Hot off the press, a thread ... A genuine conspiracy or just some human linking a bunch of random things?
I think we may have a genuine conspiracy on our hands!

Perhaps sometimes, if the cultures aren't that different, but nothing has happened in Sweden for a generation, while the original Swedes show the weakest birth figures now according to the news for Ages, 1.4 children per family. The reason is said to be the worrying situation in the world, with wars and all - and it's quite understandable, while other groups still think condomes are a sin. It's actually pure logic, not a conspiracy theory. I've heard amazing things about parental leave and stuff in Sweden. In the US they blame money. Not many people can take time off work and childcare costs a lot.

There is a thing called the Fermi Paradox which purports to prove that there isn't any other life in the universe because as there are stars that are billions of years older than our own Sun, then if there is life out there, why hasn't anybody parked up on the White House lawn by now as they would be so much further advanced than us?
But the one element that I think it fails to address, is that just because there are stars out there that are so much older than the Sun, it doesn't then automatically mean that life that develops on those planets, actually survives long enough as a species in order to ultimately be able to create technology that can provide interstellar travel.
The universe is absolutely massive and for all we know, it could be absolutely teaming with life right now. But the fact that we all live so far apart from each other, means that we will never get to know that each other exist. Will 'intelligent' species who become a technological species, ultimately and sadly always end up blowing themselves up via nuclear war, or end up destroying the host planet they live on in other ways, before they ever even get to the point of allowing themselves the opportunity to build a Starship Enterprise?
Problem with these theories, are the notions that because other life hasn’t bothered parking up at the White House then it doesn’t exist, like some kind of weird idea that the earth is the centre of the universe It’s human arrogance personified to think we are some sort of superior species irrespective of what’s out there. In actual fact aliens have seen the state of Burslem and realised the trip isn’t worth it. The universe is incredibly old, I subscribe to the theory that life came before us somewhere and will do the same again long after we blow ourselves into oblivion. Let’s not forget that Mars was once the green and lush planet similar to what we are today, it’s just that it matured too quickly and then went and lost its atmosphere and fucked itself over, there’s a very good chance there was once life as close as on our own doorstep. All that was happening whilst the earth was recovering from another planet having a fight with us and creating our moon. There is life out there, the maths makes sense - it’s just that they are all too far away to give a shit, or, more concerning - they know not to advertise their whereabouts…. Absolutely agree. The fact that we are so far away from any other life sustaining planet is irrelevant. I would imagine in other galaxies and solar systems inter planetary travel has happened, but given our isolation it is very unlikely any alien being ( as we understand) could live long enough to make the journey. I deliberately say unlikely and not impossible. And even if we detected a faint signal , maths says it was generated millions of years ago, which makes replying pretty futile, as it would take millions of years for a reply to be received. Chances are we have been visited, but I would hazard a guess a little closer to home from within this solar system, maybe from an extinct planet that no longer exists.

Chances are we have been visited, but I would hazard a guess a little closer to home from within this solar system, maybe from an extinct planet that no longer exists. I agree it's almost certain that there is life on other planets somewhere in the universe but the distances are so vast there is no way they could have visited without some form of technology that can deal with the restrictions posed by general relativity (it's impossible even in theory to travel faster than light and increasingly difficult to get to the speed of light as mass increases as you get there). During the early stages of the formation of our solar system there were other proto planets that merged and got destroyed (our moon is supposed to be there as a result of one of those collisions) but there was insufficient time for intelligent life to form. It's only after the chaos stopped and the current solar system took shape that there was time and the stability for intelligent life to evolve. There may well be life somewhere in the solar system - some of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn are likely candidates - but it's very unlikely to be anything much more than bacteria.

I've heard amazing things about parental leave and stuff in Sweden. In the US they blame money. Not many people can take time off work and childcare costs a lot. Those amazing things ... do you mean that parents can get 480 days parental leave, with the first 390 being paid 80% of their income? The last 90 days it's just 18 bucks per day. All tax financed. The upbringing the first three years is the most important period in their lives so many people want 365x3=1095 days parental leave. It was the socialist and communist movement here who implemented child care as an institution in the late sixties, before that it was the mother's responsibility to raise the kids (as in my family's case). These days mostly the Christ Democrats want to go back to that and implement a House Work salary as well.

My wife has had to just file for “disability” so that she can take maternity leave. She gets 6 weeks at 60% salary and 6 weeks of no salary (but they can’t sack her). Her situation is in no way the worst in the U.S.

It’s classed as a “benefit”, so her company pays it. I actually get a better benefit of 100% pay for 8 weeks, so I get more time off (different company). Makes sense as I’m doing all the work, of course 😂.

Would it be a pay off or would the job still be secured? I can imagine a lot of job discrimination coming in for women in their 20’s and 30’s at that point. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to have a well-funded nursery program for childcare before school years?

The jobs will be secured, if they don't change the law, which is unlikely and would take years as usual. The employers won't be risking to be accused of job discrimination, since that law is always strictly followed. It's not ideal though, not on a business level anyway. They would have to employ a lot of people but only offer them work for a limited time. Best for our over capacity economy would be to split the working hours in the population to some extent, until the population numbers go down enough again. The ideal situation would be no need for nursery care, and instead follow the proposal from the Christ Democrats. It wouldn't in comparison push a pressure on inflation and hidden inflation to occur.

Were people up there fixing the leak. He was convinced as he'd read it on the internet

I thought you meant the conspiracy theory was that it originated in China. Which leads to a question: Can a conspiracy theory ever be true - or is it no longer a conspiracy theory then? If it's true (fact) then it's not a theory. Unlike "theory" in everyday speech, the word in science is not used as a close synonym of the word "guess". A theory is, on the contrary, the strongest degree of probability that can be reached in science. A scientific theory differs from a scientific hypothesis which is also a proposed and testable explanation, but has not yet been rigorously tested. A scientific theory is actually a way of collecting true facts after the testing is done and present them in a proper way leading to that theory. I think if anything, we should focus on the word "conspiracy" instead. The conspiracy believers haven't any scientific evidence for them "theories", which should be called guesses.

If it's true (fact) then it's not a theory. Yep Nothing to prove that it didn't originated in China at all. The Diana thing also also, absolutely nothing to suggest it was no more than an accident , just a few things some have picked up on and claimed were unusual. Basically, the famous person dies scenario so things weren't quite what they seem story seems to follow it.

It had something to do with a flag, but as far as I remember they used a steel flame. A relative of mine says the Earth can't be round since more people would have died, while going upside down. 👍🤠👍

It had something to do with a flag. Yep the flag is one of the commonly repeated things as it looked like was flapping in the wind as was no wind on the moon Obviously a regular flag go would be a bit pointless as would just be limp in the photos etc so the one used had extended rods to make it stay unfurled and full. They visibly had problems with it at the time. The shadows, stars, lighting etc are other things brought up but are all simply explainable
