That's the one I remember as well, I think we lost 3 or 4 nothing, an absolutely abysmal 'performance' hardly any Stoke fans there at all, zero atmosphere, freezing cold, the sort of time you question your own sanity for turning up. I've not got a very good memory like you lot even though I was at most of them games! There's one game at Coventry when they were the only all seater ground at the time, sat behind the goal and it was bloody freezin (not sure if it was a New Years Day game I probeberly had an hangover)

Grimsby away it was 1 - 1 I think. Saunders did score low drive into bottom right corner. FOOKIN FREEZING That day.

Blackpool away was bone dry compared with Cambridge away in the cup! You boys in the open end did look wet, it was OK in the stand to your left ;D That lightning stike just as Steino scored was spectacular. Mind you I crashed my car on the way back, went spinning in water on the A34 ended up facing the wrong way, good job it was 11.30 and nobody else about coming the other way.

Crapo how could I forget that away game at Cambridge, they were in the league above us and it pissed down on us I was drenched, luckily I was posted in Essex at the time so not too far to travel. Ended 2-2 for a replay, yep that was the most soaked I ever got at a Stoke game

Grimsby away it was 1 - 1 I think. Saunders did score low drive into bottom right corner. FOOKIN FREEZING That day. Think it was a header from a corner Spider scored from. Remember seeing a picture of the goal in one of the following home program's and the amount of snow falling was amazing. Would love to see it again. Any keen collectors out there could you locate it ? Think we drew the replay and before the second replay the Grimsby manager on being asked how he felt the tie would go replied "I don't think that Stoke have anything new to show us" Stoke City... 6 Grimsby... 0 ;D Pisser I also remember seeing the digital temperature reading on the building a previous poster mentioned but it was reading zero when we drove past. Another lasting memory from the day was even in them freezing conditions a van load of Stokies passing us on the motorway and some brave chappy mooning out the passenger window ! ;D

I thought Gillingham a few season back was also wet and the stewards kept telling you to sit down. I do remember the Blackpool and Cambridge

That was 2 days after the Preston game and we were heading for what was, at the time, a creditable draw when in about the 88th minute Thomas missed a clearance allowing the ball to bounce off his standing leg and go in. I witnessed this game from Delilahs as i was working in there that day. Certainly warmer in there Did you just work at stoke then and never actually 'pay' to attend a game? SGS

Luton Town (A) FA Cup 3rd Round 1985? On the old open away end - bloody freezin, one of my mates spilt a cup of coffee at half-time, by full time it was frozen solid!!! Think we drew 0 - 0. I've just thawed out.

There can only be one winner in this debate...Darlington at home in an LDV vans game at the Brit.
As the game drifted into extra time, we prayed for a goal from anyone, and up popped Kyle Lightborne with the goalden goal about 30 seconds into the first period of extra time.
I am still thawing out. About 3000 there as well and without doubt the coldest I have ever been at a football match.
Also remember the game at the old Huddersfield ground in the pissing down rain. I had my leg in plaster and went straight from the game to the hospital to get a new plaster sorted as it had disintegrated.
Happy days and makes this season to date all the more enjoyable!

got to be Swindon away - Kamara's first game if memory serves me right? Open end and the seats had 2 inches of frost on them. Ref called a pitch inspection 10mins before kick off and unfortunately allowed it to carry on. It was about -5 and the game was complete shite, lost 0-1 I think.

I remember going to the Grimsby game. Didn't Stoke have to play in damp Grimsby tops cuz the ref ruled that the strips clashed?
It was like watching Bambi on ice.
I also remember skipping college to watch the Oldham game when it was abandoned at half time. Wood the fullback scored in the replay to knock us out 0-1.

Grimsby game gets my vote....though being in the Findus stand that day didn't help
Wettest Cambridge , coats almost dry now
Pescara 93/4 away in the Anglo Italian 3 days before Chrimbo was also bloody cold , got a bout of food poisoning the day before we set off...so was totally dehydrated , freezing cold and wanting the game to end ...and that was 3 hours before kick-off ... not the best condition to be in when 2,000 Italians are trying to get at just 50 Stoke
Warmest...Barbados away 81..though the black lambs wool jumper and black gloves I was wearing might have had something to do with the overheating ( aka the casual scene )
