But what is the way he wants us to play? It’s certainly not clear. A pressing possession football team with more control and more bite. we've had more possession in 2 of his 7 games in charge, if that's his aim he's failing.

I'd take getting to January more or less where we are (it's not like we haven't been there before) and then using January to tie up a couple of deals and hope Lawal and Gallagher are part of the squad. The only issue with this is if we're struggling come Jan, the likes of Koumas, Moran and Cannon may well be recalled and loaned out to other clubs. Apart from koumas going back, would this really be a bad thing??

What’s Pound Land done so far.
Gibson: Awful player on a ludicrously long contract, which we’d said wouldn’t happen again.
Unheard of bloke masquerading as a football coach who wears skinny jeans, jumper and a pair of trainers.
Lawal UK champion of hide n seek.
Put £500 behind the bar in Cork for fans

Cannon is definitely a decent striker for this level in the right system. The other issue Dave, is if they were to go, would you trust us to replace them with better? I definitely wouldn't.

I think it was naive beyond words to get rid of Schumacher, but more so replace him with a coach masquerading as a manager. It may pay dividends, time will tell, but it was a gamble we really need not have taken..

If people are waiting for Walters to fire Pelach they are going to be waiting a very long time. Unless Coates goes over his head then sacks them both if things get worse.

Cannon is definitely a decent striker for this level in the right system. The other issue Dave, is if they were to go, would you trust us to replace them with better? I definitely wouldn't. It's a fair point. I'd had my fill of Schumacher post Oxford and was delighted to learn we'd sacked him. Did I have any confidence that we'd replace him with someone better? Not really. The same is true with players I guess. I was delighted we finally got shut of Baker and Laurent. Our midfield has been a problem for years and I hoped with their departure, we'd finally get some balance in midfield. That clearly hasn't happened and at the minute we look weaker than ever in that area of the pitch. Burger hasn't been in good form but can't do it on his own, Thompson is utterly useless and Moran is a liability in a midfield 2. (in my opinion of course) Canon is a real problem in my opinion. He took his goals v Pompey expertly, particularly the 4th goal which I absolutely loved and I hoped he'd kick on from that. He hasn't. Is it him or is it us? I think Palach has looked at him and thought to get the best out of him, we need to play 2 up front. That has had a knock on effect and weakened other areas of the team, namely the midfield. We are effectively building a team around getting the best out of Canon and I would question if he's a good enough player to do that for. Early signs are most definitely not. All that said, if we strengthen the midfield and put 3 in there, whatever the combination, we will undoubtedly be a bit more robust and secure as a team but then we have that age old problem of "how do we score enough goals to compensate the inevitable individual defensive errors that we make every game that cost us so much". As bad as we've been in periods of the last 3 games, I'd argue that without basic individual errors in all 3 games, we'd be at least 4 points better off, possibly 5. A long winded way of saying I don't trust them either be that replacing a manager or replacing a player which puts us in that never ending cycle of frustration and pessimism whenever we have a bad result or performance or series of performance. Also, for the record, I didn't think we were that bad on Saturday.

That's the most likely scenario but I can't see that happening anytime soon either, it would mean he's admitted he's got it wrong yet again. I can't see anything changing until February / March at the earliest and only then if we are in a proper relegation battle.

Doak is doing really well at Boro. The same cannot be said of Koumas who is doing "OK" at best. I wouldn't really read too much into it.

I’ve been listening to a podcast recently where the guy who co-authored Ancelotti’s book was speaking about sacking managers and when to do it. He referenced a studies across a variety of leagues where there’s a threshold which indicates it becomes highly unlikely a manager will ever turn things around to becoming a success and you’re almost at cut your losses territory. This was a minimum of 0.75 points per game in the first 8 (league, possibly, not sure).
I’ve discounted Southampton since it’s a cup game and goodness knows what our motivations will be, but I think a loss to Derby would put Pelach bang on that 0.75 value, anything better would see him over it of course. Perhaps alludes to things not being in whirling around the plughole situation just yet, but a fine balance nonetheless.
Obviously, statistics always have anomalies, but it seems fair to say we are starting to get into the area of having enough evidence in front of us to see if we’re on a good direction of travel.

Yep, I wouldnt have gotten rid of Schu but had we replaced him with someone proven/decent I would have got it Was fully prepared to give Pelach a chance but ive little confidence things will improve

The conversation turning to a debate about whether we should sack Narcis is frankly bonkers, for reasons others have mentioned. The squad we have and the injuries we're struggling with are hampering any real progress. I'd question a few team selections and set ups but I like the bloke and want him to succeed, if only to have some stability. Not giving him until January is ludicrous though and would really show up Walters, so I can't see a scenario where he's not here in January, unless the wheels well and truly come off. I'd argue a loss against Derby on Saturday is the wheels coming well and truly off. Tipping point?

There will be boo's then everyone will slouch off home effing and jeffing, it will be uproar on here and on twitter but nothing will actually happen. We'll just carry on the malaise for another month or two, Pelach will be sacked and the next one on the conveyor belt of failure will installed.

Also, for the record, I didn't think we were that bad on Saturday. Completely agree with this. Building a team around Cannon is fine with me, if the key piece to make that happen (Gallagher or Gallagher 2.0) are available to enable the plan. Hit to a big guy who can hold it up and play in a decent finisher. It's bloody simple football and it's what got us promoted in the 90's under Lou, and it's what got us promoted under TP. We got a glimpse against Portsmouth, and then fate strikes again. Without a Gallagher type to play off, Cannon is just lost, Koumas is better suited to lone striker, not Cannon.

I’m always surprised by the level of knee jerk reactions we seem to get on here. Making a judgment this early into a new managers tenure is absolutely mad. There are bound to be some poor performances along the way, but our fan base in general (and this board maybe more so), ride such an emotional rollercoaster it’s actually funny. One minute we’re on our way to promotion and the next we should be clearing out the whole management team because they are ‘clueless’ ‘an embarrassment’ etc etc. We’ve just played two of the better sides in the division - everyone needs to sit back and see what unfolds.

It's only 7 games, but we've got to see some evidence soon that that something's changing.
Can't read too much into such a small sample, but we're 24th in the league for XG against, and 24th in terms of difference between XG created and XG conceded
XG against 24. Stoke 13 23. Watford 12.9 22. Plymouth 11.8
XG difference 24. Stoke -5.5 23. Plymouth -5.1 22. QPR -3.9
We're about 17th in terms of XG created in that time, but we're just being swamped by what the opposition are creating. If Johansson hadn't been in freakish form, God knows what would've happened in the last month

I agree Fuller, we need to tighten up big time, pretty damn quick. If we created shed loads of chances, that might cancel things out, but we don't. In transition we are way too wasteful. We simply have to improve in all departments quickly, or we will be firmly entrenched in the bottom 3 by the end of November..

I have a horrible feeling we will sack Pelach just after the January transfer window closes. Again the new manager will be left with a squad he has inherited with no room for recruitment. Thats my worry if we sack him before the xmas period, new manager gets xmas games & the transfer window which would probably result in us staying up end of or after the window it's much more difficult we could sack him now of course in which case plenty of time for new manager to sort things out the whole thing is tortuous does it matter , how much input does the HC get these days , it’s clear most the signings were Walters pick
