This is good news. Terrible signing for us.

All the best to him. He always put the effort in wearing a Stoke shirt, just his finishing majorly let him down.
I still think he will end up at one of the championship clubs at the bottom of the table.

Well worth a gamble on a 1 year deal. But giving him 2 years on good money was ridiculous

Very likeable bloke. Massive shame he was finished when we signed him because he used to be prolific.

His years sat on his arse at Newcastle finished him. Sadly didn’t work for us… when he arrived you could see he had some quality but just couldn’t finish or had lost the half yard or so that gave him that space. Such a shame as he clearly was a good bloke. Best thing for all parties though.

Might actually just end it all if he pops up somewhere in this division and does numbers He won’t - best days are behind him. These other clubs are just making the same mistake we did and looking at what he was like years ago.

I wish him well, he tried but was no longer up to the task. Time to retire gracefully. It seemed a panic signing and it didn't work out.

Probably not saved anything in financial terms as we must have paid up the remainder of his contract but saves his dignity a bit when not even making the matchday squad. It’s crazy if this is true. If a club terminates a player or managers contract it cost the club their wages to the end of the contract. On the other hand if a player terminates his own contract the club has to pay his wages for the remainder of his contract. It’s fucking nuts.

Absolutely certainty to end up at Derby Their fans going apeshit because they’d been promised a striker all January and they didn’t manage to sign one whilst all their promotion rivals did

Washed up now probably, but did we ever use him properly? All too often he was completely isolated up front chasing lost causes.

Such a shame as he clearly was a good bloke. Best thing for all parties though. Yea I’ve no ill feeling towards him, he didn’t decide his big wage that was between his agent and the club. He just hasn’t got the legs anymore and we are hardly prolific at getting the ball into the 6 yard box where he thrived (once upon a time!) Right signing in probably the wrong side at definitely the wrong time.

When he had those goals ruled offside in his 1st few games, who knows if they had stood,he could have been on 3 goals in 4/5 games.
But then again,Ifs & Buts.

Best of luck to him. He was always a trier, unlike some.
It's a long time since his best season at West Brom, where he was used in partnership with Rodrigues, whereas he was always used on his own at Stoke, a role for which he does not have the physical presence. Age catches up with all of us.

Come on you purples .. shows you don’t need pyros , flags or ultras dressed all in black to have a good time …just the right result An expensive mistake , and a right move in our drive to force down our squad salaries. Pity it didn’t work out, as always tried and was decent at pressing , but it was obvious almost from the start that he’d arrived too late in his career if we expected goals from him , saves him from further embarrassment and us from the temptation to ‘ give it one more try ‘ and thereby waste a place in the matchday squad / subs bench that should have at least one space utilised for development

Fair play to to him for agreeing to the settlement, I don't know where he goes from here as it's not just a case of him dropping down a couple of divisions his body seems to have stop functioning as a professional footballer..........

If one of those early disallowed goals went in, it could've been different for him and us. Strikers go through bad patches, and he's had a long one of those. Even the greats have them - Shearer went nearly 2 years without scoring for England before being top scorer in Euro 96.

Best of luck to Dwight A new club is the right thing for him Hopefully it will revistalise his career in the way that Wycombe did for Sam Vokes. Sam looked shot here but has scored 28 goals and seems settled at Wycombe since he dropped down a level

I don’t believe it is Bosman ruling. All that states is that a player can leave at the end of his contract on free transfer and can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club up to 6 months before his contract expires. Says nothing about paying up contracts as far as I can see.

He couldn't even finish his chances is here, so not sure what dropping down leagues is going to do for him. Maybe more time and space to score them but I really do think he's finished. Good luck to him though, seems a decent pro.
