I was surprised a few people disagreed with me when I said I hated managers immediately signing ex-players on the Cundle thread. The situation has turned out to be exactly as I expected so far, almost a carbon copy of the Johnson/Neil relationship. If he starts against Blackburn then it's a big concern over Schuey, especially after that rancid team selection last week. Fair play, you called that right and I make you right. If Cundle plays off the back of his non performances so far then it does indeed raise some rather awkward questions. None more so than "You said he knew how you play, so why isn't he playing?"

The thing with Cundle is he was supposed to come in and be able to hit the ground running, he may turn out to be a good player but so far we've looked worse since he came in.
It may just be a coincidence and I'm by no means a fan of Baker, he can slow the game down too much at times and his passing isn't great but he does have that knack of scoring goals.
Something this side lacks completely, there's just no history of goals throughout the squad except for Mmaee whose been banished.

You would fancy your chances every day of the week against Cundle in this league if your putting him predominantly on the back foot.

With all the resources available to Stoke it also shows a complete lack of imagination. I'm reluctant to criticise Ricky, John and Jared, mainly because I don't know the facts around what they actually do and don't do, though I'd like to think a DoF with adequate leadership skills would tell Schuey he was absolutely not signing one of his ex-Plymouth players. Bae's final ball has been average at best all season but he's streets ahead of Cundle in what I've seen so far. Laurent even has the odd game where he looks like a world-beater and I just can't see what Cundle offers at all.

How about trying a 4-1-3-2
Iverson
Junior Wilmot Rose Gooch
Burger
Million Bae Haks/cundle
Campbell Ennis
Might get a better return out of cundle out wide possibly

I didn't say you have, but if we drop him now he'll never get the chance to shine and we should just send him back. Also, I agree Bae is miles better at the moment, but Baker isn't, and neither is Johnson. Those two are his main competitiors in the no.8 role

The last thing Martin should be doing is telling Schumacher who he can and can't have in his squad. Martin isn't a football man - he's there to make sure the club is run properly as a business. The only way he should (and does) have a say on footballing matters is whether we can afford a player or whether the player is a financial liability or not. No way should he have said to Schumacher he can't have him on footballing grounds. The ultimate responsibility for transfers rests with Schumacher - and so it should. He chooses how the team sets up, how it plays and who he needs to make it work. If Martin has the authority you suggest neither Cundle nor Ennis would have been signed. Neither are a financial problem so he did his job and signed them off.

Then if he’s not effective and doesn’t gel with the team, why play him? Because he plays the way the manager want us to? It's the others that need to adapt, it's their job! It’s the manager’s job to get results. There is simply no point in playing ineffective players. You play players to their strengths and currently, Cundle’s strengths aren’t helping the team get goals. In the last two games, our midfield has lost every 50-50. Cundle has contributed to that as much as anyone else.

The problem is getting the rest of the team to catch up with where Cundle is at in terms of understanding the game plan.

This is spot on the issue, under lapping full backs required much flexibility and understanding by a large portion of the team, seemingly alot aren't getting it..yet..

Is dicking around the best thing to be doing at this moment? Or should we simply use a player whose averaging about 1 in 4 for us in the league from midfield already and have Cundle rotate with Bae (who is a much more like for like replacement). Baker has scored two for us already this season. It makes him one of our top scorers 😂. Use him every game between now and the end of the season and he’ll likely score 3-4 more. Is Cundle going to get a 1:4 for Stoke? I haven’t seen anything yet to suggest that he will. That is, apart from running into no man’s land when a pass isn’t on.

At Plymouth, Cundle had the right blend of players around him to exploit his energy, dynamism and ability to make things happen. At Stoke, he is finding his feet more. Yes, Baker probably seems a better option because he is stronger and takes a better shot, but we have already seen that Cundle drives play forward a lot more, and this is what Schuey is trying to build in his side. We just need more pace in the team to allow Cundle's strengths to stand out more, and I hope this is what Million and Ennis will bring. Ironically, the midfield we played in the Leicester drubbing is the one that could fit us best if we get a forward line that can carry the momentum initiated from the midfield three. A full throttle Bae and Cundle as the No 8s orchestrated by Burger could potentially be a match for anyone. Harness that with a (fit) Ennis and Million (carrying over his Holland form), and we are looking a lot better.

It’s football not chess Its nearer to chess than it was in the 1980s. If you think teams can just change direction like that you really don't get where football is these days. There are way more ways of setting up teams to play and it takes longer to get teams to play the way a manager wants to play. You can argue Schumacher should build on what the team have been doing and for the first few games he did. He's clearly decided to go for his way of playing and unsurprisingly it isn't coming off. So what does he do? Grind it out with a style of play he doesn't believe in or stick by his principles? Looks to me like he's going to stick by his principles and we will either shoot up the league or get relegated. And if we get relegated it will be because the rest of the team can't get on Cundle's wavelength because Cundle is the one tuned in to the right channel. But again it isn't Cundle that will take us down it's because Schumacher will have made the wrong call in changing the style of play mid season. Which is hard to do. Behave.

Tomasson off then. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing for us really? I expect it's a good thing, as JDT isn't a bad manager getting sacked but a good manager who has had enough of the Board's lack of support and incompetence. Their players will be pretty demotivated at losing him. This couldn't be a better time to be facing them given our own form.

Of course not but that's the nature of the beast I'm afraid. He needs wins and fast. Hopefully two coming on Saturday and Wednesday.
