In amongst all the new manager excitement, there's a match on Saturday
No idea who he'll go for.
He saw us play there a few weeks ago so may have an idea of strengths and weaknesses and hopefully seen a few videos of our matches.
What was the old chant: -

He'd be a genius if he were able to seperate the quality from the dross that we have in less than three days. I think the team that played against Plymouth a short while ago will be the Stoke team that's in his mind with minor changes if he has seen other players before or if someone in training has shown the precise qualities that he wants to mold his team around. But it's less the names that will be interesting. It's the style of football that he wants to implement, the unnegotiable rules he has. If for instance the backward pass is banned that will make some difference towards a positive change in Stoke's fortunes, but not that alone of course. |

His Plymouth side lost 2-0 at home to Millwall. Probably a good thing that he's seen Millwall forst hand.
Hopefully there's a buzz around the ground. I'm certainly interested to see how we line up.
We really need to be winning this. Birmingham up next, who are playing well, before two very tough fixtures to end the year.

Cant see Vidigal playing after the kicking he got last time out v Millwall and also the officials allocated to this match are dreadful and will offer no protection.

Millwall always stifle or beat us. New manager or not I’m going in with no expectations beyond a scrappy defeat hah. How we behave on the ball will be the main learning at this point, similar to how we shifted under Gallagher vs Neil prior.

Where are we with this?
We have won 0 from the last 8 and Millwall have won 1 from the last 7 since they changed manager.
I make that 1 win in the last 15 between us.
Something has to give...unless it is a draw.

To be honest Ive always thought that as a supporter and dont know why its not more common for managers. I do hate it when a midfielder or a winger cant see a forward pass so they go back to defenders and then inevitably back to the goalkeeper to kick it long. Retaining possession but being 60 yards further back makes no sense whatsover, and allows the opposition to re-group. On top of that a midfielder by nature should be better at finding a pass than a defender/goalkeeper. They should be embarrassed that they delegate their responsibilities. Dont have fear about losing the ball by going forward. Even if you lose it going forwards it puts their defence under pressure to clear the ball. |
