There was a banner during the Portugal vs Czechia game yesterday that just said: 'SPENGE'. I've no idea what it means but I like it. It's back for the Spain Italy game Back again France v Holland

Holland V France: lots of one-word banners tonight rather than flags. A couple of “Vortum”’s, Spexard, Rodelben, Rogatz and the now popular Spenge. Also seen at a number of games a German flag with BT on it - didn’t realise there were fans of British telecommunication companies out there but I suppose it takes all sorts.
Would like to think that Spexard is a German version of Specsavers, but only for football hooligans!

Poor flag count tonight on Belgium v Romania. Seems to be a preference for waving flags on sticks rather than pitchside flags - all seems very Leicester City clapper clapper things to me waving their flags around, but I suppose if you can’t wave your flag then why bother bringing it.

Vainly trying to keep this Euros thread going! Say what you like about the Jocks but they do like a good flag-fest, much like the English fans. Must be a British thing - pride in the flag and all that, but it certainly provides a decent spectacle. Think I prefer the yellow flag with the red lion, rather than the white cross on blue - not sure what the history is behind the yellow flag, must ask Mr Google.

This thread title needs changing to 'SPENGE WATCH'. Spenge….sounds like a disease that was eradicated in the Middle Ages but occasionally still rips through parts of Burslum.

Found on Wikipedia: The town of Spenge: Has a population around 32,000 and this guy with the flag gets around.
A football fan has prominently displayed a banner with the town's name in white block capital letters on a black background, beside the pitch, at numerous major international tournaments in the 2010s and 2020s. At the 2024 European Championships, as of 24 June 2024, the Spenge flag had been seen at 10 of the tournament's total of 28 games[3][4]. The banner has also been displayed at the 2014 World Cup[5], the 2016 European Championships and the 2022 World Cup[6].

I was going to say it's a town in Germany, many a squaddie who was based in Bielefeld or Herford (Herforder Pils, the yellow box) would know it.

I mentioned Spenge to a Celtic fan and now they've got their own mini Spenge watch apparently
Not felt this accomplished since I introduced Tel2U to the 24 hour Nessie cam . The man was hooked
