totally gutted !!
the reason we havent won away from home is because of the negative tactics .
you cant play against world class players and sit back for 90 mins !! sooner or later they will punish you . its not rocket science !!
possesion ----- chelsea 72% --- stoke 28% total shots ---- chelsea 29 ------ stoke 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we had the game today there for the taking at 1 up and blew it !!

We were 4 minutes away from winning FFS!!!
Pulis tactics would have been the best thing since sliced bread if we had hung on for the win.
Some people are so fickle.

We didn't SIT back, we were PUSHED back by the most expensive and talented team of INTERNATIONALS in the bloody world. Very, very unluckly today, but it does show that we should be more than capable of beating lesser teams and staying up.

Seriously, if we had pushed any more forward; it would have been an absolute thrashing.
In fact, im not gonna even argue that fact. Obviously you're just a wind up merchant.

Muppet!! btw, as much as i love Ric, Mama, Beattie et al, who exactly are our "World Class" players?!? ???

Yeah you're right and Southend scored as many as we did in their 4-1 defeat.
If we'd played further up the pitch the top scorer in the Prem would have had more room to play in, feeding off the passes of the 130 grand a week Lampard and Germany's best player. The two best attacking full backs in the league would have had a field day and the French international, Malouda, would have got forward more odften
The tactics were spot on for this game and were minutes away from getting us 3 points. Now we've got Etherington, Lawrence, Fuller, Sidibe, Beattie and Kitson available Pulis can vary the tactics against teams that are not of the same quality as Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Arsenal.
And Stoke will stay up.

Most points will come from home games... We are bound to win at least 1 away from home and more than likely get more draws away from home!! We very nearly got a win/draw today!!!

What did you want us to do against Chelsea? Try and play to there levels? :-\ We nearly took 3 points away from there place regardless of what the stats show! .. I for one am proud of the lads today... I agree we need to start getting points/wins away from home but today was never a game I thought we were even in contention for getting anything from!!

we opened up a bit at blackburn and even tho we were the better team for the first 30 minutes...we were actually 3-0 down. Remember we are playing against a team of world class players

Agreed Jazzy, if we got a point for every time we "very nearly got a draw" we'd be in the top half of the table now!
If every time we go away the opposition have 10 shots for every one of ours you don't need to be Einstein to work out we'll lose nearly every one. 3 points from 33 away kind of proves the point.
Oh well, upwards and onwards!

NB I'm not sure TP actually gives the order "just sit back today lads and trust to luck" I just don't think we are good enough to get a foot on the ball particularly against the better sides.

Do you want us to get battered every week? And the stats today were misleading in the fact that probably half of their shots were long range efforts straight at Sorro or miles wide.

TP's mentality and gameplan.
Pure and simple.
You either like it or not but sure as hell never going to change it.

I still think Plan A is the best way forward. The players believe in it and it was so close to giving us a famous victory.
We have recently played the three best teams in Europe and Plan A has allowed us to compete.
A forward pairing of Fuller and Beattie with Etherington and Lawrence wide midfield should give us the extra quality we need at home. Every home game from now on is a 6-point relegation battle. If we win them all we stay up. Draw some of them we go down.

I'm going to stick up for Jazzy a bit here.
Of course we couldn't really have gone to Stamford Bridge today and really have set up any differently.
However Jazzy's title to this thread is "why does he have us sitting back all the time" not "why did he have us sitting back today"
Some of the abuse he's getting here is a bit wide of the mark.
The fact of the matter is that we have managed to achieve 3pts away from home this season.
Against Liverpool and Wigan we set up the same way and managed to get a point from each by the skin of our teeth, quite how we didn't concede in either game was quite frankly incredible.
The other point we have got was against Newcastle, where as we were already 2-0 down by half time, we actually HAD to take the game to Newcastle and proved that we can actually play a bit and earned ourselves a great point.
The first half today reminded me very much of the Old Trafford game, but thanks to Sorro we went in level at half time, it was really down to a great goalkeeping display rather than our tactics that meant we were level come the start of the second half.
I don't see how it can be argued that our tactics away from home are working when we have so little to show for it.
Today was a fantastic effort from the lads and as I said earlier I don't think we really could have set up any other way.
However it's the remaining away games that we've got to look to now, and I'm not at all convinced that if we continue to play keeping it tight and hoping to nick somet on our travels, that we're likely to win any of our away games this season.
