Our home record is poor because we are shit. No other reason. Maybe, but anything to stop a vortex coming into the ground certainly ain't going to make things worse. And it might just bring more fans in. Particularly the more elderly amongst us. All 4 corner flags flapping in different directions last Saturday. Weird.

I'd be happy with 2 corners that beat the first man in a home game. To be fair that is probably more annoying than the ground issue. Boils me piss how often that happens. 5 or 10k a week and they can't take a decent corner. Staggering really...

I don't understand why we don't fill in the 2 open corners at the stadium. Even if it was just a semi permanent design to simply stop the howling wind coming in. In my boredom at the Sheff Wed debacle I did notice at one point that all 4 corner flags were actually all blowing in different directions. I mean that must make playing lengthy passes very challenging. And might explain why our home games are so poor. Are we trying to play football in a mini cyclone when it’s windy? Its at least got to be a leveller for visiting teams and contributing to our terrible home record. A couple of million quid boarding it up somehow would surely be small beer if it were to make playing conditions better. And we might be a bit warmer as well 🥶 I’m sure we’ve had the old wind break discussion before and the club came out with some technical/planning excuse. I really think that they should redevelop the ticket office and club shop and make the building bigger and taller so that it fills the corner in fully. It looks horrendous now on pictures and tv etc. swear last time I saw it there were some stepladders thrown up there alongside some buckets and loose footballs (on the roof in full view of cameras and fans). Amateur as fuck and was a total embarrassment tbh. Surely with the money they have they could update that area now after 26 years of being the very same. Better changing rooms, offices, club shop and ticket office, even a small cafe/bar that they could open on non match days or so many days a week. The club is so behind on various things it’s scary. Some of the car showrooms next door look in better nick and more modern than our HQ. The Icelanders considered a wind break but we're quoted £250k,this was20+ years ago and decided against it

It's like watching an under 8's team playing with a size 5 ball and then letting the runt of the team take the corners and freekicks. It drives me up the wall. Complete waste of an opportunity. Hoever on Tuesday was abysmal. We did at least get a couple in the mixer after we'd fucked him off dead ball duties.

Would be better filling in the corners, even if they didn't put the seating in. It will only get more expensive to do over time. So you just as well put the metal work up now and add the seating when required.
The ladders and other associated items could be stored in the space. Also it would provide an area for potential new managers to view the game from 🙂

Back in our glory (Pulis) years, we used the open windswept ground as a positive, to intimidate visiting teams and fans. We could learn a thing or two from that era.

And as someone posted up above it could be made to look quite aesthetically pleasing.

Aren't they 2 different companies now, Stoke City FC and Stoke City Properties, does spending on one no longer interfere with the other ?

Although to be fair I'm not entirely sure how FFP really works. Would be good to know that money spent on ground improvements doesn't impact on your spending ability.

Anyone else remember this - or am I at last going senile?

Anyone else remember this - or am I at last going senile? If the council were holding back planning permission you'd have to ask for what reason. Its not as if its a listed building or some sort of conservation area. I have a very dim view of Stoke Council. They appear to be a lot more useless than your average useless Council.

Has anyone considered a train station at the ground? A station on every corner, maybe, thus filling in any remaining open corners in the process. A bit like Brentford…. Or was that pubs?

We could have a train to longton and meir in one corner, one to blurton and trentham, one to stoke and castle and one to fenton and hanley.

Was it something to do with advertising? Yes, I think it was the advertising we planned to put on it which upset he council. And, of course, the income from the advertising would have recouped some of the cost of building it so the club abandoned the idea.

rebuild the old Vic, on top of the new housing state, on stilts that look like potbanks. A new oatcake shaped roof. A tram system taking you to the ground from anywhere in the city in less than three minutes. The manager and coaching staff to sit in a tank on matchdays.

At last a sensible solution, but why would the coaching staff sit in a tank ? Do you mean a sort of hot water tank wrapped in a plastic jacket or maybe an Chieftain army tank with a big gun for shooting referees or our players who are playing shit or opposition players who are playing good. However, the stadium on stilts with an oatcake roof is brilliant, we could call it the bacon & cheese stadium.
