Men’s 100 looks competitive. Decent sub 10 second performances from Hughes and Hinchliffe but others looked to be coasting

Surprisingly all of GB & NI 30 medals have been by white competitors. This will no doubt change as track and field progresses but are we really a classless and equal opportunities society?
I understand that many of our rowers are from Oxbridge and I don’t really expect Equestrianism to be thriving in our inner cities but it doesn’t look or seem right.

musik Khelif has always competed in the women's division and is recognised by the IOC as a female athlete. "The Algerian boxer was born female, was registered female, lived her life as a female, boxed as a female, has a female passport," IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said on Friday. "This is not a transgender case. There has been some confusion that somehow it's a man fighting a woman. This is just not the case. On that there is consensus, scientifically this is not a man fighting a woman." Khelif has spoken about her experience of growing up as a girl in Algeria and the prejudice she faced playing football alongside boys. "Don't let obstacles come in your way, resist any obstacles and overcome them," she said in March 2024. "My dream is to win a gold medal. "If I win, mothers and fathers can see how far their children can go. I particularly want to inspire girls and children who are disadvantaged in Algeria." So why was she banned by the IBA? Because she beat some Russians.

You generally can’t do those sports unless you’ve got money or are that good that you can get sponsorship. Even swimming always seems a bit middle class to me. Having the time and effort to take your kid to the pool at all hours and what for?

Cricket is the same even though you can just play it on the street, most cricketers I believe come from privately educated backgrounds.

Remco obliterated everyone in the men’s RR. He’s a bit of a knob but I’ve grown to like him. Wins the time trial and road race and maybe showed that racing the TdF was better preparation than just using it as training like Van der Poel, etc. A puncture a few km from the finish didn’t even add any suspense although he would have twatted his mechanic if he had screwed up the bike change. Brilliant ride by Madouas, the crowds were huge and a selective enough course.
In the 1500m, George Mills has the positional sense of a pissed otter. He said he ran like an idiot yesterday. He may have got through the repêchage but he’s not making it easy for himself. Rak was running through treacle for 300m and Mills just sat in.

Mixed 4x400m is a weird event as it is a little bit ‘B’ tier but then Bol comes in for the Netherlands and business picks up. The USA thought they had that guaranteed too given the depth of their squad.

Is this idea of announcing/introducing athletes to a round of applause before the event a new thing? I don't remember the Olympics being this way. Not sure I like it, but I'm old and the clouds outside are annoying.

They started doing it at major championships to try and show ‘The personality of the competitors,’ which I think was a direct quote. The BBC really push it, especially in relays.

Enjoying the hockey GB drawing with India 1-1 don’t fancy our chances in a shoot out as the Indian goalkeeper has been outstanding.

Just like the footy to much sideways and backwards passing with very little efforts on goal though I only watched from the 3rd. No commentary as in gym but looked like there was a bit of needle. Didn’t help when Rupert got his green card
