He looked absolutely fuming with himself during pens
He's clearly lacking match fitness and sharpness
The problem is - if he starts overthinking things now, and inevitably our 'fans' get on his back - then it's game over
Those 'fans' just need to get behind him asap (and the team generally) instead of moaning at every bad touch.

He looked like a player trying to hard already to me, clearly understands the pressure on him. it’s been 2 games, the guy needs to chill.

Who has written him off? All I can see is people reflecting on his very poor performance tonight. Not the striker we needed despite all the creaming over him. You’re right. But I am and I have. (In response to someone saying nobody should write him off) 5 goals max from him, no good, send back in Jan If that’s not writing him off then I’m not sure what is. Ok, didn’t realise you were talking the Oxford game. I thought we were discussing last night’s game. The vast majority have said he was very poor but hopefully will get better. There’s a fair bit of weariness about his poor start, which given our track record with strikers is perfectly reasonable.

I can't get over that blaze over last night.
Any striker worth anything just hits it low and towards a corner with a little bit of composure.
He hit it like a kid. Really really poor.
I know you shouldn't judge a player like that but no really decent striker hits a ball like that one on one.

Give the lad a break he’s barely played!

What is it with the Stoke DNA ,we are the most depressing bunch? This is an actual question not just a statement .

If he’d of scored the penalty no one would be wetting their knickers. He did alright and shouldn’t be judged just yet.

2nd game, substitute appearance against a league 2 side. Manager sacked, new manager potentially sitting in the stands.
Let’s give him a bit linger eh ?

Let’s cut the lad a bit of slack FFS. Our season hinges on him doing well for us, some of these judgmental comments after a thirty minute sub appearance are ridiculous.

He will be ok ,, if he’d scored 2 or 3 we would be getting automatic promotion and he will get 30 goals for the season according to some on here .

Getting yourself in the position to score is 70% of the job, 30% putting it in the net.
Blazed that one last night, but wouldn't write him off.
Try not judge until at least 10 full games

For what it's worth, I think he's going to come good for us. Yes he should have scored the 1:1, but there was something about his positioning and style that gives me confidence he'll be decent. There was one header in particular that he really had to twist his body and generate power out of nowhere that showed he's got something a little bit extra than other strikers we've had recently.
He reminded me a bit of Bertie Biggins and Peter Thorne. Not saying he'll get to the heights of Thorne in particular, but once he gets a goal and settles then he'll come good.
Ps feel free to bookmark this and rip my opinion to shreds in a few months 😉

And one who hasn’t played much proper football recently. If he’s still doing it in 4 or 5 games time then we have a problem.

He looked a bit quicker than I was expecting too, which was a nice surprise. We've got to trust that Palach is going to be a coach who gets the best out his attacking options and strikers can then get chances and score the goals they need. We haven't scored enough goals for what feels like forever. If we are going to get anywhere, it's got to be by scoring more goals and TC will play a big part in that.

Apart from the glaring miss I thought he looked good. Made some great runs off the ball. Wasn’t involved as much as he should have been. I think he’ll come good
Manhoef. Cannon. Gallagher. Koumas
That could be some forward line that

Remember Steino not scoring during his loan period with us? If we are basing a striker on one full game where we created zero for him and then a cameo in a Carabao Cup game then no new forward will succeed here.

He will come good with the right manager, old fashioned centre forward that will score goals. Let’s hope the next manager can use him properly.
On Saturday he was starved of the ball due to starting without any one to supply the passes. Even though he missed that chance when he just came on last night, he will score those type of chances in future.
Good luck Mr Cannon.

As usual, some silly people hoping he fails so they can say they told us so. I've wondered before how some sad sacks would have reacted to Stein signing or even Matthews coming back.

I know you shouldn't judge a player like that but no really decent striker hits a ball like that one on one. John Richie missed loads of chances, especially one on ones. Still one of the best strikers I have seen at stoke. Every striker blazes the ball over. Tom Cannon is a good striker and we are lucky to have him.

Yes absolutely, spot on. Of course he missed a couple of chances and looked unconvincing from the spot, but I actually saw a lot of good things in his play. Always looking to find space and making runs (which because of our slow, slow, often backwards passing) mostly came to nothing. I’m convinced this guy isn’t another Gayle or Berahino and I believe it won’t be long before we see him hitting the net on a regular basis. Chin up Tom!
