Top Flight XI: Begovic Wilkinson Huth Shawcross Pieters Bracewell N’Zonzi Bojan Chamberlain Fuller Arnautovic Second Tier XI: Crossley Lee Dixon Bould Cranson Griffin Whelan Kelly Beagrie Lawrence Sheron Sturridge Third Tier XI: Fox Butler Overson Sandford Clarke Beeston Gleghorn Hoekstra O’ Connor Biggins Stein Chamberlain. The first game I really remember anything about was when my old man took me against West Ham in 1982/83 and we won 5-2. It was the first time I had seen aggro in the ground (the paddock area) and the performance of Chamberlain was sensational. The electric wizard. One of my first games we actually had 2 disallowed as well. Chamberlain took on their entire back line and scored and the ref flagged someone not involved offside. Paul Goddard did a dive over Fox that put the Suarez one to shame.

Bego Wilko Shawcross Huth Pieters Delap Nzonzi Shaq Bojan Arnie Fuller Simmo Wilko Shawcross Taggart Higgi Lawrence Delap Whelan D.Phillips* Fuller Gallgher *really don’t want to put Cresswell there 🤣 Fully expect Johansson, Manhoef and Junho to take relevant spots in that one though. Could have gone for Hendrie? I forgot about him and just wanted to get Demar in there 🤣 But yeah he’d be a better shout.

Bego over Sorenson. 🤔🤔🤔
Soro was superb between the sticks.

Got to have Abdoulaye Faye in there. He was sensational in that first season. Though I can't drop Huth or Shawcross so I gave up. It's easy under tactics. Huth at right back. Or fuck it, centre forward like Ryan Shotton.

Bego over Sorenson. 🤔🤔🤔 Soro was superb between the sticks. Bego was far superior in my opinion. Probably why he replaced Soro.

Can I have Michael Owen and Eidur Gudjohnsen up front on the team sheet but not actually on the pitch?

Surely Gordon Banks as goalie in 1st tier ? Or have I misread the rules ? Sorry, most of us oldies are too busy dribbling into our Ovaltine to have replied to such an involved topic Here's part 1 of my answer Banks Marsh Smith ShawX Pejic Shaq Hudson Dobing Arnie Greenhoff Ritchie Almost identical for me, I would have TC in preference to Arnie.

Begovic Griffin Smith Faye Higginbottom NZonzi Bojan Hudson Chamberlain Crookes Arnautovic Struggled for full backs and strikers! Same. A paucity of quality top flight full backs and strikers, but spoilt for choice when it comes to keepers, central defenders and wingers.

Not a popular opinion at a guess but Wilko as a player wasn't very good. Had everything, attitude, aggression etc but was like a poor Julian Dicks.
Why so many many clapped him off that day v Man U still baffles me. One of the stupidest things have seen a player do at our place and there's been many.
Can see why folk loved him though and that moment v Fulham think it was where he was upended and just got up and a no problem to whoever did it. Imagine if that was say an Arse player.
If other players had a fraction of his attitude would be nice and he made use of what he had ...passing wasn't his strong point

He would die for the cause and that gets you a very long way. Also feel desperately sorry for him for his problems after football. Give me 1 Andy Wilkinson over a million Imbula's. Imbula was his diametric opposite - all the talent in the world and the work ethic of a sloth. You can't complain about winning 5-0 at Wembley, but if he'd have scored I would genuinely have wept.

I don't have much to add that others haven't already included, so I'll be controversial and say that I've seen a lot of people pick Shaqiri, but no mentions of Moses, who I thought was a much better player and was a key part of Chelsea's title winning team under Conte a couple of years later. I don't think people took to him at the time because he maybe gave the impression of not being very committed, especially when he went back to Chelsea for injury treatment, but he was so good. I loved that Hughes side with extreme pace on the breakaway.
I wonder how many players we've had since relegation who would have got into the 2008 promotion winning side?
Nash Wilkinson Shawcross Cort Dickinson Lawrence Delap Whelan Cresswell Sidibe Fuller
