Absolutely not he's entitled to every pennyccontractually At best we've had to pay off cast majority of the renainder Well not if he terminated his contract he wouldn’t be entitled to any of it If Gayle did? I guess so but he'd be insane to do that club and player will have agreed a pay off Stoke must have saved some money Gayle must have a club lined up

Presume he's taken a hit on his wages in order to find first team football if so fair play to him Likeable character, good pro Completely finished at this level Why would he do that ? More likely we just want less bodies in the building and are effectively paying him not to come in Or perhaps ‘shock horror’ the multi-millionaire just wants to play and has displayed a level of human decency.

If he has terminated it does that mean we dont have to pay him the rest of his wages for the year? Absolutely not he's entitled to every pennyccontractually At best we've had to pay off cast majority of the renainder People are so naive aren't they? No way has he just walked away and given up £20k a week for the next six months. At very best we might have negotiated him down a bit to allow him to pursue other options.

Is he not therefore now a Newcastle player as they pay two thirds of his salary ?

We were pretty close to the wire on squad places if a mutual arrangement has been agreed Gayle will pick up a club next week and we may have covered Ennis' salary to boot.

Still better for him to go now than be watching from the stands as unless there was a lot of injuries and suspensions he would never make the match day squad. Looks like we are keeping Lowe as backup.

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Good in his day but not for us Remember the same being said about Michael Owen signing for us. To be fair it's a line we could use on quite a few looking back 🙄😬.. Good ole Stoke!

Good luck to him, seemed to always try and didn’t have a problem attitude.
He’s just done.
We’ve probably paid up a fair chunk (but not all) of his remaining contract and he’s free to try and earn another contract somewhere else
Probably best all round

Always looked keen when came on, was unlucky with the odd goal wrongly disallowed but time has caught up with him. Certainly didn't come to sit on his arse Hopefully goes to a lower league club and bags a few for them No need for some of the comments

Never seemed like a dick and came across like a decent likeable pro. Unfortunately he was pretty much useless, especially in front of goal. Thought he started off last season quite well without goals, but then he also the stopped playing well bit and couldn’t even run.

Dwight hasn't just left and foregone the rest of his salary. We'll have paid up the vast majority of what he was owed, probably at least 80%. Would even that 20% cover off Ennis's wages?

Clearly a trier but his legs had gone the same way as Sam Vokes and Bertie Vogts 🙂
50 appearances 3 goals!
It’s quite bizarre that he scored 2 goals at Sunderland in the 5-1 win, yet I’m sure his only other goal (and so only goal at home) was a big deflection v Reading.
I remember him scoring for WBA at Stoke…. so reckon he’s scored more true goals for the opposition at Stoke’s ground than he has for Stoke!

He went from getting into goalscoring opportunities, scoring and having them ruled out, to only doing the former, to not doing any of it.

I didn't want to mention this at the time out of respecting Dwights privacy but Dwights family home is near to where I live and I've seen him on quite a few occasions since he's been with Stoke.
Think it was either late October or early November, I saw Dwight walking out of the local pet shop in the early afternoon & he was walking really uncomfortably. Now it may have been he was suffering from a strain or something as guessing he'd been training in the morning. But genuinely looked at him & thought his legs had gone & he looked like it was hurting him to walk. Noticed he always looked uncomfortable whilst warming up at half-time on the pitch as well.
As others have mentioned, think Gayles been professional throughout his time with Stoke & it sounds like he's been good around the club during his time with us.. Seems like father times caught up with Dwight, especially at Championship level. & most of us know how quickly that can occur, as a mate once said to me regarding playing footy, "your head still thinks your body can do it but your body says no-way"!
Sure if Dwight's still keen on playing he'll find a club that suits his current ability level but leaving us definitely seems a call that will suit both Stoke & Dwight.
Pity it never truely worked out for him here, but lack of effort isn't something Dwight can ever be accused of. His finishing ability & goals output sadly is.

Dwight Gayle was the holy grail of Championship strikers when we came down.
We signed him 5 years too late.
You could tell he had quality and his work rate was excellent but he posed absolutely no goal threat in his time here. Good luck to him wherever he ends up next.
