Not sure mate but once you have been unemployed for more than 26 weeks a whole new world opens up to ya. Get on the job center+ website mate. You will be amazed what you can get. It's no replacement for a job but it helps you get by until you can find something suitable.

It's certainly not for everyone but there are some positions going with an agency that have a contract with EDF energy for their direct sales.
You'd be working venues (shopping centres and supermarkets mainly) talking to people about changing their energy supplier.
You need a bit thick skinned at times (done similar work myself) as some people have issues with being 'pitched', but if you can hack it, there's good money to be made.
If anyone's remotely interested pm me (preferably with a phone number) and I'll put you in touch.
forgot to add - pretty sure experience isn't necessary and training is provided.

Good Luck to ALL of you. This thread just goes to show that there are decent people out there, in Stoke-On-Trent, that really want to work & pay their own way in life, GOOD ON YA ALL. Don't give up. I count myself as a lucky one. I'm still in work, but for how long ? Before the grace of God go I..........................

I havent got a problem with hard work if the pays good..but noticed, even in south cheshire employers have lowerer the pay..exploitation me thinks..

I am in the same situation as you 1000. I am also a qualified spark but don't have a vast amount of experience. If I could raise some cash I would start on my own but it's not the best time for that either. I am applying for all sorts of jobs including driving and warehousing but either the money is crap or they are to far away. It is shit. Edit. Sorry. Congrats BooBoo

its so wank, this thread has been going for 2 months now, and i have been unemployed for nearly 6 months What I really hate about the DSS is the way it's made so hard for people to pick up small bits of self-employed work, as you naturally do when you're starting a business, and still have enough coming in to keep body and soul together. Fair enough once you've got a certain level of turnover you need to do all the formal stuff but it's always seemed crazy to me that benefit spies are out there chasing after anyone who puts an ad in the Sentinel or whatever while they're still on benefits (which are their right). And in the meantime we've got qualified sparkys doing their head in on here and plenty of people who need electrical work done, which obviously applies to all other trades too.

1000. If they wont help you with the car go on-line on the job+ website and apply for a budget loan. Always ask for double what you need. If what you want the money for is not on the form tell them it's for something that is. I don't know if you will qualify but it's worth a go. Have a good luck through all the benefits and things on there. You may be able to get all sorts that they 'forget' to tell you about. They do a thing at Stafford college through the job center which is like the old job club. You have to attend a min of 8 hours a week as you want and in return they will help with training. To do this you have to be referred by the job center. Ask about it next time you go in. They should have one in your area. A have got a meeting on Monday to get myself referred so will post any more info I get. Keep pluggin away bud.

Dont you think its time you sorted out your garden for this summer?!?! why not get that wall built youv'e been on about for the past 5 years,? or even that brick BBQ you wanted last summer.. Staying in is the new going out, get your garden sorted!.... Oh by the way, Anybody happens to want any brickwork, garden walls, pointing etc doing, I will do a nice tidy job. Free Quotes ( special prices for Pulis Rimmers, inflated prices for PHW's) Handy at all sorts of building work too, small plastering jobs etc etc.

Update on the job club thing. You need to go to the job center and asked to be referred to the FLEXIBLE ROUTEWAY. You have to commit to 8 hours per week where they will help with CV's and applications etc. In return they will help you get what training you need/want. I have got an appointment at Stafford col on 30th March but it is run from Stoke on Trent col so should be OK to get on in your area. Hope this helps someone.

Im with UNITY the union, dont know if any one is aware, but if your unemployed you can go on certain courses for free, im going on a FORK LIFT/REACH TRUCK course, hopefully I may have a warehouse job coming up...I would imagine the jobseekers do a similar course for anyone who is interested and not part of the union..
