Middlesbrough's tweet - We exit the Carabao Cup. Paul Edwards commented: "Not so much Exit as being unceremoniously man handled out of the back door under a blanket before being bundled into a clow car that back fires and loses its bumper as it crawls off in front of 23 other championship managers watching and laughing". Fucking brilliant xD Classic, here’s the tweet!

Saw him mouth "Its cramp" to the physio....so I think hes fine You know you've been on this board too long when you go into autopilot and read that post as "Saw him mouth 'it's cramp' supporting World of Twist in the early 90s." I actually did see The Cramps, in real life, in 1982, was great

Well that was a surprise. Hopefully Liverpool have no recall clause for Kumas. Why he’s not going to be playing for them in the prem anytime soon. Talk about going overboard.

Gotta love the player bashing and then bang, get in. It was ever thus and with every club. The great Al Read was making fun of it seventy years ago.

Great result, Boro had chances of course but we always looked more threatening and dynamic, imo.
If we are playing a 4-2-3-1 in the future, both Sidibe and Mmaee have given Schumacher a lot to think about how they fit into that system. Sidibe’s nautral athleticism and temperament make him a good alternative to Thompson. He took a bit of getting used to the pace of things, but worth remembering there was inexperience both in front and behind him. He really grew into the game. I would’ve advocated him going out on-loan before tonight, but I think that’s probably the wrong path for him. Both him and Dixon would get more benefit from training with the seniors and playing with the U21s, and gradually increase their involvement in the senior squad on matchdays.
Mmaee is a really weird one, though. He’s not a natural presser, but if we’re playing a counter style of attack he’s a good fit. He’ll withdraw and leave lots of space to exploit - that could be deadly with Junho, Manhoef, Koumas, etc. I’m not sure he’s ever going to be a Haaland type bulldozer, but he’s got good quick feet and strikes the ball really cleanly, he needs the ball into feet because he’s not a target man and he’s not going to run in behind - but he looks after the ball pretty well if he does receive it as mentioned. I can’t really shake the thought of how Liverpool used Firmino to get goals from elsewhere on the pitch and whether that’s an approach we could sue with Mmaee?
Lastly, shoutout for Junior. It’s a given that most young players are going to have dips here and there, but their response is more telling about how they’ll go on and do in the future. He’s had some stick but I thought he was really positive last night, played to his strengths and knew his limitations. I think a Stevens’ type figure would be helpful for his development to help shoulder the burden, but his resolve last night when pitted against a guy who got a MOTM in the Champions League last season was really encouraging for the trajectory of his career.

Bit of a freak scoreline especially considering boro had plenty of chances when it was 0-0 or 0-1. Run that game over 100 times and no way we win 0-5 again. Awesome confidence boosting night though. We have plenty to be excited about. The average age of our team was well over a year younger than theirs. We have the core of a team that has proven it can be handy at championship level plus plenty of young talent to develop. In the right hands these next few years could be electric. Also Nathan Lowe scored twice for Walsall in their comeback against Huddersfield. This is football. Re-run the WBA game and we’d win with the chances we had. Depends if you’ve got a half full or half empty perspective. We limited WBA to far fewer chances we were just not as clinical as we were last night. Funny game, football. Yep unfortunately a good chunk of football fans have an extreme short-term overview. Individual results are often meaningless. It’s why modern sports psychology is all about process not results. Control the controllables etc because thinking the sky is falling or believing your own hype are both equally dangerous responses to match to match variance.

Fantastic night up in the NE and made oh so much more special with the level of youth involved. I'm not sure I'd have seen this involvement with previous managers. Once their no. 19 missed the early sitter (and it was a howler of a miss) things just got totally worse for Boro. Some of the goals just took their defence apart.
Anyway back in the hat for tonight, Barrow away please.

The most significant effect of this performance was that it demonstrated that the average fan knows far less than they like to think they know. They waffle on about formations, what players in this and that position should be doing/not doing, they pontificate on strategy and tactics and that they have the experience to judge the capabilities and worth of players. If all the comments, both before and during the match, could be collated, it would be comedy gold!

Great win to boost morale. Played with freedom without fear of losing. Even Burger played more like his old self. I hope SS learns from this and doesn’t tinker with formation. I’d start the same line up against Plymouth. Definitely has replacements for Laurent and Thompson.

Collating any comments made before the game is just daft, especially if you only collate the "wrong" ones. Hindsight never loses. Collating any reactionary comments from during the game is just silly as well. We've all said something during a game where we've thought about it afterwards and thought "hmm, got that one wrong". It's only comedy gold to people with far too much time on their hands and want to make silly little digs at fellow fans.

I didn't think there was nothing wrong with the performance or the positions of the players on the field. Great to know that everything that hasn't been working in previous games has now been proven to be best and most effective because we gave a second string Boro a fluke thrashing. Nearly everything we hit on target went in and our keeper had a blinder, bound to continue that way, it's just obvious. Or maybe we might like to query a few things that didn't look right despite the outcome.

Didn’t see the game but saw the report. Lots of assists from Moran apparently.
Anyone tell me more about him? Is he the midfielder we’ve been looking for?
