around in defence or , really, the front three.
At least Hoever has played himself decisively out of the team.
Even with all those deficiencies that you can see from space we win that game 7 times out of 10, 2 draws and a loss in the other.
Their goals were from a gift and a 1-in-20 free-kick.
Battled to the end in a way that hasn't been the case much in recent seasons.
We know the deficiencies we've got in defence and the lack of a goalscorers, but it's nice to see Burger and Bae flourishing and becoming genuine class acts. I can't remember the last time I walked back after a defeat with a bit of a spring in my step, but for some reason I did today

This seems to Phil Rawlins' son - who supports both teams. Why are we looking at another player who’s likely to struggle with the physicality of the league FFS. Seems like the type who could quite quickly get up to speed though as he gets stronger and fitter. 6' 1" - and that was his first season out of college, so he'll still be raw.

As the striker though? Seems we’re built for the striker often dropping deep as a playmaker and the wingers being the pace merchants? (Like the vast majority of good teams nowadays to be fair) Don't we already have this kind of player in Mmaee, Wesley and Lowe? We need pace! I think in a 4-3-3 type set-up, though, it's quite rare (certainly in our price range) that you can find a player that can do all the physical, hold-up side to the job - which is probably the most important part - and get his quota of goals - and then offer blistering pace on top as the central No.9 striker. The pace tends to come from the 2 wider positions.

Yeah, interesting link Seems like he gets 12 points which doesn't get him an automatic permit, but is an arguable case? www.transferroom.com/gbe#calculatortheathletic.com/5177729/2024/01/04/mls-january-transfer-window/Duncan McGuire Orlando City breakout forward Duncan McGuire went from college soccer to the U.S. U-23 national team over the course of a year. He may soon be on his way to Europe, but Orlando wants to keep the striker Blackburn has had two loan bids rejected and is expected to return with a third, sources said. French club FC Nantes is also interested, but has yet to place a bid. Dutch side FC Utrecht had looked into a deal but that pursuit is inactive. The group that owns Lyon and RWD Molenbeek in Belgium is interested as well, and would likely look to sign McGuire to Molenbeek if serious talks materialized. McGuire and Orlando are also in talks over a new contract amidst this. The 22-year-old is likely to be on the United States squad at the Olympics this summer. He had 15 goals and three assists across 1,930 minutes across all competitions in his debut professional season.

Wonder what the total value of our recent loan signings is:
Carter-Vickers Harwood-Bellis Philogene Clarke Delap Sima Ostigard
That's the problem with loans - you ripen them for someone else.

Young lad from Serbia on a long term deal. He’s hardly going to be starting games. Getting on the bench shows what the management team think of his quality. Hopefully a shrewd move that will blossom in the next year or so I think that says how special a talent Bae is. It’s a huge challenge for a foreign player. Yeah, it really does. Same age, similar lack of experience, similar alien environment. And he's taking to it like a duck to water.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfer-steven-schumacher-9044403Pace and hunger on Steven Schumacher's Stoke City transfer checklist“I think you can see there are areas in the squad we would like to strengthen but the overriding characteristic for any player we bring to the club in this window or future window is that they are willing to learn, willing to try to get better. We need players who are hungry, players who are going on an upward trajectory in their career, if we can, and, with that, bring some energy, some speed to the team. That will be vital. Most importantly, a good attitude, someone who will come here and think, ‘I’m not at the top of my game, I want to get better’.” “As I’ve said before, we don’t want to just bring in people for the sake of it. We're only trying to bring in people if we feel as though it's going to improve the squad and improve what we've already got. “So the work is ongoing, it’s definitely not stopped. We’re not sitting here saying that we’re finished in January, that’s it. But it has to be the right sort of player and the right sort of person if you want to bring them to the club and not just want to waste money and make a signing for the sake of it. We need to make sure that we get that recruitment right.”

We're in an odd position though aren't we with the front line? Who's going to actually leave? Gayle and Wesley aren't. Campbell will probably wait to the summer. Haks won't go anywhere. We've got enough to stay up. And don't have the room to manouvre to get the depth to fully attack the play offs. So a project makes sense? He gets up to speed for 5 months and is then ready to go next season. Gayle, Wesley and Haks definitely go. Campbell almost certainly leaves. It leaves you with: Number 10s - Junho and Johnson Wing options - Junho, Leris, Vidigal and this dude Strikers - Mmaee, Tezgel, Lowe I'd still hope we'd get rid of Leris and improve there. He looks decently two-footed to be fair. And don't forget Jojic! You've just got to get the project-to-surer thing ratio right. With Jojic, that could be £2m on two very definite projects. And Lowe and Tezgel are obviously still players who may not have careers at this level. We spent about £1.2m combined on Vidigal and Leris, and it's still unclear whether they'll still be in the team this time next year. So it is a minefield when you're buying at this kind of level As you say, though, from the summer, the front three stocks are very bare and ripe for a refresh. We definitely need a surer thing to play wide over the summer, even if this guy were to arrive, you'd think.

According to that article, he could play on the left as an orthodox left winger - but his main role has been as an inverted, left-footed right winger.
And we did spend £1m on another 20 year-old project in the summer who plays there.

I wonder why there's a few championship teams keen on him then?... must have something about him but Poku is who I want. Yeah, he must have something if Spurs offered him a deal last summer. www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/tottenham-contract-race-promotion-transfer-26614926And it looks like he was quite well thought of. Just seems more of a project player who'll take a while to really threaten the first team, and until they've proven anything in the senior game always the chance they could be another Oakley-Boothe

www.skysports.com/transfer-centreStandard Liege reject Swans' Mundle bidLatest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas: Swansea have had a bid of under £500,000 rejected by Standard Liege for Romaine Mundle. The ex-Tottenham winger is of interest to a number of Championship clubs including Stoke and Plymouth. The Swans are considering whether to follow up with another offer for the 20-year-old, who left Spurs' academy to join Standard last summer.

Indicates LB not a priority this Jan? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-bae-junho-thompson-9043954“I wouldn’t say he’s filling in,” said Schumacher. “I think that position and the way we ask the full-back to play lends itself to a central midfield player or a midfield player, being able to handle the ball in there. He’s done really well. “Defensively Jordan competes, he's aggressive. He's really good in one-on-one situations and he's really comfortable on the ball and going in the middle of the pitch because that's where he's been used to playing for the majority of his career. “He’s doing really well, I’ve been really impressed with him in all the games that he’s played. He played in midfield for us against Birmingham last time we played them and he did really well then too. If he plays full-back this weekend then I’m sure he’ll do well again.”

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-bae-junho-thompson-9043954“He's a bit different because he can play anywhere,” said the head coach. “He could play in the wide positions, he can play as an eight. I wouldn't see him as being a holding midfield player – and not left-back just yet! – but he’s talented, he’s got real quality and good energy as well and he can go past people. “I’ve been speaking to Junho and trying to get the message across to him about being a bit more clinical, making the right pass in the final third because that’s all he’s missing in his game, one or two goals or assists, but that will come. We forget he’s still such a young player.” “He's great. He's always smiling. I’m not too sure he always understands me fully but you can pull him to one side and show him differently, go through video clips and information on the tactics board if we can. He’s great.”
