So all the on the pitch football decisions are taken by the coach, that is team selection, tactics, the style of play etc. The Sporting Director does not involve himself with the playing side, other than recruitment. Is that how you see it. Not entirely i think the Director of football has an over arching vision for the club that might include identity and style of play, and systems of play, that obviously has bearing on recruitment and building a team to fit the system, he then brings in a coach to work with the recruited players and within the system/ethos...is how i see it. The key is that the coach then becomes just another variable like a player who for whatever isn't performing/adhering to system can be replaced with minimal disruption and without the need to rebuild the team from scratch in the new coaches image (like the old manager system)...thats the theory Fair enough. So at Manchester City do you think PEP tells the Sporting Director the style of play he intends to adopt and then asks the SD to find him players that suit. Or do you think the Sporting Director tells PEP what style he wants the club to adopt and then gets him players to suit. If you don't have clear guidelines on how this works then you have potential chaos, which might be what is happening at Stoke.

We need to judge this on the facts and not emotions. We are told he's a good coach and yes he's a very good speaker. At the same time he was not successful in Spain where he spent 6 years in various coaching positions. None of the English teams he spent time with gave him the managers job. There's a big difference between being a coach and being a manager. Having said that we should not judge him on early results, good or bad, but give him time to achieve success. It's vital that this decision proves to be right, heaven help us if it fails. Tbf they were his first ventures into coaching and he was 25-30 years old.... Fine to be cautious, naive to write him off before he's even unpacked. Let's get onboard and give him 100% support!

Bit dramatic. Last season he said what was the right thing to say at the time. What do you want him to come in and say, he came in Feb, all he really had to play with were words. You can say something in February and genuinely mean it and also say something different in September of the same year, and both of those things can be your honest opinion at the time. The fact the people seem to have forgotten that is the reason the world’s in such a massive fucking state. Everyone is fucking obsessed with painting themselves into a corner. If I think 2+2 is 5 in February and by September I think it’s 4, should you be unable to believe a word that comes out of my mouth? Or have I just got better at maths? What about what he said last Thursday? I don’t know what he said last Thursday, but I’m going to assume he gave Schumacher his backing. What I said stands, just because someone says something on day x doesn’t mean they can’t say something on day y and have told the truth on both days. By the same token, it’s sport, it’s business, Walters is no different to any other director of football or manager. I’m not trying to claim that he isn’t going to straight up lie to camera. There are situations where he cannot tell the truth. “Are you behind Steven Schumacher?” “No, I think he’s wank, his midfield seems non existent and he’s playing a utility player in the no10 role” So when you say why should you believe a word he says, well why would you feel the need to believe a word he says? Does it further the interests of SCFC if everything that comes out of his face is the absolute truth? Of course not.

Surely the model (even at Man City) is that the Club/Sporting Director decide the style of play and their approach to transfers (age etc) then go out and find the best coach to fit that model. (Everyone knew his style of management, preferred method of play and the type of players he prefers in advance). The system works best when both are on the same page about style and personnel. When Pep decides to leave, I would expect a Pep clone to be appointed as his successor and the current style of play to be continued.

Those saying it's a huge gamble, I'm not convinced it is that much of one. We won't go down with this squad whoever the manager is, so hopefully he can get that extra 10/20% from the players to help propel us up the table.... I can’t agree this squad is too good to go down. Lots of unproven players at this level.

I'm talking about Pelach as opposed to Allardyce. I have not mentioned Schumacher as rightly or wrongly he has gone. I was supporting keeping him for the rest of the season if you look back at my posts. As for Walters I have always had reservations about his involvement with team matters and self congratulatory videos. Not sure he rules through fear though and neither of us know the full story. I also had my reservations over our run at the end of last season when apart from Plymouth none of the other teams had anything to play for. I hoped we would start this season in the same way but even our wins have not had the fast flowing football and quick one touch passes we saw then. Fair enough. But with reference to the start of this season, he's still bedding in a new raft of players on top of having overseen the massive overhaul from last season. He's also had injuries to contend with. But all that aside we are 5 games into a season. We're sat bang in mid table. Its not when you sack someone, even if Schumacher has called him a twat. And now we have a new guy who has to start all over again. Who will decide x y and z are not players I want here. Players get unsettled again. Results start getting bad, fans unhappy. What do you do now Walters. Another pay off. Compo for stealing another manager from yet another club. Its a shit show.. I don't think we disagree here. I was talking about preferring Pelach to Allardyce but in all honesty I would prefer Schumacher for the reasons you list. If Pelach doesn't hit the ground running the atmosphere could become toxic. I have just read Schumacher's statement and without saying so he is definitely not happy with someone at the club and we know who. It has all left a sour taste in the mouth and turned our club from one which is patient with manager to one which fires people on a whim. However that is not Pelach's fault and I hope he is given longer than Schumacher to succeed.

Certainly does, don't know whether there set up has evolved to that more traditional role following Peps undoubted successes...almost in the same way that Barcelona started letting Messi have sway in big decisions. It is Interesting though with Stoke this is now the first time we get to see the model properly at work as it should be with the DoF bringing in a coach to fit his/club vision...that hasn't happened before.

A foreign coach in the Coates era - who would have thought. A man with very little experience at this level again, but I like his story though and can see the attraction, loved his interview - the new Pep is at Stoke - watch out Man City What are the 5 phases of play, he mentions, though

All said and done all we wanna do is turn up and watch some decent nogger and maybe if we're lucky do well enough to get excited at the top end of the table. Walters will however be in the firing line if it goes wrong early doors for the new lad. I wish Pelach all the best. He's our new gaffer. And hopefully we hear very little from Walters..

Attacking Set-Pieces (Free Kicks, Corners) Seems that at Stoke we have only been able to count up to 3.

Sounds like an incredibly technical manager and looks like he wont have any trouble ripping into to someone, just wonder how this bunch will take to him, hopefully they respond to his passion.

Get behind the new manager or fuck off up the Vale. So much negativity on here it’s ridiculous (Monday morning) Dad - "Son, your dogs dead, I'm sorry but he was from Liverpool so who really cares, get a grip" (Monday lunchtime) Dad- " Son, you have a new Spanish puppy, now stop fucking crying, he'll kill any intruders, solve mysteries and win crufts, minimum"
