Good DM’s don’t just sit. Is that what you think Kante does ? Kante doesn't play holding midfielder. Played in a 2 at Leicster and plays as an 8 for France. Tchouameni plays 6. And good DMs do just sit. That's the fucking point of them. They link the play between defense and midfield and dont get caught where they shouldn't be. Pretty much everyone I’ve ever heard describe Kante would describe him as a DM. IYO good DM’s just sit. Very few of what are considered to be the best DM’s in the modern game do that FFS. Sidibe will likely challenge for a spot at the base of our midfield and has played there in pre season. Do you think he’s under instruction to just sit?? |

Box to box definitely. He's not a DM as he isn't disciplined enough to sit and wants to be involved everywhere on the pitch. Him and Sidibe as box to box with this guy, if he adapts to English football could be a brilliant midfield three. Good DM’s don’t just sit. Is that what you think Kante does ? No but they know their responsibility is to get back if the team lose possession. A number of times when playing the deep midfield player last year Burger couldn't get back to assist the defence and was half way up field when we conceded a goal, still running back. They are also aware that if a defender goes up field it is a DM's responsibility to sit back and cut out a break. EDIT The latter is what Thompson is great at. |

A DM who doesn’t just sit and two 8’s who create and score goals ( these tend to be smaller buzzy technical players adept at slick interplay in and around the opposition box but with big engines that see them pressing and working back too). High risk, high reward football. If you only buzz about the opposition box you are not a box to box midfielder. The last few matches we played with Thompson sitting, Burger or Laurent drivng forward, Cundle popping up all over the opposition area and the wingers coming inside leaving the wide spaces for the full backs. |

I don’t want to be negative but if he’s that highly rated I find it hard to believe he’d be coming here. I’d be very very happy to be wrong though. Hopefully he’s better than our last two South American midfielders (although Palacios I think was just an awful tragedy given his brother being murdered). Let’s hope we can sign him and move on one of our current crop What a stupid point to make, “if he’s that highly rated then why is he coming here”… Basically, we’re shit so only shit players will want to come here? Because we offer clear career progression, first team football in England with great exposure, and we’re not exactly a Vale or Crewe, we are one good season away from the greatest league in the world (allegedly). Not at all. Linked to two premier league clubs or bottom half Stoke. Seemingly very highly rated and on (currently) more successful clubs’ radars. Not stupid at all if you remove your tinted glasses and not take it to heart but look at it subjectively. Jesus the drama 😂 Edit: having read the thread now it seems plenty think it’s highly unlikely. You have to wonder why surely? |

Kante plays a strange role for a DM, he always appears more like a floating midfielder to me because he drifts left and right, back and forward. He reminds me of a kid chasing a football all around the park but he does it so well. Kante is very good at using his teammates to trap players with his positioning giving himself the opportunity to win the ball back a lot higher up the pitch than normal. He also gets involved in attacks a lot, his passing is very nice and he has a fast short burst of pace. I could watch Kante all day, best footballer in the world for me |
