Was thinking earlier about the demise of pubs, and how expensive a pint is. So what is it that still draws people into the pub. Obviously people stay in more and drink from home, but you can’t beat a pub
Top 3 reasons for me
A draught pint of lager/stout.. just isn’t the same out of a can/bottle, I did buy a beer machine which was great tbf
The laziness, where you can just sit on your arse and things are done around you, no cleaning or being asked to do something.. Bliss
The atmosphere/characters, yep you get some arseholes about, but also some great folk and the banters great.. I suppose you could try to replicate it at home but it’s never the same
Be interesting see what others like about it, as for mine.. Do the younger generation want the above. I’d say no

I think more pubs that dicourage phones would be great tbf, and on a side note I’ve seen the vine down pitshill is up for auction. Be interesting to see what happens to that.

Plus you end up being like a waiter all night. I really do fear for the traditional pub, and once they’re gone they’ll be gone for good, or come back as one of these modern swanky gin type bars, or a foody franchise type pub . Nothing beats the traditional pub

Barmaids Scampi Fries Those peanuts cards that reveal women's knockers Those Hagar beer mats that you could put your fingers through
Is/was a bar/restaurant in Cheshire that blocked mobile phone signals. Great idea

Used to love an evening night in the pub/local,but the number of divs just seems to have increased almost exponentially now?
Much rather go to Eleven mosts weekends to catch a tribute band nowadays,no more expensive than most pubs and because people principally go for the music, the atmosphere and banter's a lot more good natured on the whole.

Dunrobin in Dresden was great on a Friday night with a DJ on in the lounge, all different ages & all kinds of characters, never seen a pub so rammed like that place used to get. Royal Oak down Fenton, ace set-up in the bar with the pool, darts & skittles all down the same corner by the tele, two great nudgers in the lounge aswell, including the jackpot repeater friendly 'Volcano'. The Joker in the heart of Blurton, man, that place was an experience! Which sadly if you weren't from Blurton you'd doubtfully get to sample as it wasn't the kind of place you'd visit.
Spent too many years in those three places, sadly not one of them still exist today.

Round the corner from me they had a bar with a kinda religious theme. Belgian beers and some stained glass designs. The lads were dapper and the lasses had the sexy shirt/short skirt/stockings thing. I think they changed it recently because of sexism. But it was nice.

How often do you end up chatting to new people?
I've got great memories of meeting new people over pool or billiards or watching a match. But thinking about it, it's probably like 1 time in 10.
Still, wouldn't happen at home.

Village idiots as well. There's always one in every pub and in most cases are good value for a bit of hilarity.
I may well have been classed as that village idiot in years gone by thinking about it 😆 I don't get out much nowadays to be fair. Sit and shout at the telly most evenings...

Just been the Thistleberry for a couple of after work scoops. Lovely to get into a social setting. I couldn’t do it all night anymore though with the prices as they are. It’s a real shame and pubs are suffering big time

An all dayer. Once in a blue moon these days but there’s nothing better….. Every 3 months for me. Prefer to call it an all 3 dayer as it takes me that long to recover these days!🤦🏻♂️ Getting older really is worse than I thought it’d be!

Going into a musty pub that has just opened for the day and the smell of Shake and Vac or the quivalent from Iceland these days . You can often still smell the piss coming from the toilets though
I'd rather eat Shake N Vac that Cheese Moments. Cheese Moments also never had a tasty looking housewife putting the freshness back either and wiggling it about

I go very rarely and to mainly one , The Crown in Oakengates (Telford , obviously), small real ale boozer on High St and I probably visit once a month generally after get back from the game on a Sat and we're picking up a takeaway. Doesn't play music loud, not many glued to phones and a good convivial boozer with a nice crowd, there'll be a few other lads who are also on way home from games and I'll spend a happy hour with 2-3 pints before picking food up. Good scratchings and snacks and superb beer and while I "know" many in there I can still have a bit of quiet time enjoying a pint in my own headspace and that counts for a lot to me, can't put a price on that.

I used to love a go on the old fruit machines. And if you did you could guarantee you'd come across a Billy Bleach 😆

True story, I think…..
