With the weather not looking too tempting on Saturday I wonder what was the worst weather conditions you have seen Stoke play in...
Not so long ago I was at the Brit when we beat Wimbledon in May and it was bloody freezing but I will go for a Cup game in 78 at the Vic v Oldham 78 ... I was 13 and lost what little pubes I had grown that day.. It was so cold...and the game was later Abandoned !

Coldest one I can remember was vs Preston boxing day a few years back. I was around 13/14 and thought it would be ok to wear no more than a thin home shirt . Sat on the row closest to "Gordon's Bank" and just below the sort of plastic thing that goes halfway up, had the worst wind ever attacking me. The game when Eustace scored a very very late penalty to equalise.

I'll go with Evans... Preston Boxing Day whenever the frig that was. It was the worst match I've ever seen, and was on row one of the JSL (Yes, usually a Boothen Ender but like to mix it up now and then)... When I got to my seat, It was covered in snow... Was wearing five layers but it chilled down to the bone. Thank fuck my feet were warm in my brand new Doc Martens', else I'd have died.

That Preston game i spent in the Waddo suite.
I was working on the catering side, and although I had a ST, we were shite and it was during the binary spell, so i thought I may aswell earn some extra cash as I get to watch most of the game and there wasn't much too miss anyway.
Anyways I remember seeing the snow and everyone shivering and thanking the Lord I had decided to work that day. Lewis Buxton made his debut that day aswell

Definatley the Preston game on Boxing Day. No game has even come close to how freezin i was that day. The wankest game of football, with nothing to cheer about didn't help. Bring on Saturday.

That was 2 days after the Preston game and we were heading for what was, at the time, a creditable draw when in about the 88th minute Thomas missed a clearance allowing the ball to bounce off his standing leg and go in. I witnessed this game from Delilahs as i was working in there that day. Certainly warmer in there

Wearing no more than a thin shirt (and jeans ) was my worst ever decision as yet. When I got home it took two baths and an hour in front of the coal fire before I stopped shivering. And like has been previously mentioned, the football on show was abysmal.

I think the Preston Boxing Day game was the coldest I hacve ever been at the Brit but to be honest, anyone under about 45 or 50 can hardly imagine how cold it could get in the 1960s before global warming kicked in. Anyone remember the winter of the big freeze when the league programme got so far behind we seemed to be playing games into the summer?
The coldest game I ever went to was at Newcastle in the late 50s or early 60s. The family were staying with relatives in South Shields and Stoke came up for a game. To get to the game was a problem. There were no buses running because of heavy snow so my dad and I walked into Shields centre (3 miles) and caught the train to Newcastle. St James Park (unlike now) was mostly open terracing and the wind was whipping in the snow flurries. How the game wasn't abandoned, I'll never know - it would not have started these days. The pitch was totally covered with snow and the lines were painted red! I am ashamed to say I can't remember the score or even if we won or lost.

agree with buddha. That Grimsby game was unbelievable. Snow laden wind ripping in from the North Sea, Stokies dotted all over the ground, including the 'Find us' stand. Bloody freezing, everyone covered in snow,Think we won, Carl Saunders goal in front of the away end ? Wasn't that the season we played Grimsby almost every week due to cup run, and a couple of replays ? Didn't we tonk them back at the Vic 5-1? Brain cells struggling this morning

The 78 Oldham cup game was quite warm (as the snow had settled) compared to the Grimsby FA cup 3rd round away game in January about 86/87, I was sat in the aptly name "Findus" stand for that one, facing the north sea and watching the snow storm getting closer and closer off the sea with the freezing wind in our faces, body temperature lowered after a few beers in Cleethorpes before the game as well, this was my girlfriends (now wife) first - and last, ever Stoke game ;D

Stoke vs. Ipswich, 2nd March 2004 for me - not least because my left ankle was in plaster, and couldn't keep a sock on, so nearly got frostbite in my toes.

Oldham away quite a few years ago it was never the warmest of grounds and people think the Brit is cold, I think we drew the game. In my moment of madness i decided to go on my motorbike, It was ok going but during the game it started to piss down and never stopped all the way home, I absolutley froze my nads off, Needless to say ive never done it again.

I remember about 10 years ago just after Huddersfield had their new stadium build, we were playing them on the Saturday and the weather forecast was a lot like tomorrows weather. me and my Brother-in-Law decided to Go on the coach as the forecast was so bad, so I packed extra food, drink, put on extra layers (thermals) during the afternoon we traveled up there watched the game in a cold bitting wind got back to Stoke never saw a snow flake, but Games at Wolverhampton and Leeds had both been abandoned due to Snow!. at least the whiskey went down well in the coffee.

Stoke v Pompey a few seasons ago (the season Pompey went up), the result was 1-1. We took the lead only for Pompey to equalise through Jason Crowe I believe. For some reason was sat in the John Smiths Stand, the wind was howling in from the open space and we had driving rain, was absolutely freezing, I couldn't even get up and shout a bit and wave my arms as I had a few disabled guys sat behind me in wheelchairs who kept screaming for me too sit down, if only they could of seen my plight!

There is only you and oldstokie that remember that far back Forny. For me it was Huddersfield away, probably 14 / 15 years ago before they moved to their new stadium. Rain and wind lashed down on the open away end. The ground was very exposed similar to the Britannia. Another bad day was Leyton Orient away in I think 92 when we had the amazing run of games without loss. It rained, snowed and winded (if there is such a word). The only saving grace is that there were so many of us we were packed in like sardines and kept each other warm. It didn't help us losing the game either. It was a very long journey back. Another one was Brighton away in the same season I think. Rained all day and we were in the open again. I had just had a new car and the windscreen wipers packed in on the way back. We tied a string to them and pulled them too and frow via the sunroof and window so we could get home. Oh happy days.

I'd say it was the Grimsby match, I swear Spider had 2" of snow on his afro when he scored, mind you that one at Huddersfeild came a close second but the halftime snowball fight kept us a bit warm

Any game at Boundary Park.
The two games at the McAlpine in near successive seasons - 1995 and 1997 I think (one where Prudders sliced Kevin Keen's back pass into the net and the other where Muggleton went up for a corner and they scored as he tried to get back to his goal).
Also seem to remember playing Birmingham at The Vic on a friday night (on Sky?) when it was snowing - Mike Macari scored a blinder if I remember correctly?
Anyways, these games were cold.
