Little bit deflating, but not unexpected. Wonder if it's an overseas winger/striker loan we've still got a sniff of (and hopefully it wasn't Mundle) Would we aim to send a loanee back so we don't have to leave someone out of the 20 if we're successful in this chase? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/what-expect-stoke-city-before-9066675Stoke have now got five loanees, the maximum number allowed for any match day squad. They are allowed more – and had seven in the second half of last season – and could decide to negotiate the early return of a current loanee.

Could this pave the way for a Poku move to Stoke? www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/peterborough-united-star-ruled-out-for-more-league-one-games-4497364He's out for 3 more games by the looks of it - but this guy seems too good to sit on a League One bench, so maybe one to watch. www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/peterborough-united-have-rejected-bids-for-players-worth-millions-in-the-january-transfer-window-4490063According to Posh director of football Barry Fry, chairman Darragh MacAnthony has refused to cash in on highly-rated forwards Ephron Mason-Clark, Kwame Poku, Ricky-Jade Jones and Joel Randall despite plenty of interest from higher level clubs. No club has yet to reach the Posh valuation of star defender Ronnie Edwards either which is good news for those who believe the 20 year-old is key to the club’s return to the Championship. " The chairman has been brilliant so fair play to him. We have been getting a lot of bids for lots of players and he’s turned the lot down. "They would have been worth millions to the club, but we believe we will never have a better chance of getting out of League One than this season and we want to keep this squad together. “Financial fair play remains an issue for many clubs which might be good news for us, although we will honour our word to Ronnie Edwards should a club get to our valuation. Club captain Harrison Burrows is another player to have attracted interest in this transfer window, but Posh are in no rush to cash in on a consistent young player.

I know its one thing identifying players, but if Tricky and Jared havent got a good list of players who would make a difference what the hell have they been doing since August. They presented Schuey with a 10 page dossier on his second day at the club. Lord only knows what players were on it though. Assuming Iversen was as he's been a target for ages and I reckon Cundle wasn't. It must have been in very big print to fill 10 pages!

McGuire won’t qualify for a work permit to play in England via Governing Body Endorsement, however Wednesday do have an Elite Significant Contribution slot available for him should they be able to get a deal done. Shame it looks like we wasted our slots on the likes of Jojic, Leris and Wes McGuire might be absolutely mustard and it could be a shame that we’re missing out on him but my feeling is that the next striker we get has to be young, hungry but also properly acclimatised to Championship football. Our best central striker in terms of all round play in recent times has probably been Steven Fletcher but even he was hardly prolific. Surridge got on the end of plenty of chances but struggled to convert and by all accounts wasn’t settled. Maja never really looked the part, it doesn’t seem like he’s pulling up any trees at West Brom at the moment either. Delap didnt look comy at this level when first exposed to it as a raw talent, seemingly finding that first season a bit too much at Stoke and Preston. Gayle and Wesley are aging and have been pretty much useless. Mmaee hasn’t hit the ground running in the way it was probably hoped. I’m ready to wash my hands of Campbell as he’s prone to injury and despite his talent he’s never demonstrated the type of consistency that we need to be able to rely on. Can we find a young central striker that isn’t too much of a gamble and we’re reasonably confident can step into the side without needing time to adjust? It’s a big ask and one for the summer probably but that’s where we should be looking for our next significant outlay. Yeah, there aren't any easy answers, especially in the January market. I get the argument about sitting on our hands and waiting for the better value and greater options in the summer - and that'll probably be what happens. Although relegation isn't as outlandish as it was a fortnight ago, it almost certainly isn't going to happen. But the thought of muddling through the 4 remaining months of the season with this lot - who only Exeter and Fleetwood have scored fewer home goals than - is thoroughly depressing and there won't be much feelgood factor generated going into the summer if we continue to have the goal power of a comatose guinea pig and throw points down the toilet in ever more stupid ways. And as we saw with Neil, that can often lead to bad things for the next season.

theathletic.com/live-blogs/mls-usmnt-news-live/EK7B4IZVEEfX/JywgaraRDrOK/English club Blackburn Rovers and Danish side FC Midtjylland are pursuing Orlando City and U.S. national team forward Duncan McGuire, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic. The two clubs will be the favorites to land McGuire if a deal gets done before the end of the January window. The Athletic previously reported Sheffield Wednesday had a bid rejected for McGuire. Blackburn previously had a pair of loan with purchase option offers declined by Orlando but the club is coming back to try to secure a permanent deal. Midtjylland have had McGuire on their radar since he broke into Orlando’s starting XI last year. Nothing is agreed but would have to move quickly with the transfer window in England closing Thursday and McGuire is in Mexico in preseason with Orlando.

I don't know why people actually engage with anyone remotely famous on twitter. There's only really two tactics - arse-licking and abuse, and they're both a bit embarrassing
Gooch was shocking on Saturday - but that was mainly because he was isolated against a very good player, and he's not really a defender.
One thing you can never accuse him of is a lack of effort and drive.
It does highlight what a car crash we are in the full-back positions though (especially in Tchamadeu's absence), and I'm not sure (as generally positive as Gooch has been) where he's really going to figure regularly in the longer-term. He's not solid enough to really be full-back and not creative/goalsy enough to play on the wing, making approaching £1m a bit steep for a squad man in this Championship environment.
With all that, he's probably our 4th best signing of the summer, and not sure if that says more about him or our window.

EXCLUSIVE | KAYSERISPOR ❤️💛 Kayserispor, which is preparing to open the transfer window, is seriously interested in Stoke City's 28-year-old midfielder Lewis Baker. The British star, who previously played for Trabzonspor in our country, is looking forward to being transferred to Kayserispor. You know it's slow when i'm excited about a Turkish rumour! There won't be much money involved if the Turks are involved Considering stuff in their main papers with 5m followers is completely made-up, think we can be fairly sure stuff from a random account with a few hundred followers is probably finest Turkish horse manure. I wouldn't be against it though - so kind of hope it's true to start clearing the mediocrity out

Probably fair to say there are only 3 success stories so far. Don't now how many it's reasonable to expect from 20+. You'd hope for another 2-3 though. Excellent Burger 4 Bae 2 Tchamadeu 1 Good/ok Gooch 1 Travers loan Too early to say/leaning on worrying side Mmaee 1.5(ish) - Haven't completely given up on him, because he's got ability. But it'd be a surprise if he turned it around dramatically from here. McNally loan - obvs nowhere near as good as Cov fans had suggested in his time here Cundle loan - must be more to him than we've seen Iversen loan - maybe harsh, hasn't done anything outrageously bad. But hasn't done anything particularly impressive Rose free - just a relief we didn't buy him for 750k last Jan. Passable as cover Pearson 500k. Vidigal - 500k. Going backwards Looking worrying Jojic 1m (ish) Maybe harsh. But £1m signings are always going to come with a bit more scrutiny. Leris 800k - if he's remotely a fit for a 4-3-3, I'm a Dutchman Stevens free Johnson free Hoever loan Haksabanovic loan Wesley free Clark free I know I’m probably on my own here but I wouldn’t be putting Junho in the excellent category. Swap cute Korean kid for average British looking lad with a standard British name and I don’t think we’d be raving about him. He’s been played as either an AM or winger and is yet to score a goal. Sure, there’s potential, but not excellent for me. I probably wouldn’t have Tchamadeu there either, but if he’d been played from the start of the season as he should have been I probably would. Time will tell, but I think you can almost instantly tell with some players - and I think it's pretty obvious that those two will be leaving us out the front door, rather than the back door. Look at Bae's adaptation compared to the similarly inexperienced fish-out-of-water in Jojic. Bae's graph is basically going straight up. His quality and attitude is just obvious. I'd be surprised if he's still a Stoke player at the start of 2025/6 and he hasn't gone for £10m+.

www.eadt.co.uk/sport/24080759.ipswich-town-close-ali-al-hamadi-signing/Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi. We understand that a fee of just over £1m with various add-ons has now been reached and that the Iraqi international, who is currently away at the Asian Cup, passed a medical in Qatar over the weekend. It's understood that other clubs tried to hijack the deal late in the day, but that the player had his heart set on joining Kieran McKenna's Championship high-fliers after being pitched the project.

Armstrong is a left forward mate but I agree it seems centre forwards are not scoring many Oh is he, another one then scoring goals from wide positions. So we all crave this 15+ a season striker but they literally don't exist anymore. What we need to do is find the wide forward who can reach those numbers. That's what baffles me about the signings of Vidigal, and particularly Leris - based on their career records Leris is about as much a goalscorer as Ben Wilmot

I like Thompson, but his limitations were certainly exposed Saturday. Stevens despite being fit, can't even make the matchday squad. I don't think we'll ever get the reasoning why they believed going in to a season with just him at left back, considering his age and injury issues was seen as a good idea. It's so negligent it's beyond belief! The only left-back in the squad can't get into the matchday 20 Perfectly normal state of affairs!

re Abu Kamara - strange his name came out if there'd been no mechanism to facilitate a move elsewhere for a fortnight? You'd think there'd be a way that Norwich could sell their asset if they wanted to - but presumably there'd have to be a way for them to break their loan contract first. And Pompey seem adamant there isn't - there'll certainly be egg on faces if that's not the case. www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/portsmouth-fc/pompey-portsmouth-leicester-city-norwich-city-stoke-city-brentford-4495926The News understands, however, the recall clause built into Kamara’s loan stay at PO4 passed on January 15 - meaning he is definitely staying put. Mousinho confirmed there was no way the exciting talent is able to leave Pompey this month. He said: ‘There’s no recall from Norwich. As far as I’m concerned that date has past and we’ve heard nothing from Norwich - Abu is going to be a Portsmouth player for the rest of the season.’ ‘Norwich have been brilliant - first of all by letting us have the player, who they rate really highly. ‘We are then in constant communication with them about Abs, his progress and how well he’s done. ‘The plan for us is to return him to Norwich at the end of the season ready to be a Championship player. We love him and think he’s brilliant. ‘That’s all we can do at this stage - keep him fit and firing for the rest of the season.’ Can't remember this stage of a window, when we're on record as wanting players, with such non-existent links. Mundle looks a pretty weak link, and McGuire has gone cold, if it was ever warm. Nothing on left-backs or centre-backs either.

www.thestar.co.uk//sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/sheffield-wednesday-submit-final-striker-bid-as-owls-target-makes-contract-decision-4495890The Star reported today that the Owls were preparing a third offer for the striker in their hunt for new additions, with Wednesday having had their first two bids knocked back by the Major Soccer League outfit. It’s understood that McGuire’s current club have been in talks with the 22-year-old regarding an extension of his time in Florida, but The Star is led to believe that those talks have now reached an impasse after player informed them that he would not be signing a new deal as he sought a move overseas. The news will come as a boost to Owls boss, Danny Röhl, given how highly he rates the young forward McGuire is currently in Mexico as The Lions continue their preparations for the upcoming campaign, however there is now renewed hope for Wednesday that they might be able to get a deal done before the deadline closes on February 1, and though other clubs in England are interested it is thought now that - if he is to leave - it may well be Wednesday that win the race for his signature. Though it is thought that their most recent bid will be their final offer.
