Probably paying the wages of our 2 new strikers out of what he was taking from us. doubt it , we would still have to have paid him off We won’t have paid him his full whack otherwise there’s nothing in it for the club. May as well make him wait for it under those circumstances.

I didn't want to mention this at the time out of respecting Dwights privacy but Dwights family home is near to where I live and I've seen him on quite a few occasions since he's been with Stoke. Think it was either late October or early November, I saw Dwight walking out of the local pet shop in the early afternoon & he was walking really uncomfortably. Now it may have been he was suffering from a strain or something as guessing he'd been training in the morning. But genuinely looked at him & thought his legs had gone & he looked like it was hurting him to walk. Noticed he always looked uncomfortable whilst warming up at half-time on the pitch as well. As others have mentioned, think Gayles been professional throughout his time with Stoke & it sounds like he's been good around the club during his time with us.. Seems like father times caught up with Dwight, especially at Championship level. & most of us know how quickly that can occur, as a mate once said to me regarding playing footy, "your head still thinks your body can do it but your body says no-way"! Sure if Dwight's still keen on playing he'll find a club that suits his current ability level but leaving us definitely seems a call that will suit both Stoke & Dwight. Pity it never truely worked out for him here, but lack of effort isn't something Dwight can ever be accused of. His finishing ability & goals output sadly is. What did he buy from the pet shop? I saw him leaving West End Pet Supplies. He wasn’t carrying anything with him, except an empty wallet. Donning the T Shirt of his favourite band, he said he’d just visited the Pet Shop for a look around and to buy something. However, he found that there were too many choices. He heard whispering voices about his future career, so he decided to complete the purchase of the shop itself and the entire stock! The previous owner said: “If? when? why? what? How much have you got? Have you got it, do you get it If so, how often?” Four weeks of his Newcastle United wage contribution was all that was needed! 🙂

With 2 players coming in we probably wanted to get numbers down. Gardening leave, pay him over 6 months don’t name him in the playing squad, tell him not to come to the club facilities. There should be something in it for us to release his registration but you never know with the Coates they’re a strange bunch. IMO it would be a bad precedent to set.

Thanks Bosman (and the EU)! I don’t believe it is Bosman ruling. All that states is that a player can leave at the end of his contract on free transfer and can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club up to 6 months before his contract expires. Says nothing about paying up contracts as far as I can see. Not directly, but the ruling made the football player contracts more like other business contracts. Although I'm not sure why there's no penalty for players breaching contract. It's the transfer fee bit that's unlike business contracts, I've never heard of consultants being "bought out" by other companies before they could sign on.

I actually don't think he's finished as a player. He's just not able to compete as a goal beast.
But he's still good at holding and passing the ball, is cool, calm, and collected. He's difficult to dispossess. He just doesn't have the pace he used to have. The game is certainly not slowing down - at all.
I guess it's just difficult for some, including the former manager and new head coach to re cast him into a new role. An 8½ possibly. I'm confident he can do a decewnt job for a few more years for a lower league club.
Still it makes sense to relieve ourselves of his wages with a reduced pay off, and to use what's left on a million...

Bet he was offside when signing the paperwork He couldn’t find the box for his signature. Someone else, his agent probably, had to hit the target for him.

If true that’s absolutely class from Schumacher. Not only has he bent Plymouths bird over whilst they were at work he’s left his used Johnny on the bedside table and drank one of its beers out of the fridge. What a bloke. Might want to check the league table before we start cawing over what we have done to Plymouth

Good for him for still wanting to play football. He most definitely won’t need anymore money from the game. Perhaps doesn’t want this spell at Stoke to be his last memory of his career.
