When is it then, 4th round? Almost guaranteed a Prem side. Next week once the likes of Man City, Liverpool etc have played their ties. They've split the League Cup fixtures between this week and next to accommodate the Champions League this week..

So the four clubs in the UCL only have to win THREE games to get to a Wembley final FOUR games to win a trophy How the fuck is that a fair competition. Definitely not right, especially when the 3rd draw was heavily rigged in order to keep those clubs featuring in the UCL were kept apart, and pre decided if playing their fixture home or away! But to be fair it's a phased entry competition anyway & generally them kinda clubs who you'd guarantee to be featuring in the latter rounds any-way if not the final. Suppose the flip of this is that it gives other clubs more chance to progress through the tournament to the 3rd round & beyond stages. & the format of the Leagie Cup has been changing year on year anyway. 2x legged early ties were got rid of. Extra time was got rid of, changes have slowly been eroding away at the fabric of the competition over the years. Heard an interesting piece with Simon Jordan the other day which makes sense and he said that despite the way the League Cups been tinkered with & changed over the years, at least we still have it and if we have to move with the times to keep it current then so be it. He alluded to many other countries that have got rid totally of their domestic 2nd Cup competitions & said whilst we've got it, let's embrace it, despite the sometimes unfair and weighted changes it comes with.

So there's only Sheff W and Preston (and us) in the non-prem category. Can't see any shocks next week. WHU might beat Liverpool and Leicester could conceivably slip up v Walsall. Nah..
Leaving these balls most likely to be in the bag:
Liverpool Man C Arsenal Man U Villa Spurs Leicester Brentford Sheff W Preston Southampton Palace Stoke Brighton Newcastle Chelsea
Preston or Sheff W at home or away are winnable. Maybe Soton and Leicester if they prioritise relegation battle and play their reserves. But hard to see us getting much further, sadly. Wonder if we will have the same coach at end of October.

based on that , perhaps it will soon be renamed the "premier league cup "

I'm not sure I'm totally with Jordan on that argument, but I think the other night shows how useful this competition can be for clubs like Stoke in bringing through young players. Games like this will be hugely beneficial for players like Dixon, Sidibe and Tezgel. They desperately need these competitive games and will definitely take something from it. I'd be quite happy if the Champions League teams left the competition as things stand. They seem to be doing more damage to it by being in it, than if they left it altogether.

It wasn’t pre decided whether they were home or away, at least not in the way I think you’re implying, each of the six teams had gone or away drawn out of a hat, all six could have been home or away, no different to had they been included in the full draw. Why they thought it was a good idea to not show that as part of the draw, god only knows.

We’d likely get outclassed but there’d be a nice 25k+ crowd, and it’d hardly be shock of the century to find a way through vs any of those; especially considering they prob wouldn’t start with their strongest teams. They all give off the sort of vibes in recent times where you can already imagine the “cold tuesday night” memes going into overdrive.

Maybe a new sponsor is needed that doesn't pander to the top clubs,Put the Prem teams in the 1st rd.teams playing in Europe enter in the 2nd.rd. If they don't like it,then don't enter it.

Think was just the way I'd written it, had forgot to put a pre 'draw' decided which of the European Cup clubs were home or away in this group of matches.

I am just praying we don't get a proper pasting against one of the big boys live on TV for the whole world to see just how wank we are..
It is such an unfair competition for the reasons stated in this thread. My solution would be for the clubs who join late to name a "squad" for the cup prior to the first game. This will stop them bringing in the first team for the semi/final.

(Of course, the flipside is you get to be very smug *if* we beat them).

Hardly a high profile cup and doubt many would even notice The attendances don't suggest that it's completely dead despite all efforts from each and every corner to kill it off. From last night Walsall and Wycombe had above average attendances i.e. 8,000 to watch Aston Villa reserves as opposed to 5,000 and Chelsea v Barrow was 38,000.
