The two games at the McAlpine in near successive seasons - 1995 and 1997 I think (one where Prudders sliced Kevin Keen's back pass into the net and the other where Muggleton went up for a corner and they scored as he tried to get back to his goal). Griff scored a beaut at one of those games. Think it was 97. And TJ got thrown out for making everyone stand up to sing delilah!

You're right there Thomas... I think I went to both of those games with your good self and Martin Shaw (former youth team striker, not that bloke out of The Professionals).

defenitely that Grimsby cup match. The pitch was like a skating rink and the snow was blowing in our faces off the sea. We were in what can only be described as a shed. It was so cold it gave me a headache and you could almost snap my ears off. I think Mick Lyons was their player manager at the time?

Another Huddersfield game in the 80's when Richie Barker was manager. It was a League Cup tie and just a few days after we played at Anfield. I have NEVER been so cold in my life!! Paul Maguire scored a belter too!
I was also at that Grimsby game but it was colder at Leeds Road!

I remember one at the Vic in around 93/94? where the pitch was frozen and the lads played in trainers and were virtually tip-toeing around the pitch (and falling over a lot), they might have even changed to an orange ball and I think we won around 3-1 with Dave Regis getting a couple? All very vague but the old braincells are struggling.

grimsby away late 80s , was blowing a gale and snowing fucking freezing rite nxt to the sea and all , only had a harrington on , made me wince il tell ya Yes definitely this game for me ,blowing a blizzard when Saunders scored. I think the big freeze season in the '60s that Lakeland was referring to was the 1961-62 promotion season, we did'nt play a game from the beginning of January to late March due to all the grounds being snow/frost bound.I went to watch Stoke play a friendly against Sheff.Utd.(2-2) in March'63 it was one of very few grounds that was playable.

Blackpool away 1999, I was one of the unlucky few stokies stood on the two thirds closed open terrace behind the goal. In the snow. We lost two nil thanks to some monumental fuck ups (Chris Short the perpetrator of one).
Think it was later that season Darlington at home in the autowindscreens on a tuesday night, only 3300 fans there and a bitter wind whipping through the ground, my feet felt like they would never thaw out. Then it went to extra time; as it was golden goal I was absolutely praying for either side to score, luckily Lightbourne did so within about 5 minutes of ET and we went on to win it.

I was going to say the same. I'm sure more people were cheering because the match was over! The Cystal Palace game at the Brit in March '06 came close. Switched to Monday evening by Sky and we lost 1-3.

I remember driving into Cleethorpes for the infamous Grimsby cup match. It was snowing and a clock on the newspaper building was showing temperature as minus 1 at just after mid day. The wind chill off the sea must have made it minus 10?

It's got to be Preston on Boxing Day, we were also in the front rows in the JSL, it was pissing down and freezing, at half time we bought 40 bottles of lager and stayed in the concourse for the rest of the match playing football with the kids in there, I think it ended up 30 a side.

us V. Leeds 28 Dec 05. Fokkin' freezing and we lost 1-0 that one gets my vote. I remember being sat in the car park about 1/2 hour before the game. Car thermometer read -2. given that the sun went down about an hour later i dread to think what the temperature must have dropped to by full time. leeds goal was an own goal too if i remember right. all that followed by a 2 1/2 hr drive back. fingers crossed theres no repeat of that tomorrow!

At home to Palace about 3 years ago on a monday night in Jan live on sky.
Andy Johnson caned Clint Hill for pace and we lost comfortably as I remember.
And I'm sure the Icelandics were in charge and the sentinel made a point of it being colder at the brit than in Iceland!!!!

Another vote for the Grimsby FA cup game.
Am I imagining this, or did George Berry come out for the 'warm' up wearing a sheep skin?

Bournemouth away a few years ago when we were in Division 2. We went down 3-1. It was windy and bloody wet, the wind blowing in off the coast. We were pretty awful that match too.

yup gotta be the grimsby cup game. went pub as is the norm to sup copious amounts of amber nectar[the pub that got bricked by the freindly locals]only prob with going pub and drinking ice cold lager is that you have to go for a piss every ten minuits i swear it was coming out in cubes, then to top it all off one of the lads sat in the back of the car kept letting loose what can only be described as atomic bombs forcing stu[driver] to open the fukin windows had to put up with this all the way back to stoke!!! i remember having the next week off work laid up!!!!!!

Huddersfield away, 1st Jan 97.
Was my first away game and there was snow everywhere, and it felt like -20!.
Prudhoe got decieved by the orange ball that went all over the place from a long range shot, and dropped in over his head (similar to Ronaldo's last week). We went onto lose 2-1.

Grimsby was absolutely bitter - snowing straight into our faces on that away end. Spider scored and we drew 1-1, drew the replay and then scraped the second replay 6-0.
Cant believe noone has gone for Hartlepool away (Dec/92ish?). Gleggers headed a late winner to make it 2-1 and that was the only time I had my mind taken off the fact that I was turning blue. Turned up on that terrace in multiple layers and within 10 minutes was frozen stiff. I think they had recently demolished an old stand to our right and the wind just blew straight into you.
Blackpool away was bone dry compared with Cambridge away in the cup!

reserve game v blackburn res @ the vic early 90s abandoned at half time due to frozen pitch FAC R3 @ Oldham about the same time was pretty grim Away @ Huddersfield in Dec 1995 was effing cold and New Years day 1997 it was snowing Beat me to it, New Years Day '97, my personal least favourite, effing freezing, 1-0 up and Prudhoe miskicked into his own net. Sickening! (and bloody freezing!!)
