Don't hold your breath. The club has a history of average to poor strikers. We've only had a player score more than 20 goals in a season on five occasions in 160 years. These players are John Ritchie, John McCue, Mark Stein twice, and Ricardo Fuller in the championship. John McCue is a bit of an overlooked Stoke legend. Fuller scored 15 for us when we got promoted from the Championship, not 20 unfortunately.

I wonder how that compares to other, similar sized, clubs. I’m guessing not too favourably.

Thorne scored about 30 in a season unless third tier doesn’t count Apologies. Yes. 27 league goals. 96/97.

I think Freddie Steele scored 33 in 35 games in 36/37, 26 in 31 in 38/39 and 29 in 38 in 46/47, all in the First Division. His overall record for us, with peak Matthews on the wing, could have been astonishing if Hitler didn't hate Stoke and declare war to stop us winning the league.

John McCue was a Stoke legend BUT he was a full back and I don't think he ever scored 20 goals in a season. Bloody good defender though.
